Billionaires On the Beach: The Anderson Brothers Page 40

by Elizabeth Lennox

She thought he was a construction worker? Well, he was dressed in jeans and a work shirt. “That depends on what kind of tools you’re looking for,” he said in a husky voice as he stepped closer towards her.

Lifting her chin, she smiled coyly at him. “I’ve always had a thing for a man in a hard hat.”

“Come by my room later tonight, and I’ll show you every hard thing I have.”

When he was inches from her, she tossed back her head and laughed. “God. You men are so easy.” The doors opened, and she nimbly stepped outside. “Have a nice day. I hope you looked your fill.”

He stood in the elevator for a moment, stunned. Quickly, he realized this was his floor too, and he hopped out before the door closed.

Her heels clacked on the tile floor as he followed her. Out of curiosity, he stayed a few steps behind her. If she was on this floor, she was, no doubt, closer to being Duncan’s personal assistant than a simple secretary. But this meeting was only for the Board. So what was she doing here?

“What are you doing? That wasn’t anything serious,” she hissed as she whirled around.

  “It wasn’t?” he asked innocently.

“No. And you shouldn’t be up here. Are you lost?”

Was he lost? Well wasn’t that an interesting turn. “Maybe,” he said casually. “Is there a reason I shouldn’t be up here?”

Her features relaxed. “I’m sorry. I’m a little high-strung today. This floor is for VP members only. We have an important business meeting in the works. If you let me know who you’re waiting for, I can help direct you to the right place.”

“I have a meeting with Gabe Maxfield,” he said with a straight face.

“Ah. Well Mr. Maxfield will be preoccupied in the meeting for a while. You’re welcome to wait by his office, or I can let him know that you’d like to reschedule, Mr.…?”

“Maxfield,” he said with a smile.

Frustration flashed across her face. “Yes, I know you’re waiting on Mr. Maxfield. You know what, I’m sure Gabe will realize his mistake, and he’ll be in touch with you as soon as the meeting is over. On behalf of Duncan Enterprises, I apologize for the inconvenience.”

She had the power to apologize for the inconvenience? This was getting more and more interesting by the moment. She flashed him a small smile before spinning on her heels and moving faster. She must have realized that she was late.

At the end of the corridor, she pushed aside the glass doors. Through the panes, Gabe caught his eye and raised an eyebrow. Stephen hadn’t actually called to announce he would be attending. The truth was, Gabe wasn’t sure if Stephen was coming or not.

The woman rounded on him. “I thought I made it clear. This is a private meeting,” she said as she slapped her hands on his chest.

“Is it now? And you’re invited to this private meeting?” he asked as he cocked his head.

“Of course I’m invited,” she snapped. “I’m Angela Lopez, the Senior VP of the company. Do I need to call security?”

  About Lizabeth Scott

Who is Liz Scott? A voracious reader, full-time writer wanna be, wife, mother, and PA to two terrier terrors, Powder & Moxie. Liz is the author of The Royal Vow and Hearts of Gold Series and a Carolina girl who loves sand between her toes as frequently as possible. Liz is also known as GumShoeMom on the Geo-Caching circuit.

Behind the Book: Chased by the Billionaire

Here’s where I get to let loose with behind the book stuff you might like to know. This is raw, unedited and straight from me.

Last year, I was approached by my major author crush, Elizabeth Lennox with an invitation to participate in this book project. I jumped at the chance! First, because breast cancer has touched my family and the second reason, come on…it’s Elizabeth Lennox! That just blows my mind. I think the entire time I was writing A Sheik for Rose I was channeling Ms. Lennox. I love her sheik books. Oh, and the part in the book about kale chips came directly from a conversation with Ms. Lennox who “claims” they are so delicious her family gobbles them down faster than she can make them. I disagree. They are vile!

I knew my assigned brother right away. Greyson. And I knew he would be the playboy of the family that I would enjoy turning into a perfect mate for Gemma. I love turning bad boys. Just like Ethan in, A Cowboy for Mary. Ethan couldn’t stand to be in the same room with Mary or say a polite word to her. He fought his attraction to her so hard, silly man. Didn’t he know it was useless? In the end, he fell hard and then had to scramble to get Mary to forgive him. Greyson had a similar commitment phobia.

It took me a while to know Gemma. I’d just joined a gym and while walking endless miles on the treadmill I developed Gemma. I knew her struggles well as I’ve fought weight battles my whole life. Getting inside her head was easy. Many of her emotions come straight from my experiences.

Since I live in North Carolina the location of our books was a place that I know well, Wrightsville Beach. I love the beach and our family goes at least once a year for a family reunion week on Oak Island which is near Wrightsville Beach. All the parts of the book that take place in Southport are mostly all true. There is no Puttering Pottery, I made that one up. The part about the street light changing colors is actually true and scared the you-know-what out of my kids and my nieces when we went on the ghost tour. Locals is a real diner and we love to eat breakfast there. They have the best waffles with blueberry syrup, which I’m sure Gemma would never eat!

Something fell into place totally by accident. In my book Snow Kissed by the Billionaire the hero Mason has a best friend and business partner Marc who is suffering from a broken heart when his wife divorces him unexpectedly. Marc can’t understand what went wrong. You meet his ex-wife Callie in Puttering Pottery. Did you wondered what was up with her you’ll find out in their story, Sun Kissed by the Billionaire.

When Gemma ended up in Southport, I knew Callie was already there—they had to meet. Such a happy accident. Join my NEWSLETTER for updates and you will be the first to know about release info.

I hope you enjoyed Chased by the Billionaire and I would especially love it if you could leave a review at the place of purchase. And please keep in touch! I’d love to hear from you. You can find out more about me and my books on my website at LizScottBooks.com.
