“We still haven’t gotten a full night's sleep every night, but you’re right. It’s awesome how they’ve all chipped in to help. Cooper seems to have stolen everyone’s heart.” She rubbed her hand up his back and over his shoulder. She admired the lights around the tent. The band had switched to a slow song that Jessie didn’t recognize. Other’s had joined them on the dance floor. Tamslyn smiled at her while she swayed in Scott’s arms. They both moved into her house in Wisconsin. She liked having her mom close by. She was only an hour’s drive. When she went into labor, Jessie was pretty sure she made it to the hospital in less.
“You ready for an epic honeymoon?” Erik whispered against her neck. His lips met the crook of her neck and she sighed.
“We can’t leave Cooper for that long,” Jessie looked back at Erik wide eyed.
“I know you said that, but I’ve convinced your mom and Scott to stay at the house. He’ll have Sloane, Mike, Ely, and your mom here to take care of him. We won’t be too far away. I promised, we would be a short drive away. We need to have some time together, just us two.” His fingertips traced a line up my spine.
“I thought we decided to take a honeymoon later. I thought we were staying home after the wedding,” Jessie sighed, knowing Erik was going to win.
“Jess, we need to celebrate our wedding. How lame is it if we just go upstairs after our wedding. Don’t worry, everything will be fine. You can even call and check on Cooper when we get there. Although, he’ll probably be out cold before we even leave.” His fingers kept running up and down her spine. He was right, they should be able to celebrate their marriage.
“Okay, you promise it’s not too far?” her voice rose in question.
“I promise, Jess. I also believe we should be going soon. Go give your baby boy a kiss. Sloane has your bags all packed and in the car.” He gave her a quick peck on the lips before leading her over to Cooper. She lifted him in her arms. He giggled and she kissed his pudgy cheeks.
“I’m going to miss you, baby boy,” she cooed. She gave him kisses on both cheeks and his forehead before turning toward Erik. He brushed a piece of hair from Cooper’s forehead and bent to kiss it. He kissed Jessie’s cheek before clutching them close.
“I love you,” he whispered so only they could hear.
“Come on love birds, you have a honeymoon to get to,” Sloane held her hands out for Cooper. Jessie gave him one last kiss before handing him over to Sloane. Her heart ached as she handed her son off to someone else. She kept repeating that it was only for a few days.
Erik wrapped his arms around her. “We won’t be gone long and Sloane assured me we can check in at any time, Tammy, too,” he chuckled. “She expects you’ll call to check before we even get to the hotel.” He rubbed her back. He took her hand and they bolted around the house to the sleek black car. Everyone waved as they left. Rice was thrown above their heads as they walked through the white garland canopy. Erik must have planned for everyone to line up in the back before they left for the car. Jessie looked at the faces of those she loved. Their life was so full of love, despite the betrayal of Bryant. They’d all moved on. Demons were still possessing people, but it was manageable. Nothing like the fights they dealt with while Bryant was helping them. It seemed that with his death, the demons were no longer organized. Jessie shook her head and thought back to their conversation and her son.
“She’s probably right.” Jessie shrugged.
Erik tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. “Come on Jess, we have a honeymoon to get to.” He stopped next to the car, her back against the cold door. He leaned into her, his body warming hers through the thin fabric. His lips brushed softly against her lips. His warm breath mingled with hers. She moaned against his mouth as his fingers found her nipple through the thin fabric. “Have I told you yet how beautiful you are in this dress.” His fingers continued to toy with her nipple through the fabric. “I really like it.” He licked his lips slowly as he gave her a salacious look.
Her hands roamed over his shoulders pulling him in for a kiss. She couldn’t wait to taste him. “Mmm, here’s to our happily ever after.”
