Distant Light - Reverse Harem Romance Page 19

“Weren’t you planning on going to the sex club tonight?” Aurelia asked. I knew no matter how I answered, she’d be upset. At 186 years old, Mother was very old-fashioned.

“Yes, it’s one of the few nights that Burgundy doesn’t have to work there,” I said, trying to keep my voice even and calm.

“What if you save the club for another night and take Chrys dancing? I know you all like to go do that hippie dancing.”

“It’s not hippie dancing, Mom.” I knew my tone sounded as exasperated as I felt.

“Whatever it is, Sadie, it’s better than the sadist vampire club.”

  Author Musings

In those deep, dark moments when I feel like all is lost I will remember this book.

While I was writing Distant Light I was besieged by a fierce ogre, a real life monster in the form of a human who stomped and roared above me - day and night, mostly night - all night - every night - for over four months without ceasing.

There was no escaping this beast. It screamed and raged, spit fire from its raw cavernous maw and sharpened its claws on my ravaged flesh. It’s rage and insanity threatened my own.

And still, I persevered. Iphi was born from this hell that was my life. My entire first series, Love on the Edge was released during this time as well. From May through August 2017 the savage monster reigned supreme.

Little Iphigenia shone her radiant light upon the creature of the dark in the form of my own phone’s video camera. Police were called and finally on the brightest day of the summer, the blackened beast was carried away screaming and biting in a figurative straightjacket - never to return again.

Reading Iphi reminds me of the light that shines both on and within us all. Internally and externally. Iphigenia’s radiance is what enabled me to claw my own way out of the dark pit that monster left me in, among rotting corpses and decaying souls.

It is my wish, my hope that Iphi’s courage, her strength and her light will be a beacon for us all.
