“I’ll take my leave,” Romulus said. “See me in the morning. You will both need an examination.”
When Romulus had left, I tugged Jeslyn to my chest. “How do you feel?”
She leaned against me. “Strange, but still me. Did it work?”
“I don’t know. I’ve never binded to anyone.”
“But you’ve taken people’s auras?”
“Yes. But this… this felt much different.” I pulled back from her. I wanted to see her. To see if she had any part of me.
Slight changes. Her skin seemed brighter, and her ears slightly tipped at the points, but it was the color of her eyes that shocked me.
Blue fire.
“Your eyes.” I caressed her cheek.
“What do they look like?”
“Like blue flames dancing.”
“You look the same.” She pouted.
I brought her hand to my lips. “You sound disappointed?”
“I wonder what else I got from you?”
“Shall we find out?” I pulled her closer and kissed her. It had been too long since the softness of her lips had touched mine.
Grasping her waist, I lifted her closer. I wanted all of her, tonight, and every night after. Water stuck to her thin dress, weighing it down. The silky material clung to her, revealing all the curves of her body. With her arms wrapped around my neck, I lifted her up and carried her out of the pool. She kissed me deeper, never letting our connection break.
We stood by the bank of the pool, water dripping off our clothes. I stepped back from her and undid my shirt. She smiled, and bit her bottom lip.
“You are mine,” I said.
“No, you are mine.” In a burst of movement, she slammed me against the nearby tree, splintering it.
Her gaze widened, and I laughed.
“It seems you have gained some of my power as well.”
She laughed, but frowned. “And what have you gained from me? I don’t have any special talents.”
“That is where you are wrong.” I gripped the back of her neck, moving my face until I was only a breath away from her lips. “You have given me everything.”
Before she could argue with me, tell me I was ridiculous, I cut off her words with a deep, hungry kiss. She would never fully understand how she had impacted my world. How she changed me from a monster into a man. How she had saved my people from extinction.
She had given me everything.
And I would spend eternity giving her everything back.
