“It’s going good. I’m at Subway grabbing a bite to eat.” I paid for my food and walked out.
“That’s good. Did Mr. Shavers come and see you today?” Kevin chuckled. He gets a kick out this.
“You know he did,” I laughed too.
“Watch where the fuck you are going!” I yelled.
“What’s wrong baby?”
“Some man just bumped into me all hard and I dropped my damn soup, ugh,” I said. I really had my lips set up for some damn soup too.
“Did you see what the person looked like?” Kevin asked.
“Nah he had a hood on and didn’t look back when I yelled,” I said walking back to work.
“Probably some young kid with no respect for people.” Kevin tried to enlighten the situation.
“Yeah, well let me eat and I’ll call you when I’m off,” I said kind of dryly.
“Okay baby, and be safe please. Better yet I’ll be there when you get off work to follow you home,” Kevin said.
“Okay, I’ll see you when you get here.” I hung up the phone.
I got back to the breakroom and only had ten minutes to eat. I decided to only eat one half of my sandwich. I ate my sandwich and went back to work. Seeing a few regular happy faces put me in a better mood. The day went by fast and I was the first one to clock out. I walked to the breakroom and grabbed my other half of my sub and was out the door. Kevin was sitting on my car with a dozen of white roses, all the female coworkers were in awe seeing him sitting there in his suit and looking so damn good. I had the biggest smile on my face.
“These are for you,” Kevin said handing me my roses.
“Thank you so much.” I kissed him and he gave me a big hug.
“I know who will be late to work tomorrow,” I heard Karen say, she was a cool older lady. We started laughing as she waved goodbye to us.
“These are so beautiful,” I said smelling them.
“Beautiful just like you, baby. Come one let’s get home.” I unlocked the car, Kevin opened it for me.
He walked over to his car and we both pulled out the driveway. I kept looking in my review mirror. I played some music to keep my mind clear. I was so happy to get home. I grabbed my roses and walked in behind Kevin, he held the door open for me and I placed a kiss on his lips as I walked through the door.
“Girl, you better stop before I have your pretty ass bent over on this couch,” he said while locking the front door.
I looked and smiled at him. I placed my roses in a vase that sat in the middle of the kitchen table. I opened the blinds, so they could have a little light. I walked back in the living room, Kevin was on the phone ordering pizza. I went upstairs to take a shower and slip on a t-shirt. Once I was out the shower, Kevin was at the door paying for the pizza.
“Perfect timing, baby,” Kevin said walking to the kitchen.
I followed him to the kitchen. I grabbed some plates out the cabinet and opened the pizza box. Kevin got my favorite, meat lovers with a side of pineapple. I grabbed two slices and put two slices on Kevin’s plate.
“Thank you. What would you like to drink?” he asked getting up from the table.
“Some wine would be nice,” I said before biting into my food.
He poured us both something to drink, I thanked him and continued eating my pizza. The room was silent, we were both lost in our own thoughts. I finished my food, placed my plate in the sink and poured and other glass of wine.
“You must not want to go to work tomorrow?” Kevin said smiling at me.
I laughed and a little wine came out my mouth. I grabbed my napkin and cleaned my lips.
“Don’t judge me,” I laughed again.
“No judging.” Kevin placed his hands in the air.
We both busted out in laughter. He finished up his food. I took my bottle of wine and cup upstairs with me. Kevin was in tow with his cup of Jack Daniels. I turned on the speakers, paired my phone to it and played Pandora. Silk ‘Freak Me’ was playing. I moved my hips to the music, Kevin walked behind me and matched my moves. You would have thought we were at a club. Bobby V ‘Slow Down’ played next. We really got in the grove then. Kevin had some moves, so I had to keep up. The wine was slowly creeping up on me. I placed my cup and bottle on the dresser and laid in the bed. My ass couldn’t hang with Kevin with this alcohol in my system.
“What’s wrong, you can’t hang old lady,” he said still dancing in the middle of the floor.
I laughed as he was cutting a rug. After he tired himself out, he took a shower and laid in the bed. Pandora was still playing, R. Kelly ‘Half on a Baby’ played. Kevin ran his hands up my legs. Once he got to my thighs, he gripped them. He planted kisses all over my neck. I moaned, he moved his hands up my backside. I parted my legs and Kevin placed his fingers inside of me. After playing with my pussy, he went under the covers and tasted my sweet fluids.
“Ohh Kevin, yes baby, yes,” I moaned out in pleasure as I dug my nails into the sheets and arched my back.
Kevin kept my juices flowing. He reached his hands under my shirt and played with my already hard nipples; my eyes rolled in the back of my head. After sucking the life out of me, he was now making love to my pussy, slowly working his dick in and out of my wetness.
“Damn Joy, you feel so damn good, baby, “Kevin moaned in my ear.
“You feel good too baby,” I said as I had another orgasm.
Kevin now had my legs pushed back. I watched as his dick was covered with a shine slide in and out, hitting my G spot.
“I’m about to cum baby. Oh shit, Joy,” Kevin moaned while grabbing my nipples.
“I want to cum with you daddy,” I moaned out in pleasure as well.
“Damn,” we both said.
I couldn’t move, my legs felt like noodle’s. Kevin had that dick that will leave you stuck on stupid. He got up and got us both a warm towel, he cleaned me up first and then himself. He climbed back in the bed and held me, Usher ‘Nice and Slow’ played as we both drifted off to sleep.
Two Weeks Later…
Vivian’s funeral came and I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to my friend. Jessie was downstairs waiting on me with Kevin and Dre. I was in the bathroom looking down at my pregnancy test. I couldn’t believe my eyes, I took a total of four test and they all said the same Pregnant.
“Joy baby, are you okay?” Kevin asked while tapping on the door.
“Yeah, here I come.” I walked out and closed the door behind me.
I walked downstairs, grabbed my purse and we got in Kevin’s truck. The church was filled with cars. We found parking and got out. When we walked in, music was playing and pictures of Vivian were playing on the projector. I looked for Vivian’s mom and finally spotted her. She was being greeted by a few older ladies she knew. When they were done talking, I greeted her with a big hug.
“I’m so happy you could make it,” Lucy said to me.
“I told you I would be here, this is my cousin Jessie, her boyfriend Dre, and you remember Kevin,” I said to her.
“Thank you, guys, for coming,” Lucy said while cleaning her face.
“I saved a seat for you over there,” she said pointing in the front row.
“Okay, we will be over there,” I said as we walked over to the front row.
“We will be starting now. Can everyone please take a seat?” one of the ushers spoke into the microphone.
Everyone sat down and the choir started singing. The room was filled with elders. I saw a few folks we went to high school with. Vivian didn’t have too many friends due her fucked up attitude; she brought that on herself though. I tried to hold back my tears, but I couldn’t. This could have been me. This could have been my mama sitting here about to put me six feet in a grave. I rubbed Lucy’s back as she sobbed uncontrollably. Kevin rubbed my leg that shook. The Pastor read a few scriptures from the Bible.
“Amen,” an older lady yelled out.
The Pastor continued with the scripture. An older lady got up an
d read a poem;
Away I cannot say, and I will not say
That she is dead, she is just away.
With a cheery smile and a wave of hand
She has wandered into an unknown land;
And left us dreaming how very fair
Its needs must be, since she lingers there.
And you-oh-you, who the wildest yearn
From the old-time step and the glad return
Think of her faring on, as dear
In the love of there, as the love of here
Think of her still the same way, I say;
She is not dead, she is just away.
The room was silent as if everyone felt every word this lady spoke.
A younger woman got up to the microphone and sang.
“Gotta hold on easy as I let you go
Gonna tell you how much I love you
Though you think you already know
I remember I thought you looked like an angel wrapped in pink, so soft and warm
You’ve had me wrapped around your finger since the day you were born
Your beautiful, baby, from the outside in
Chase your dreams but always know the road that’ll lead you home again
Go on, take on this whole world
But, to me, you know you’ll always be my little girl
When you were in trouble, that crooked little smile could melt my heart of stone
Now look at you, I’ve turned around, and you’ve almost grown
Sometimes you’re asleep I whisper, “I Love You!” in the moonlight at your door
As I walk away, I hear you say, “Mama, love you more!”
“Wow that girl can sing,” Lucy said as she stood and clapped for the young lady.
Everyone stood up as well, there wasn’t a dry in the room. Lucy got up and went to the microphone.
“Good morning everyone, I want to say thank you all for being here for me and my family in this time of need. Just a few months ago I had a small funeral service for my grandbaby, and now I’m having one for my daughter. I told myself every day to be strong, but it’s getting hard. I never thought of burying my own child, this is so hard. My baby didn’t deserve this. If I had one more minute with her I would hold her and tell her how much I love and appreciate her. Tell the person next to you that they are worthy, that you love them. Tell them that you are needed here and that you will always have a friend in me.” Everyone repeated what she said.
We all clapped as she walked back to her seat. Before she sat down I gave her a hug.
“We will now have the viewing of the body.” I closed my eyes as the ushers opened the casket. Flashbacks of how Vivian looked when we went to the precinct and saw that picture of her body played back in my head.
We stood up and walked over to over view her body. They did an alright job on her face. Why her mother wanted an open casket was beyond me. The way Vivian was beat, I would have had a closed casket and cremated her body, but this was her decision. I touched her cold body and cried. I cried hard as fuck.
“Vivian I’m sorry. Please come back, I forgive you. Please don’t leave me, I love you!” I screamed out.
I broke down. I tried to control my breathing, but it wasn’t working. I wanted my friend back, I wanted to talk on the phone with her just one last time. I wanted to have just one more lunch date with her. Kevin helped me up off the floor he placed my arm around his neck. We walked back over to our seats and he hugged me as I sobbed in his arms.
“It’s okay, baby. I know this is hard and I’m here with you all the way.” Kevin rocked me back and forth.
“Thank you so much, baby.” Jessie came and rubbed my back.
After I was done crying, Jessie hugged me while Kevin and Dre held a small conversation. Everyone was done viewing the body. They closed the casket and the pallbearers carried the casket. We followed as they placed the casket in the hearse. Once everyone was in their cars we went to the burial site and watched as Vivian’s body was lowered the ground. An usher gave her mother, aunt, cousins and I a purple rose. We threw our purple roses on top of the casket, before they placed the dirt on top of the pretty purple and gold casket. People were heading their separate ways, while some were going to the repast. I just wanted to go home and get back in my bed. Kevin, Dre, Jessie and I all gave Lucy a hug and we got back in the truck to head home.
“Are you ladies hungry?” Kevin asked while pulling out the parking spot.
“I could go for some pancakes,” I said looking to see if anyone agreed with me.
“That’s fine with me.” Jessie said. The men were fine with it as well.
Off to the IHOP we went. Finding a spot in the front, we all got out, went inside, and waited to be seated. I sat in a daze not sure how to tell Kevin that we are about to have a baby. We never got to that part in our relationship where we talked about kids. I hope he will be okay with me keeping it, we will see. We ordered our drinks and waited for our food. Stevie Wonder played through the speakers and I sang along to the words in my head. Kevin wrapped his arm around me and kissed me on the cheek. I smiled at him as he smiled back at me. Our food came, and everyone ate in silence. I cleaned my plate, I was full now. I laid back and waited for everyone else to finish.
“Dang baby, you must have been hungry?” Kevin said giving me a slight nudge.
“Yeah, I was a little hungry, I’m good now,” I said while eating a piece of ice from my cup.
Once we were done, we got in the car and headed home. Dre and Jessie were going to stay at his place for the night. Jessie was moving into her new place in the morning. She already had movers scheduled to move her stuff. Her and Dre have been spending a lot of time together. When we got home I went upstairs to change into a gown. I walked back downstairs to chat with Jessie.
“So, tomorrow’s the big day huh?” I said taking a seat next to her at the bar.
“Yeah, I’m excited. Let me show you the pictures.” Jessie pulled out her cell and went to her photos.
She placed the phone on the counter and flipped through the pictures. It was a real cute condo, three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It was perfect for her. I handed her back her cell.
“It’s cute Jessie. I know you about to go hard on the design,” I laughed.
“You know that’s my specialty girl. I need to be on one of those Flip This House shows they be having on television.” She was right, Jessie could decorate a cave and make that shit look like a whole suite.
“You should go and bid on some homes and give it a try. That would be a cool little project for you to do,” I said being supportive of her idea.
“I’ve never thought about doing that. I may look in to that.”
“What y’all two talking about?” Dre said coming in from the backyard with Kevin in tow.
“I was just telling Jessie how she should go and bid on a few houses out here and fix them up,” I said.
“Yeah, she’s good with that decorating,” Dre said as he wrapped his arms around Jessie.
“I’ll look in to it tomorrow.”
I yawned, them pancakes about to put me on my back. I was getting sleepy.
“I’m sorry you guys, but I need a nap. Jessie text me when you make it back to Dre’s place. I said giving them both a hug.
“Yeah, we about to get out of here ourselves. We got a lot of work to do in the morning,” Dre said giving dap to Kevin.
“I’ll walk y’all to the door,” Kevin said as he walked behind them.
I walked upstairs as Kevin locked up. I turned on the television and laid in the bed. I tried to stay woke and wait for Kevin, but that didn’t work, sleep took over my body. I felt Kevin come and lay behind me.
“So, I’m going to be a daddy?” he said in my ear.
I smiled and kept my eyes closed. Kevin rubbed my stomach. I wasn’t that far along, but it felt good to know that he was happy to be a dad. I made a mental note to make a doctor’s appointment. I slept until about nine p.m. I got out the bed and
emptied my bladder. I walked downstairs to the living room to talk with Kevin. He was in the garage washing clothes, so I waited until he came back in. I sat Indian style on the floor.
“What’s up baby, why are you sitting on the floor?” Kevin asked bringing in a basket of clothes.
“I just wanted you to know that I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about me being pregnant,” I said while taking a pair of my pants out the basket and folded them.
“It’s okay baby, I’m excited to be a dad. I want to be a better father than what my dad was. I want to give my son the world,” he said folding up his shirt.
“What makes you think it’s a boy, what if it’s a girl?” I said smiling.
“If it’s a boy or a girl, they will have the world and two amazing parents that will love him or her,” he said kissing me on the lips.
“That’s true,” I smiled at him.
“Are you still hungry and when are you making a prenatal visit?” he asked.
“I’ll have a bowl of cereal please and I’m calling in the morning.”
He got up off the couch and made me a bowl of Raisin Bran cereal with strawberries. I folded up the rest of our clothes. Kevin placed the bowl of cereal on the end table and helped me up. I grabbed the bowl of cereal and enjoyed every bite. Kevin went to take the clothes upstairs. When he came back, I had the empty bowl in one hand and my chin placed in my chest. It takes nothing for me to fall asleep. Kevin took the bowl from my hand and placed it in the sink.
“Come on baby, wake up. Let’s go get in the bed.” Kevin held my hand and walked upstairs with me.
He pulled back the covers and I got in the bed, Kevin rubbed my legs.
“I’m going to finish the rest of the clothes and I’ll be back to get in bed,” he said.
“Okay baby,” I kissed him on the lips and closed my eyes.
Chapter 16
Five Months Later…
I couldn’t be more excited, today we find out the sex of the baby. I feel and look as big as a house, but Kevin thought I was cute. We waited for Jessie and Dre to show up, my mom couldn’t make it because she was out of town with her new boyfriend. Mama gotta have a life too right; she was in the Bahamas. We will record the announcement and send it to her. I got up and went to grab a water bottle. Before I went to sit back down, there was a knock on the door. Jessie was standing there with balloon’s and a big smile on her face.
