Juliet nodded, and Shannon got up and walked over to Kellan. She folded herself into the chair with him, resting on his lap. She smiled at him and leaned in, whispering something softly in his ear.
Kellan pushed himself out of the chair, dumping Shannon unceremoniously to the floor in the process, and swept his gaze to the other women—both of whom wore amused expressions, “I’m going to shave in my office. Maybe you two can give the Highlander here a lesson in 21st century empathy.” He turned back to Shannon, who had simply swiveled her legs to sit crosswise on the floor. She looked up, showing her teeth. “As for you,” he continued, “No, they don’t have pizza at Little Alley. It’s a steak house. They have steak there—deal with it.”
A moment later, all three heard the distant sound of a door slamming and the room dissolved into giggles.
Kellan rubbed his face again, fingers searching out any last traces of missed stubble. Finding none, he set his Braun razor in its cleaning station and pressed the glowing blue button, causing the little device to whir and gurgle.
The young Sentinel stared at his reflection and thought he looked older somehow, but couldn’t immediately place it. Maybe the eyes. He leaned closer to the mirror and looked deeply into his own eyes.
“Uh oh, that’s probably not good,” Kellan said to himself. Around the light blue iris and encircling his entire pupil, lay a distinct thin ring of dark violet.
Kellan backed away and grinned at himself. “Oh well, a problem for another day. Tonight…steak!”

AUTHOR’S BIO
Robert W. Ross has spent the last twenty five years spinning stories and user journeys into web, mobile, and social experiences for brands ranging from the obscure to the iconic.
He has both a passion for pop culture and a deep loathing to discuss himself in the third person. However, his wife convinced him that anyone who took the time to reach the last page of his book might want to know a little about the person who wrote it.
To that end, Robert’s influences include authors such as Robert A. Heinlein, Phillip Jose Farmer, and Brandon Sanderson. He has a deep and abiding love for all things Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Sponge Bob. While Robert can often make obscure TV, Book, and Movie references, he sadly lacks Kellan’s eidetic memory. He is quite sure the brain space taken up by all that trivia is directly responsible for his lacking any sense of direction.
Sentinels of Creation: A Power Renewed, is Robert’s first published novel and he is already hard at work on the second book of the series. He lives in Atlanta with his wife of over twenty years, their kids, two Siberian Huskies, and about 11 different Apple products.
