The pregnancy had taken me by surprise, but deep in my heart, I wanted the baby so badly. I knew it wouldn’t be a walk in the park, but with support, I was sure I’d be fine. I just needed to be sure Ryan was in it for the long haul as well. The stubborn part of me won. I wasn’t going to answer his question, at least not the way he expected me to.
“Do you, Liv? You don’t have to answer right now,” he said.
“Ryan, what difference does loving you make in this situation? Love or not, we’re simply too young to deal with this. I personally want to keep the baby, but I need to know I’m doing it for the right reasons,” I said.
“What are the right reasons?” he asked, taking my hands in his.
I looked into his eyes and could see the sincerity in them. Ryan truly wanted the baby and me. Maybe if I gave him a chance, we’d be okay. The problem of sharing the news with our parents still remained, but if we stuck together, we could figure it out.
“Ryan, having a baby is a huge commitment.”
“I’m aware,” he said, rubbing my hand with his thumb. “But it’ll be two of us against one baby.” He smiled. “Surely we can do it.”
His words brought a smile to my lips. Maybe two adults could raise one baby. I could see a glimmer of hope in our situation. “What about school?” I asked.
“Well, if you’re already five weeks, you’ll be due late spring next year. We’ll figure out how to make your classes work. We’re already close to each other, so I can take care of you when we return to school.”
“What about you?” I asked, snuggling a little closer to him.
“I’m almost graduated. I’ll reduce my credit next semester and get a job to start saving money for the baby. We only have to get through a rough patch for a couple of months and we’ll be fine,” he replied.
“You’ve thought of everything.” The smile on my face got bigger.
“I haven’t thought of how to tell our parents, but we will tell them when the time is right. All I know is that I want to be with you. I care so much for you, and if this baby is anywhere as beautiful as you, I’ll be the happiest dad on earth.”
“And if our plans don’t work?”
“The plans will fail for one reason only.”
“What?” I asked as my heart leaped.
“If you don’t tell me whether you love me or not,” he said solemnly.
“Ryan! You know I’ve loved you since the day I met you. The fact that you’re even asking is wrong… how you can even ask me…”
Ryan didn’t let me complete my sentence; his lips claimed mine. Since we were still naked, his hands quickly started caressing my body, instantly turning me on. I reached down and found his hardening cock.
“Condoms?” Ryan asked as he pulled out a box of condoms he’d neglected to use earlier from his pants’ pockets.
“In nine months,” I replied, taking the box and tossing it as far as possible from us.

As I held Liv in my arms, I mused about how things always find a way of working themselves out. Liv being pregnant was unexpected and shocking, but it worked in my favor for a couple of reasons. I was becoming fonder and fonder of her, but I knew she was reserved about announcing our relationship, and rightly so. We knew there would be a great deal of backlash from family and friends, but the reality was that we were not blood related, and, in theory, there should be nothing wrong with us being together.
When I had invited her to come to the house I was showing, I wanted to talk to her about gradually making our relationship public. I knew she’d fight against it even though I knew deep down that she loved me like crazy. I was going to suggest that we tell our parents about us rather than let them find out the wrong way. My intentions had been to let her take the lead on that, let me know when she was ready, and we’d go in as a team to talk with them.
My goal had been to do it before we went back to school, but fate has a way of dealing with things. In our unique situation, we were having a baby. I was worried about how we would cope with the baby and all that came with it, but I didn’t want her freaking out more than she already was. I had done my best to keep calm.
With a baby coming in less than nine months, we had no reason to continue hiding our relationship from our parents any longer. I knew they’d be disappointed and even angry when they heard the news, but I also knew they’d eventually understand and have to work with us.
I looked at Liv - her face was glowing, and I could already see that pregnancy would look good on her. I couldn’t wait to get her back to my apartment for good after the summer and start working on making our own family. The thought that I’d be responsible for Liv and our baby was scary, but I knew it was something I’d do with pleasure. If I could love the baby half as much as I loved Liv, we would make a great family.
