Adina climbed onto Sisera’s back and wedged herself between the dragon’s shoulders. Isabella followed her up and asked the dragon, “Are you OK?”
Sisera pumped her wings and launched herself easily into the air. “Just fine,” she said as they flew off to meet the sun in the eastern sky.
Isabella sighed. She knew Sisera wasn’t fine. The loss of Apophis weighed heavily on the dragon, as it did her. However, Sisera was putting on a brave face, ignoring the hurt and loss of their great leader, she knew her dragon would need time to mourn, but that time was not now. They still faced great dangers, and would need help. Neither Sisera nor herself could allow themselves to fall apart now. The dangers to the world were too great. The sinister mage who’d come through the portal with the High Priest of the Sacred Blood was still out there somewhere, as were the Sacred Blood themselves. And just as dangerous was what would happen among the dragons without Apophis there to lead them. What would Nelarth and his fellow minded dragons do now that Apophis was gone. Would they take the war to the Sacred Blood? Or would they take the war to all humans, reviving the ancient battle in full force. From sensing Sisera’s feelings, Isabella knew what was the most likely outcome. She could only hope Sisera was wrong.
As they stood on the witch’s beach, waiting for the stone dragon to come to life, Adina suddenly gasped. “I just realized that we left those three soldiers stranded on the island.
Isabella shrugged. “If they know what is good for them, they will find a way off of the isle before we return.” Part of her wanted to go back and finish them off, but she knew it wouldn’t bring back Apophis, and there was only more bloodshed in their futures. The death of Apophis insured it. The Sacred Blood had won the battle, as no high priest’s life was fair trade for the great alpha dragon, but the war was only just starting.
Author’s Notes
Thank you for reading Sisera’s Gift 3: DRAGON FLIGHT the third book in the Sisera’s Gift Trilogy and the fifth book in the Dragonblood series.
For readers of the Hanna Halfblood Series and the Stoneblood Sagas you will start to recognize some of the territories are the same. Actually, all three series share one map and world (The Bloodlands). Hanna Halfblood is set a few years before the other stories but after that they are very close in timeline. In the Stoneblood Series dragons are first sighted in book four. But unlike the more eastern countries, Solotine was a land of giants. Dragons and giants don’t mix well.
