“I’m sorry,” he murmured, running his hands through her hair and kissing her face. “I’ve been an asshole. I never meant to hurt you. I love you.”

She hiccupped. “I love you too. I always have, and I’ll never stop.”

“When you wouldn’t call me back or open your door, I thought I’d lost you.” He pulled back and cupped her cheeks, making her look at him. “You’ve asked me why I retired while in the prime of my career, and it’s because tennis never gave me the one thing I desired more than anything. Love. You gave me that, sweetheart. I want to marry you.”

  “Oh, Grayson.” She kissed him.

A crowd gathered across the street and clapped. She broke the kiss and buried her head in the crook of his neck, laughing. Somewhere in the distance, a dog barked and she was vaguely aware of people cheering.

“Please say that’s a yes,” he groaned.

She lifted her head. “Of course it’s a yes. Yes! Yes! Yes!”

He swept her off her feet and twirled her around, holding her to his chest. She laughed and cried happy tears.

“There’s something I have to show you.” He set her back on the ground, and took her hand.

She gazed up at him, smiling. “I keep thinking I’m dreaming. You’ve made me so happy.”

He leaned over and gave her a kiss. “I love you.”

A dog yapped, and she turned her head. Ahead of her, tied to a street sign, Blue jumped, trying to break free and run to her. “It’s Blue! What’s he doing here?”

“I asked John to let me have him. He needs a home, and I have the perfect backyard.” He undid the knot and handed the leash to Shauna.

“Thank you.” She kneeled down and petted Blue. “How about that, Blue? A family, a new home, and lots of love all in one day.”

“There’s one more surprise.” Grayson smiled and pointed up in the air.

She tilted her head, read the street sign, and burst out laughing. “You’re crazy.”

“I’m crazy for you.” Grayson wrapped his arm around her. “You forgot that you promised to name another street after me if I helped you with the benefit. Seeing as how I already had one I thought you should have one yourself.”

“That’s crazy, Grayson.” She smiled. “And I love it.”

He scooped her up in his arms and whispered, “Our home is here in Cottage Grove, where Grayson Schyler Street meets Shauna Marino Avenue.”
