“Haven,’ she brushed his face, “Please wake up.” He didn’t flinch or respond to her touch. “God Haven, the way I acted towards you was terrible. I shouldn’t have yelled at you. I knew Rob wasn’t my destined mate. We both knew – we were friends, we loved each other, and when he died, I became lost. I didn’t think I would ever love again,” she cried into the bed.
“And then you happened. I knew from the moment I met you; you were mine, it caught me off guard. You were there to help Dylan, and I couldn’t let my feelings hinder that. Then you told me what you felt. I was so wrong…I, I reacted so shamelessly... And now…please, Haven, wake up,” she was so lost in her tears she didn’t hear Roxy enter.
“Has he responded at all?” Roxy startled her as she moved around Tessa to the foot of the bed. Tessa glanced up through her tear-filled eyes, stained red from emotions she’d expelled over the last several weeks. “No, nothing. He doesn’t react to my touch or my voice. Is that normal Roxy?”
Roxy tapped the bedframe with her well-manicured fingernails as she stared at Havens frozen expression. “I don’t know anymore. Tessa, I know he expelled a lot of magic,” her eyes cut to Tessa, “but he should have woken up by now. I’m going to speak with some of my old coven members; perhaps they can shed light on the darkness that seems to be besting us.”
“Take it back,” Tessa stood, knocking back the chair, “take everything he gave me back. I don’t want to live in a life without him Roxy. I can’t. When Rob died, I felt I’d wither away from a broken heart – loving no one again. I can’t….no I won’t do that again.” Her shouts carried through the room.
“What’s happening in here….” Dylan burst through the door, looking around the room for whatever hidden danger had caused Tessa to shout, “Tessa… Roxy… is something wrong with Haven?” Dylan moved to stand beside Tessa, inspecting Haven’s still prone form. Jensen wrapped his arms around her, “Dylan, look around, Tessa’s just upset.” Placing a kiss on her shoulder, Dylan relaxed. “Jeezus Tessa you scared the shit out of me, I thought... I thought... Never mind, it doesn’t matter. Roxy, why isn’t he awake yet. You told us he would wake in a few days, well it’s been weeks,” looking to her cousin for an explanation.
“I’m not sure Dylan, believe me, I wish I knew. I told Tessa I plan to speak with some of the others in our old coven. Maybe they can help him.” She touched his foot, tears rolling down her cheeks, “he’s my dad... I want him awake just as bad,” her eyes found Tessa’s, “I promise you, Tessa, I will figure this out.” Roxy left the room with a sense of urgency.
“Tessa, please come downstairs,” taking her hand in mine, “Haven will need you strong when he wakes up.” Pulling from my grasp, “No Dylan, I can’t leave him. I won’t. I’ve only just found him, and if I can’t give him back his magic, the least I can do is stay with him. Go, I’ll be fine – I’ll eat later.”
I knew there was no point in arguing with her, so I nodded in response. I intertwined my fingers through Jensen’s as we walked into the hallway, leaving her alone to dwell in her personal darkness.
Closing the door, Tessa turned to Haven. “I’ll stay with you Haven – always. You may not know it yet, but you have my heart… it belongs to you. When you come back to me... I’ll be here – waiting.”
Tessa stripped down to her underwear and slipped into bed next to him. She wanted to feel his skin touching hers, his body heat shrouding her in warmth. Maybe, just maybe, being close to him… him feeling her heart beat, would be enough to pull him from the darkness that had him bound prisoner.
She closed her eyes, praying she could at least see him in her dreams once more. Her dreams were all she had of him, now that he was stuck in this wretched torment.
