“You know,” Nolan leaned down and brushed his mouth across hers, “I really like the way you think, Mrs. Ricks.”
She giggled. “If you like that idea, I can’t wait to tell you about another idea I have.” She wagged her eyebrows.
“Oh, let me guess. You are going to build a paranormal theme park here, too.”
Everyone around them laughed, but Nicole shook her head.
“My idea is even better.” She caressed his cheek.
“Then don’t keep me in suspense. What is your idea?”
She threw her arms around his neck and pressed herself against him fully. “I’m thinkin’ of having a bunch of children with you so that we can teach them how to scare people.”
As the small crowd who’d gathered laughed, all Nolan could do was kiss his bride, passionately. After all, this was the first step to creating children... was it not?
EPILOGUE
The Texas sunset brought beautiful gold and orange to the already purple haze sky, but what made it more memorable was that she could share this special moment with her husband – her wonderful, gorgeous, sexy... and very loving husband that she’d been able to call her own for a little over a month now.
Smiling, she cuddled next to him on the glider swing on the back porch of her mansion. The air was chilly, so they had a blanket thrown over their legs. His strong arms wrapped around her also kept her warm.
She traced her finger up his flannel shirt and to his neck, and then continued until it reached his mouth. He smiled down at her and kissed the tip of her finger.
“What are you thinking?” he wondered.
“How lucky I am.” She laid her head on his chest. “You’ve made me very happy.”
He kissed the top of her head. “We share the same thoughts, then.”
“Good. Every day I’m reassured that marryin’ you was the right thing to do.”
It was hard to believe they’d been married for a month already, when it only seemed like last week they were getting rid of ghosts... and she was buying the bed and breakfast. Once they came home and had two more larger wedding receptions – one in Surprise, Arizona, and the other right here in Austin, Texas, she and Nolan started setting up their home. It shocked her to see how much stuff he had. But then, she didn’t mind. She had plenty of room.
“Are you ready to go inside?” he asked.
“Not yet. I think it is romantic watchin’ the sunset with the man I love.”
“Good.” He tightened his arms around her shoulders. “Because I rather like this. After the busy day we had, getting the winery set up, being out here with you is helping me to relax.”
“I think tomorrow, we should finish arrangin’ our bedroom. I think you’ll need a larger closet for all your flannel shirts.”
He laughed. “I only bought them for my trip to Colorado. I definitely don’t need flannel in Arizona.”
“Well, there might be days you’ll need it here.”
“And what about you? I’m surprised you don’t have a whole closet just for your cowgirl boots.”
Chuckling, she lifted her head and looked at him. “Actually, I do have my own closet for my boots. I just haven’t showed you that, yet.”
The volume of his laughter increased as he buried his face in her neck. She shivered with pleasure.
“I’m actually surprised,” he straightened, meeting her gaze, “that you haven’t hired servants to do the unpacking and rearranging.”
She arched an eyebrow. “It’s because I’ve always done things myself. I don’t need other people to do it for me. I’m not like Bailey.”
He touched a finger to her nose. “And I thank the good Lord every day for that blessing.”
“And speakin’ of Bailey, the other day I heard her tell three people thank-you, and one was the limo driver.”
“That’s great. Maybe she won’t turn out like Victoria after all.”
“I think she’s on her way to bein’ a decent person.”
“Good, because she just needs to watch you to learn how to do it. You have always been gracious and sweet. Those were the first things Aaron and Beth noticed about you.”
She leaned closer and kissed his mouth. The kiss was brief, but it still made tingles run through her body. “Do you know what I just remembered?”
“No, what?”
“You haven’t told me the story about how you helped Aaron be a ghost for three months.” She wagged her eyebrows. “You know how I love a good ghost story.”
His grin stretched. “I’d love to tell you about Aaron and how he nearly died.”
Nolan shifted in the two-seated glider and she rested in his arms. He took a deep breath and slowly released it.
“Aaron Powers stood on the Rockwell Theatre stage, as a sold-out room of spectators sat and watched him as he prepared his next act. Sweat formed on his forehead and behind his neck. Even his palms were moist. The frantic rhythm of his heartbeat only made things worse... The loud music with the intense beat boomed throughout the theatre, heightening the moment when Aaron would climb into the box for his swords-through-the-box illusion....”
