A Bride for Braxton Page 8

by Cheryl Wright

Plenty did, the midwife told him. He was determined that wouldn’t happen to him. Besides, he’d delivered plenty of foals, why would this be any different?

Sierra let out a mighty scream, and the midwife checked her again. “The head is showing,” she said. “It won’t be long now.”

Braxton looked across to see Sierra crying. “I can’t wait to meet our baby,” she said between tears. She reached up and wiped the tears from his face.

“Get ready to push!” The midwife gently gave instructions through the whole process and kept them informed. “Okay, push.”

  Sierra squeezed his hand tightly.

  “Push again.”

  Sierra grimaced.

“One more. Come on, you can do it.” She encouraged Sierra, even though she was exhausted. “Your baby is nearly here,” she whispered.

Sierra pushed and screamed at the same time.

Braxton reached over and hugged Sierra when their baby began to cry. “It’s a boy,” the midwife announced.

A boy. They had a son. Cody Jacob Chalmers. The name they’d chosen together.

“Say hello to your baby boy.” He’d been checked over, then wrapped tightly and was handed over to Sierra. “You keep a hand on him, dad. Sierra is very tired now.”

She left them alone to get to know their new baby son.

All was right with the world now. He had the love of his life by his side, along with his beautiful new son.

Right then he knew Evelyn was looking over their shoulders, pouring her love over her great-grandson.
