Charity (Brides of the Rio Grande Book 4) Page 24

by Peggy McKenzie

Miles studied the man’s face. “I’ll do that, Doc. I sure will.”

Grace, Hope and Faith entered the parlor. Grace came to stand near her husband. “John, I think it’s time we headed home. We are staying the night with Hope and Billy.”

“Yes, I think we should all get out of here and let this groom enjoy his honeymoon.” Liam pulled Faith into his arms and together they headed for the front door.

Soon, Miles and Hiram were alone in the parlor and Aggie entered the room. “Hiram, I think it’s time we seek our bed. It’s been a long day of excitement.”

“Agreed, my sweet. Miles, we will leave you to your bride.”

Aggie kissed him on the cheek. “Charity is waiting for you. She’s a beautiful woman, inside and out. You are a very lucky man, sheriff.”

Hiram guided Aggie out the parlor and down the hall to their bedroom. The house was quiet now except an occasional pop and crack of the wood cooling in the evening air.

Miles took a deep breath and turned out the lamps. In the semi-darkness, he climbed the stairs to the second floor and his wife’s bed.

He knocked softly on her bedroom door. “Come in,” her voice called to him.

He opened the door to the soft glow of a hand-full of candles. Charity stood in the middle of the room wearing a diaphanous gown. Auburn waves hung to her waist and his fingers itched to tangle in the masses. “Charity, you take my breath away,” he whispered.

“So do you, she whispered back.”

He crossed the floor and stood in front of her worshipping her with his eyes. She grinned. “Are you just going to stand there and look at me or are you going to take me to bed?”

  “Impatient are you?”

“I’ve been waiting for this moment for years. I’d say I’ve been more than patient.”

“Then I won’t keep you waiting any longer.” Miles promised and unbuttoned his vest. He undid his tie, removed his shirt and started to unbutton his pants when Charity stepped up and stopped his hands.

“Let me do that,” she offered. “One of the lessons I learned at the ladies finishing school is…”

Desire swept through his body like a mountain forest fire, threatening to consume him on the spot. He removed his hands and allowed her to have complete access to him.

She whispered between planted kisses to his naked chest. “…a lady…” Kiss. “Never…” Kiss, her fingers deftly freeing him from his britches. “Allows her husband…” Kiss. Kiss. “To get undressed…” She kissed across his nipple and goosebumps pimpled his skin. “Alone.”

He laughed and pulled her to him, relishing the feel of her body against his. “You are some kind of lady, Mrs. Grayson. My kind of lady.”

  About the Author

  ABOUT THIS AUTHOR

Peggy McKenzie was born and raised in Oklahoma. She has been in love with books since as far back as she can remember when her earliest memories are of her summers spent roaming the Ada Public Library. Cool marble floors and polished oak tables transformed the quiet halls into the perfect place to fuel a young girl's imagination.

Fast forward to a few decades later when a move to the romantic southwest of Colorado lit the fire to write once more. Now, she is living her dream in the beautiful mountains surrounded by Ponderosa pines in her home she shares with her husband, Jim, and their three fur babies, Augustus McCray (Gus), Miki (Mickie) and Maddie.

Please follow Peggy on her journey of writing happy endings and second chances one story at a time. She is always excited to hear from her readers. Email her at [email protected]. Visit her website for updated news and releases.

Mary-Brides of the Rio Grande Book 5

Mary O'Brien was ten years old when her Irish immigrant family was attacked by a band of renegade Indians. Her parents and brother were murdered and she was kidnapped and marked as a slave. Traded to a tribe of kind nomadic Southern Utes, she spent the next eighteen years trying to forget about her past. But now, her past has returned and she has been reunited with the brother she thought long dead. She should be happy, and yet—she yearns for the simple life away from the cruel prejudices of the so-called civilized world.

Doc Howard has been Creede’s physician for the last five years. He graduated from the best medical school money could buy courtesy of his father, but now that his father was gone, he yearned to seek his mother’s people and learn their holistic ways of healing. He thought he could walk the fine line between both worlds without having to choose one over the other, but a woman of courage showed him that sometimes a man must choose to take a stand or have his choices made for him.
