Hot poker jammed against raw skin, I cried out. Light glowed a horror-movie green from my fist. Searing pain cut in lines across my thigh. Heavy black hash marks swiped across my skin, engrained bone deep.
A weight, heavy and suspiciously unending, fell on my shoulders. My gut rumbled as something inside me stirred. The monster? Trapped inside me? The idea bubbled nausea in my stomach.
I plucked the black stone and folded papers from the ground and pulled open the square. The first few lines confirmed a lifetime of hushed secrets. My heart sank as I read them aloud.
“I can’t tell you what I really am without telling you how it came to be. Most stories start just before the action begins, when the juicy bits are ripe. I think mine is better told from the beginning. Or close enough to it.”
My name is Georgia Lynn Mallock, but most people call me Lynnie. Papa named me after a warrior.
Like my auntie before me, I am death. Vengeance. Justice. I am Cu Sidhe.
Today was my becoming and this is where the action begins.
