“Thank you very much. I appreciate your coming here so quickly. What about Ms. Rose, what should we do about her?”

“Well, we’ve offered to have a unit parked out front just in case the perpetrators decide to return to the building but she declined. She said she didn’t want to stay here tonight and admitted to not having any family in town. We can’t force her so I’m not sure what else I can suggest to her aside from a woman’s shelter.”

“I’ll see what I can do about Ms. Rose’s living arrangements and I’ll finish up here. Thank you very much for your assistance.” I said.

“You’re welcome. Have a good rest of the night.”

Awkward silences aside, I found Jennifer sitting at her dining room table spinning a beer bottle between her hands. Jack stood nearby trying to be of service and comfort in the only way he knew how – hovering and then saying something about having an early meeting in the morning.

“So the officers just wrapped up and left. They suggested keeping a unit in front of the building but I don’t think it’s a good idea leaving Jennifer here alone by herself so I can stay here with her if it’ll make her feel safe.”

“That sounds like a good plan. Thank you for alerting me about this promptly and for leading the investigation.”

  “You’re welcome, Jack.” I nodded.

“I’m going to get going but I just told Jennifer that she isn’t required to report in until she feels ready.”

“Okay. I’ll finish up here and give you an update tomorrow.” I suggested.

“Tomorrow’s Saturday. I trust that unless anything else happens you’ll give a full report first thing Monday morning.” Jack nodded and headed towards the front door.

  “Good night.” I waved goodbye.

After Jack left, I sat down silently in the chair next to Jennifer not saying a word, I didn’t want to force her to talk about what happened before she was ready to. After about ten minutes of uncomfortable silence, I broke the ice, “I don’t expect you to want to stay here by yourself and as you know your friends are at Sibley Memorial, so I don’t mind staying here if that’s what you want. Or I could also take you wherever you want to go like a hotel or whatever.”

“Can we go to your place?” she asked.

“You want to go to my place?” I didn’t expect that.

“Yeah. Even with you staying here, I don’t really feel comfortable. I know it’s kind of inconvenient but I really don’t feel safe staying here right now. Can we go to your place?”

“Yeah, we can do that, I do live in Arlington which is a decent amount of distance away so you should be safe there.” I said. “Okay, um…I guess the next step is for you to pack the essentials or whatever you think you’ll need in the interim. Do you need my help?”

“No I can handle it. Thank you for letting me stay at your place.”

“No need to thank me. Your safety is my number one priority. You can stay as long as you need to.” I placed a hand on my heart making Jennifer smile before she disappeared down the hallway.

An hour later, Jennifer and I made it to my apartment in Arlington and by the time we arrived it was now two in the morning and we were both dead tired. Pun not intended. As we walked into the front door to my apartment, I was reminded of the fact that it had been a long time since I brought a woman back after a great date. Granted we didn’t just come back from a date but it still had been a long time nonetheless. Ever since I joined the CIA, my social life and visits home were far and few between and although it wasn’t an ideal situation, it was one of the sacrifices I knew I had to make. I was okay with it back then and seven years later I still was okay with it.

I placed her duffle bag on top of my dining room table, “Welcome to my humble abode. You can take my bedroom and I’ll just take the couch and keep guard.” I winked.

“You don’t have to take the couch. I’ll be fine here in the living room, I don’t want you to be inconvenienced by my presence. You’ve done more than enough for me and I truly appreciate it.” Jennifer said picking up her bag and walked back toward the living room.

“You aren’t being an inconvenience. I really appreciate the company. Besides, you had a rough day and you deserve a good night’s rest. Please take it.”

  “Are you sure?” she asked.

“Yes, you are my guest. I wouldn’t expect you to sleep on the comfortable couch.”

Jennifer bounced up and down on the couch cushion, “It doesn’t feel comfortable to me. Really, I don’t mind sleeping here.”

“I won’t have you doing anything of the kind. The master bedroom is down the hallway and has an en suite. If you need to shower or what not, the linen closet is down that way also.”

“Thank you. I sooooo needed a shower.” Jennifer admitted before as she took her belongings and disappeared down the hall.

By the time she finished up with her shower, I was already dressed down to a white undershirt and gym shorts and made up the couch. I even managed to watch the first thirty minutes of some comedy movie I didn’t recognize. As she walked into the living room, I noticed Jennifer wore one of my old baseball tees and an old pair of my gym shorts.

“I realized after my shower I didn’t bring any pajamas so I borrowed some of your clothes. I hope it’s alright.” Jennifer asked timidly before sitting down next to me on the couch.

“They look better on you than they do me and don’t worry about it. My apartment is your apartment. I wouldn’t expect you to sleep in uncomfortable clothes. By the way, I freed up a couple of the top drawers for your clothes so they don’t get wrinkled. I do have an iron if you wanted to use that instead.” I said.

  “Thanks. I really appreciate it.”

“You’re welcome. Anytime you need anything, just ask.”

“So, what are you watching?” she asked.

“I don’t know, I just turned on the television and it was already on. It’s quite hilarious, whatever it’s called. Hey, are you hungry or do you want something to drink? I’m sorry I forgot to ask. I could whip up something really quick.”

Jennifer laughed, “Can we just stay up for a bit, I can’t sleep.”

“Sure, we can do that but I was also going to suggest a beer and I have wine too. If I drink enough, usually the drunkenness dies down and I get tired eventually.”

“Alright, I’ll just have one. You should probably stick to one too, God forbid I see what you look like when you’ve had to many.”

  ****

I woke up the next morning and found both Jennifer and I reclined on the sofa half-naked and intertwined in the afghan I brought out hours before. The last thing I remembered was the two of us laughing and watching a hilarious move only to wake up and realize I was spooning Jennifer against me with my arms wrapped around her waist and some of our clothes were on the floor.

  Shit. What happened?

I guess during the night my body instinctually wanted to keep her warm while other parts wanted to be closer than what was comfortable and appropriate. I was already hard at the thought of how little there was between us below the waist. What was I thinking? Shit, now I remember. It was a little hazy but I remember some things…

“Jesus, you must know what you are doing.” My hand was on her head trying to direct her but she obviously didn’t need my suggestion. She knew what she was doing – she practically had one hand on my shaft and her other hand on my balls.

We were in the living room and I was slouching on the coach, my head leaning back against the headrest, I was groaning with pleasure. It was only a bit ago when we met for the first time and normally I could get along with anyone but something about her told me to back off but I guess those warning signals went out the window. I didn’t want to think about what was going to come after this because I didn’t do relationships, I couldn’t doing what I did. If you add in the fact that she was a part of the agency too, it was a recipe for disaster – tenfold.

She stopped sucking my cock and started a trail of kisses with h
er lips starting at my cock and up past my stomach, licking as she went. She must have really wanted to devour me, she had the look in her eyes. I wrapped my arms around her once her lips reached mine and I gripped her ass.

  “It’s my turn.” I grunted.

“Yeah it is. I’m doing all the work here.” she whined.

“Are you now? I’ll show you who’s doing all the work.” I grinned as I started to remove her shirt over her head and discarded it on the floor. I did the same with her bra, shorts, and panties. My eyes roamed her body taking it in for the first time and I surprised myself by wondering why I hadn’t noticed her this way before.

“Are you going to just stare at the goods or are you going to do something about it?” she asked devilishly.

“I’m going to do something about it.” I warned. Our mouths connected and heat hit our tongues as they tangled in a hot little dance. Jennifer couldn’t get enough and stood up to straddle me and ground herself against me so that my cock touched her pussy. I needed more resistance there as I groaned which gave her the encouragement to ground herself against me harder.

I never want this to end, I remember thinking…

I was surprised and shocked at the thoughts crossing my mind and I started to panic. I didn’t want to be tempted again so I needed to find a way to get off the couch without waking her up but it was proving to be a difficult task. Jennifer and I were going to have a talk about what happened. Fortunately for me it only took twenty nerve-wracking minutes before I was able to get off. Just as I freed myself from the ‘land of no turning back again’, my cell vibrated with an incoming call. It was my mother.

“Hey mom, is everything alright over there?”

My parents lived in New York where I was originally from and although it had been some time since I visited them, that didn’t stop us from talking at least once a week usually in the evenings when they knew I would be more likely home. It was rare for her to call in the morning, so I naturally expected something was wrong.

“Everything is alright dear. I was calling because you asked me a few weeks ago to remind you about your brother’s wedding if you ever forgot to RSVP. It’s on Sunday by the way.”

“Sunday? Shit, I forgot to RSVP.” I ran my hand through hair. I promised Eric I’d be there for him no matter how busy I was and I’ve kept up my promise thus far.

“Don’t worry about it. I reserved your spot a long time ago. Besides, your brother would find a way to include you. You know that.”

“Yeah, I know mom. I can’t believe I forgot, it completely slipped my mind.”

“Well, now you know. You have 36 hours to get here, plane tickets will super expensive but it’s a small price to pay for your brother’s happiness don’t you think?” She was right, no matter what happened she always looked at the glass half full and always had a positive perspective to things.

“I’ll figure something out. Thanks mom. I’ll see you soon.”

“Oh, honey don’t forget two things.”

“What’s that?” I said as I paced around the living room checking on Jennifer every so often, making sure I didn’t wake her up.

“Well when you get here I want you to talk to your father. No excuses.”

“Mom, you know what’s going to happen, nothing ever changes. All he’s going to do when I get there is ask me if I’m still working for the agency and I’ll say ‘yes’ and then he’ll spend the entire time I’m there talking about how I have the wrong sense of patriotism and if I was in the Marines like he was and yadda yadda yadda.”

“Greyson, you know he only means well. Give him the benefit of the doubt.”

“Mom, I have so many times and every single time I visited, he gave me a hard time about the military and how it would have made me a real man. I don’t want to go through that with him again. I promise I’ll make an effort but I’m not going to listen to his lectures anymore. He needs to understand that I love where I work and I’m never going to join the military. I’m sorry but I’m not going to tolerate it just for the sake of keeping peace.”

“You’re just as stubborn as he is.”

“Where do you think I got it from? Alright, mom, I’ve got to get going. I have some things to take care of and afterwards I’ll buy a flight home. I love you, I’ll see you soon.”

“I love you two honey and I also forgot, I said you were coming with a plus one so unless you’ve got a girlfriend already, I suggest you bring a date. Everyone’s expecting you to show up with a nice girl.” she confessed.

“Why is everyone expecting me to have a girl with me?”

“I kind of told everyone that you had a nice gal you were seeing and that they could meet her at the wedding.”

“Mom, really? I’m not embarrassed I’m single.”

“Well you should be. A nice looking man like you should be married and have kids. What do you expect me to say when I’m asked …?”

“I’m hanging up now mom, love you. Bye.” I said hung up before she had a chance to catch me off guard with another one of her random confessions.

  Chapter Six

  Jennifer

“Your mom is giving you a hard time huh?” I asked as I sat up stiffly, rubbing the sleepiness out of my eyes.

I must have been deeply asleep for hours because I didn’t remember falling asleep at all. The last thing I remembered was watching some movie with Greyson until he got shit drunk, passed out on the couch and then next thing I knew I woke up on the couch too. I don’t remember much that happened after Greyson passed out, I don’t even remember how the movie ended. I must have gotten a lot of rest because I feel rested. I would have preferred to keep sleeping but I was woken up to Greyson pacing the living room in some sort of comical argument with what I realized was his mom. At first I wasn’t sure what they were talking about but after eavesdropping for a few minutes I realized they were talking about someone’s wedding.

“You heard all of that did you?” he asked me sheepishly.

“Unfortunately I did. I might even dare to say I rather enjoyed it. Sorry.” I grinned.

  “Ugh.”

“So what did she say? Why do you look stressed, did something happen?” I asked.

“I’m supposed to go to my brother’s wedding.” I sighed and flopped down on the couch next to her.

“What’s wrong with going to a wedding? Do you not like your brother or something?”

“No that’s not it, it’s just …I never go home anymore.” Greyson clammed up immediately. Whatever it was, he wasn’t talking about it. The one thing that I was good at, was wearing people down and I was confident that I’ll have him telling me his whole life story come Monday morning.

“Why don’t you go home? Don’t you want to see your family?” I prodded again.

“Of course I want to see them, it’s just so stressful being around my dad. Don’t get me wrong he’s the greatest but he somehow always manages to give me a hard time about not following his footsteps and joining the Marines. He still hasn’t accepted the fact that I am just not cut out for the military. I love our country but I’m not hard core like he is about that. He’s a little too excessive when it comes to his patriotism. Anyway, I’m just not looking forward to another run in.”

“Then don’t go. I know it’s your brother’s wedding and all but if it means putting yourself into a situation like that, is it really worth going? I mean you’ll just be unhappy and you’re not supposed to be unhappy at a wedding.” I suggested.

“I can’t miss his wedding. I promised my little brother Eric that I’d be wherever he needed me and there’s nothing bigger than his wedding. I’ll just have to figure something out, I guess.”

He looked frustrated. I didn’t really think a little family squabble about not joining the military was not a big thing compared to what I was going through with Jack. He and I haven’t resolved our differences and I don’t plan on it either. Every chance he got and in his own awkward way, he’s been trying to communicate a li
ttle either by saying something or being supportive but I didn’t want his help, I barely wanted to be in the same room as him. The only reason I was tolerating him at any level was because he was my boss unfortunately and if I wanted to get to the interesting parts of the job (frankly, I’m dying of boredom here) I had to try to get along with him enough to get there.

“Well, I wouldn’t stress out. Worst case scenario, the two of you get into another argument again and the best case scenario – you two have a heartfelt conversation about the differences you two have and your relationship is better for it.”

  “Really?” he asked.

“No, this is real life. It isn’t a movie, more than likely the two of you get into an argument … you storm out and go back to the way things still are.” I shrugged.

Greyson rubbed the back of his neck in frustration, “Great. That’s two problems I’m going to have to solve now.”

“Two problems? What’s the other one?”

“I have to find a date to the Wedding. Apparently my mom told all of my relatives and family friends that I was bringing a date with me.” he sighed.

“That doesn’t seem like a problem to me. I’m sure you can round up a date easily…free trip to…?”

  “New York.”

“See, free trip to New York. What girl doesn’t want a free trip to New York in exchange for being your date?”

“Well, her version of a ‘date’ is more like a girlfriend…fiancée…something along those lines. I expect to get a barrage of questions…shit I’m screwed. Wait! What about you? You’re avoiding your apartment, unless you want to stay here by yourself.” he muttered to himself even though I was sure he thought he was probably talking to me.

“What are you suggesting?” he had the look of a mad scientist who had just come with a life changing idea. A light bulb moment.

“Why don’t you come with me?” he suggested.

“Me?” I pointed to my chest.

“Yeah, why don’t you be my plus one? All you have to do is just pretend to be my date and answer a thousand questions.”
