Sadie looked wistful, as though she had something on her mind, but at that moment, Seb tinkled a silver cocktail spoon against his glass. ‘Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to propose a toast to our guest of honour – the fabulous Cherie Louboutin!’
‘The fabulous Cherie Louboutin!’ everyone chorused.
‘Speech!’ Jaren called.
Cherie raised one hand. ‘I don’t believe in giving speeches, but I would like to thank you all for this honour. My darling husband always used to say that there was nowhere quite like this little community and I am happy to say he was right. Here’s to all of you, my wonderful Castle Court family!’
They raised their glasses again and this time Cat chinked hers against Sadie’s. ‘And here’s to us, for weathering another storm. Let’s hope the next few months are calmer.’
Sadie considered the ups and downs of the last few days and smiled at her best friend. ‘I’ll definitely drink to that.’
