"Just get in the car," she said calmly. "Making a scene is not going to do anyone any good."
I nodded and she climbed into the car after I opened the door. I shut if and walked around the car to the driver's side. As I reached for the door, I saw Jade approach the car and I opened the door anyway.
You're not going to give in to her, I kept repeating to myself, but as soon as I felt Jade's hostile presence close in on me, I knew I was too far gone to ignore her.
Malia
Oh, god.
I watched as Dillon's ex-wife approached the car after I climbed into the front passenger seat and I glanced at Willow.
"They're going to fight again," she sighed as she fastened her seatbelt.
"You think?" I asked with a cringe.
Willow nodded and said, "They always fight when they're in the same place. My mother is very outspoken and thinks Daddy is a piece of-"
"Okay, I get it," I said before she could finish. I knew what she was going to say, I just didn't want her to. "I think it's better if you just stay in the car, okay?"
"You should probably stay in the car too," Willow advised me.
"It's going to get ugly, isn't it?" I asked and Willow nodded.
She took out her headphones, plugged them into her tablet and turned up the volume so high that I could hear her music playing from where I sat. I felt my heart break for her, as she didn't want to involve herself in their fights, although she was right in the middle of it no matter how much she tried to distance herself.
I opened the door and climbed out. I didn't want Dillon to deal with her alone. He wasn't alone anymore and I'd stand beside him no matter what, or who came in the way.
"I didn't think you'd stoop so low, Dillon," I heard Jade said and I walked around the front of the car, but not all the way. Jade noticed me and waved her hand at me, fobbing me off. "Get back in the car, little girl. This does not concern you."
"Actually it does concern me," I said calmly and stepped up to her.
"Just because you're fucking my husband-"
"Ex-husband," Dillon interjected, but she ignored him completely.
"-doesn't mean that you're suddenly the queen of the castle," Jade said to me and placed her hands on her hips.
I felt completely intimidated by this woman. She was not only incredibly beautiful, looked good for her age, she was well spoken and didn't look like the kind of woman Dillon had described to me. Maybe she was doing well for herself, since she wore designer jeans and shoes, and she just looked polished, sophisticated and wealthy – exactly the kind of woman who was the wife of a billionaire.
"I never said I was," I said, composing my thoughts. "All that I was trying to say is that whatever affects Dillon, affects me, and Willow."
"That's sweet," she said flatly. "Are you enjoying playing house?"
"Jade, for heaven's sake. Can you just drop it?"
"No, Dillon," Jade hissed and glared at him. "For years I have been trying to see my daughter and you wouldn't let me. What kind of a monster does that to a woman? Denying her the right to see her child?"
"You gave up the right to see her when you fucked my best friend," Dillon said and crossed his arms.
"Well, if you fucked me properly, or had a bigger dick than he did-"
"Nothing was ever good enough for you, was it?" Dillon suddenly exploded. "I worked so fucking hard to give you everything you ever wanted and you threw it back in my face, for a cheap lay."
"Looks like you did the same."
"Fuck you, I am not cheap," I exclaimed, not even sure why I was putting myself in the middle of this.
"Not from where I'm standing, little girl. He'll soon get bored with you and find himself another one, younger with bigger tits and tighter-"
"That is enough," Dillon said firmly. "Willow is in the car. There's no need for that."
Jade scoffed and I took a step back. I was tired of this bitch telling me that I was a cheap slut who didn't mean a thing to Dillon. I was sick of being belittled by a woman who thought she knew it all, but had nothing to show for it. Most of all, I was sick of being such a placid little girl and not standing up for my boyfriend.
But then again, I didn't want to stoop down to her level. I was better than that. So was Dillon. I placed my hand on his shoulder and said, "Let's go."
"You will be hearing from my lawyer, Dillon. YOu're setting a bad example for our daughter with this cheap little slut and I will not allow it."
"You were the cheap little slut, not me. You're the one who broke your promise to both of them," I said and pointed to her, "and you're the one setting a bad example by making such a scene because you don't get the attention you want anywhere else."
Jade stepped up to me, her dark brown eyes painfully impaling my soul and I let out a breath.
"You're nothing to him. He's going to get bored of you very easily and very quickly. He'll find someone younger and even more naive to set his claws in. That's what he did with me. He replaced me with someone younger, and then replaced her with you. It's a vicious cycle, and he can't stop. He never will."
I frowned at her words, not sure whether she was telling the truth or not.
"You don't believe me, do you?"
"Why the hell should I?" I asked.
"That's true," she shrugged and cocked her head. "You have a pretty warped image of me thanks to Dillon, but do yourself a favor. Ask him about Terry."
"Jade," Dillon warned.
"Just do it, and you'll see what I mean."
"Jade, stop it, please."
Jade stepped away with a smirk and nodded. "You'll see, little girl," she said bitterly and turned to him. "Tommy will call you, so be ready. You both are going to regret this."
I narrowed my eyes as she turned on her heel and made her way across the parking lot. She climbed into a silver Lexus and drove off as if the devil himself was on her tail. Maybe he was.
I turned to Dillon and placed my hands on my hips. "Oh my god."
"She brings out the absolute worst in everyone she encounters, so don't worry about it," Dillon said and approached me. "I'm so sorry."
"It's fine, I guess," I muttered as he put his arms around me. "I'm just glad I didn't cry."
He chuckled and glanced at me. "I'm really sorry. She thinks she can do whatever the hell she wants and get away with it unscathed. She doesn't care who she hurts, especially if that person is me."
I nodded and said, "Can we please go home now. I've had quite enough of today."
"I couldn't agree more," he said. "And don't worry about her threats. They are rarely something to worry about."
I nodded again and we climbed in the car. As we closed the doors, Willow took her headphones off and asked, "So how badly are we all screwed, Daddy?"
"Willow, language," Dillon muttered, "but to answer our question, we're not. Whatever she is going to throw at us, we can ward it off, like always."
I smiled at Willow encouragingly, but as I turned to the front and Dillon drove us home, I couldn't help but feel a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach. Who was Terry, and why was Jade so adamant for me to ask Dillon about her? Worst of all, why did Dillon warn her to keep her mouth shut?
What was Dillon hiding?
Was I being paranoid after my encounter with the ex from hell? Or was there truth in her words after all? There was only one way to find out, and I wasn't sure whether I wanted to know.
Hopefully I didn't need to ask, but the chances of Dillon looking like he was wanting to talk about what happened was slim to none judging by the expression on his face.
When we arrived back at the house, the three of us quietly went into the house. Willow excused herself and went to her room. I didn't want to force her to talk about what had happened, as I didn't feel that would do anyone any good, but I also felt a little obligated to check whether she was okay.
"I'm going to check on Willow," I said and Dillon simply nodded.
I glanced at him for a second and frowne
d. There was definitely a sign of guilt on his face and I bit my bottom lip. Although I desperately wanted to confront him about Terry, whoever that was, I wasn't sure it if was a good idea.
I was also very close to tears, thinking back on the whole thing with Jade, but I took a breath and walked up the stairs to Willow's room. I knocked on the door and after a few seconds, I heard her say, "Come in."
I quietly opened the door and found her in her pink and green princess canopy tent, laying on the floor, with only her feet sticking out from under the canopy. I crouched down onto the floor and shuffled my way under the canopy. I rolled onto my back and lay beside her. She stared at the glow in the dark stars overhead but she didn't say a word to me.
"Are you okay?" I asked in a hushed tone.
"I've been better," she sighed.
"Yeah, me too. Your mom is a real piece of work," I answered.
"I don't remember a time where Daddy and her didn't fight or argue. They weren't very happy together. Getting a divorce was a good thing," Willow said, "for all of us."
"I couldn't agree with you more, Will."
"I just wish they could be more civil to each other. They were embarrassing in the parking lot. People were staring."
"Yeah, it was a bit of a spectacle, wasn't it?" I sighed. "I'm sorry I got involved in it too. Your mom has a way to get under a person's skin."
"What does that mean exactly?" she asked me.
I rolled onto my side and glanced at her. "Well, it means that she knows exactly what to say to made someone get angry and fired up, saying things they shouldn't, or start yelling and being nasty. She likes to provoke people, get a reaction out of them."
"Oh, yes. That's exactly right. She used to do it all the time."
I smiled sadly and sighed. "I'm really sorry about all this, Will. Is there anything I can do to make this better for you?"
"No, you're doing fine, really. You stood up for Daddy, which is great because no-one has ever done it for him before. It's always been just him against my mom, and even though he always tries to do what's best for me, he should do what is best for him too sometimes," she whispered.
"You're an amazing little girl, Willow. Please don't ever forget that," I said to her.
A smile formed on her lips and she nodded. "I love you, Malia."
"I love you too, Will."
She sat up and put her arms around me, hugging me tight. "Is Daddy okay?"
"I don't know. He seems a little ruffled up."
"Maybe you should go talk to him. You know just what to say to make people feel better," Willow said.
I smiled at her as my heart swelled in my chest and I touched her chin. "I'll do that. Are you going to be okay?"
"Yes, I am fine. I bounce back easily. Plus I know you and Daddy will never let anything happen to me."
"That's right. Only good things will happen, and we will always make sure that you're happy," I said, a tear running down my cheek.
"Why are you crying, Malia?"
"I'm just a little emotional with everything that happened today. I'm fine."
"Okay. Now wipe your tears and go talk to Daddy, before he starts crying too."
I nodded and gave her another hug before I crawled out from the canopy and left her room. I wiped my face in the bathroom before going back downstairs. Dillon still paced the living room but immediately stopped when he heard me walk into the room.
"How is she doing?" he asked and slowly, and carefully approached me.
"She's fine. She's not upset or crying or anything like that," I answered.
"What about you?" he asked.
"I have no idea. I guess I am still processing the whole thing. I mean, I've had my fair share of catfights before but nothing like that. Jade was just..." My voice trailed as I tried to think of a more diplomatic way to say that his ex-wife was a trolling bitch. "...so provoking and nasty. She still has a lot of hate for you, and you still have a lot for her."
"She brings out the absolute worst in me, that's for sure," he muttered. "She always has."
"How could you marry a person like that?" I asked.
"I was young and stupid. It wasn't even a case of love being blind because I knew exactly what she was before I married her. I was kind of hoping that she would change, but it just got worse."
"You can't really expect someone like that to hang for the better. People are who they are," I said to him and crossed my arms.
"You're upset with me, aren't you?"
"I'm not here to talk about me, Dillon," I said.
"Right," he sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "Terry was my old secretary. She was young and pretty and she wasn't Jade."
"Did you sleep with her?"
"Fuck, no. Never. I am not that guy, Malia. Even though Jade and I were never perfect, or our marriage or our life, I would never do that to her. Terry was the one who provided a shoulder to cry on. She would bring me coffee and we'd have a chat. I'd tell her about what Jade was up to, and the crazy things she'd accuse me of. Terry would listen to me and I appreciated that."
"She took your appreciation the wrong way, didn't she?"
"Yes. She thought that I wanted to have an affair with her, and when I turned her down, se turned into a psycho. She showed up everywhere we went, followed me around. She spread rumors about me, about us sleeping together in my office and other ridiculous things. Jade never believed that there was nothing going on from my side, and that we never did the things that Terry said we did."
"Two psychos in one life, that sucks," I muttered.
"You have no idea."
I stepped forward and dropped my hands to my sides. "You know, Dillon, if you told me that you had an affair with Terry, I wouldn't have been mad. That sounds crazy but it was a long time ago. It was long before I met you. Circumstances were different, and desperate. I'm not condoning cheating, but even if you did, it wouldn't matter to me."
Dillon glanced at me and let out a breath.
I pressed my hand against my chest and said, "I love you, and you and Willow are the most important people in my life."
Dillon walked up to me, put his arms around me and held me tight. "Thank you."
"You're welcome," I whispered in his ear. "Everything's going to be okay."
It was strange but I honestly didn't care what happened all those years ago. That was in the past, and it was best to leave it there. There was no point in trudging up the past just because Jade wanted ammunition for her lawyer. I wasn't going to let Jade do anything that was going to break up this family.
This was my family too, and I would fight to the death for them.
Dillon
I sleepily opened my eyes and felt the warmth of Malia's body next to mine. It was still dark in the room, but it was absolutely no indication of what time it was. I rolled over slowly and glanced at her, laying beside me on her side. A smile crept along the length of my mouth and I ran my hand along the curve of her hips. She wore a white cotton tank top which hugged her perfect breasts and a light pink pair of hot pants. I ran my fingers along the cotton, cupping her breasts until she groaned sleeping. She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen and I was truly grateful that she was mine.
My hands travelled down under the blankets, down her waist, and I slid my one hand between the thighs, spearing them a little. I then slipped my fingers under the soft fabric of her panties. I slid my finger between the soft skin, and found her clit, gently rubbing it. Her hands slowly reached for me as she brought her leg up and rested it between my legs, giving me even more access to her. I slid my finger inside her and she moaned softly.
I rolled her onto her back, my finger still inside her and with the other hand I pulled her tank top up, revealing her perfect breasts. I kissed and sucked on her nipples, still keeping the same pace with my finger until her back arched and her eyes opened, bright and filled with desire. She took hold of my wrist and slid my finger out of her, sitting herself into an upright position. She slid my shorts of
f, letting my already hard cock out into the open. She slipped her tank top off and threw it down onto the ground, or wherever the hell it ended up, I didn't really care.
She wrapped her fingers around my cock, and sucked on it, sending me straight into heaven as I stared at the ceiling, wishing it would never stop. Her full lips and tongue kissing and licking my shaft was incredible. I couldn't even see straight at that point but when she ran her fingernails along my torso, I was done for. She glanced up at me as she seductively licked the tip and sat upright.
"Lay down," I commanded in a hoarse voice and she did what I asked. I sat in front of her, gently spread her legs, placing one foot on each side of me, and lowered my face down onto her pussy. She moaned as I sucked her clit and gently gripping her breasts. The salty taste of her was amazing and I needed to be inside her.
Pushing myself up, I climbed on top of her, pinned her wrists above her head and slid myself inside her. My thrusts started out slow but being buried deep inside her awoken the animal inside me. I thrust into her, deeper and faster until she called out my name.
It was fucking fantastic.
She tried a few times to free herself from my grasp but she soon gave up, allowing me my moment. Her back arched as her moans began to grow louder. I kissed her, sucking her tongue while still thrusting inside her.
"Oh my god."
She glanced up at me, and I felt myself slip over the edge. Her eyes had a power over me that I just couldn't fight. I felt her pussy tighten against my cock and I sped up for the last time.
Her hips lifted slightly as I came deep inside her and our bodies convulsed in passion, and satisfaction.
I glanced down at her, her lips swollen and pink, her eyes focused on me, and I loosened my grip on her wrists. I slid out of her and sat down beside her.
"What?" I whispered with a sly smile as she panted beside me.
"Now that's the perfect way to wake up in the morning," she whispered in return.
I smirked at her and fell down against the soft sheets.
