Holding Onto Kinsley Page 7

He pulls my back against his front while he’s talking and reaches his hand into my bra and pinches my nipple. I moan, loving the feel of his hands on me and his lips on my skin. “We will be moving in within the week. Fax me whatever you need me to sign.” He throws his phone on the table when he is finished.

“Fuck Kinsley. Knowing we just bought a house has me so fucking hard. I need to touch you. Is that okay love?”

I nod, eager for more of his touch. He spreads his thighs, making me do the same since I’m on his lap, reverse cowgirl style.

“Take your shirt off love.” He demands, and I listen, pulling it over my head, tossing it to the side. He removes my bra and throws it in the same direction as my shirt. Running his hands up my stomach to my large breasts, I moan when he squeezes them together in his big hands.

“You’re so soft, so damn soft like fucking flower petals.” Maverick runs his tongue up my neck, sucking and nibbling until he gets to my mouth.

“Kiss your man Kinsley.” I turn in his arms, so I’m straddling his front and show him how much this means to me too. I rake my fingers through his hair and rock my panty covered pussy along his hard dick in his basketball shorts.

“I can feel how wet you are for me through my shorts baby, you’re soaked. Can I make you feel good Kinsley?”

“Yes Mav, make me feel good.” I murmur lost in how good I already feel.

Maverick kisses down my neck to my breast at the same time he slides his hand under my skirt to my drenched panties. He sucks my nipple into his mouth and I jolt at the feel of his tongue swirling around me. Pulling my panties to the side, he slides a finger through my lips and rubs my pulsing clit, better than I ever could.

“You’re even softer here, but you knew that didn’t you? Did you touch yourself thinking about me love?” I blush, remembering every shower I’ve had since meeting him.

“Me too Kinsley. I’ve taken myself in hand so many times imagining how much better your pussy will feel around my dick.” Then he pushes his finger inside me, rubbing my walls until he finds the spot he’s looking for. The one that makes me even wetter and has me begging him not to stop. He pulls out only to push two skilled fingers back inside to the same spot.

“Kinsley, goddamnit baby. This pussy is mine. Tell me it’s fucking mine, just like the rest of you. A man waits his entire life to find his jewel, and that’s what you are Kinsley. You’re my jewel, and I’m going to keep you. Now tell me what I need to hear. Tell me it’s mine.”

“It’s yours Maverick. I’m yours, it’s all yours.” I babble, needing him to keep going. His kiss isn’t gentle as he devours my mouth, kissing me in a way he never has. Plunging his fingers in and out of me, he rubs his thumb around my clit and I cum harder than I ever have. Once I’ve ridden out my orgasm, I slump against his chest catching my breath.

  “What about you?” I whisper.

He laughs. “I came in my shorts like a fucking teenager looking at a Playboy for the first time. I’m good Sweetheart, promise.”

I kiss his chest, happy he enjoyed that as much as I did.

I wake in the middle of the night hearing my Angel crying. I jump out of bed and get to her as quick as possible. When I get there, she is in her momma’s arms crying for all she’s worth. As soon as she sees me, she reaches her arms up for me. My Angel needs me. I pull her into my arms and rub her back as she settles, whimpering sadly.

“What’s wrong with our girl?” I ask worriedly pacing the room trying to figure out what needs to be done.

It’s then that I take in my woman who is half dressed and looking exhausted. “I’m not sure. I think it might be an ear infection. She keeps pulling on her ear.”

I look at my little Angel, and her lip quivers with fat tears rolling down her chubby cheeks. She’s in pain, and it’s killing me inside. “I got you Angel baby. Me and momma are going to get you better.” I coo, holding her tight. Sadie lays her head on my shoulder, and I notice for the first time how hot she is to the touch.

  “She’s burning up Kinsley.”

“I know. I gave her pain reliever two hours ago, but it hasn’t gone down. It was one-oh-one when I gave it to her, and now she’s up to one-oh-two point four. I was just about to put her in a cool bath when you walked in.”

I’m pissed she didn’t wake me up two hours ago when this all started, but I’ll wait for that conversation. Right now I need to get my Angel better. I walk out of the room to get my phone with Kinsley following behind me asking what I’m doing. I ignore her and call Samson.

“Get me directions to the closest Emergency Room and send the address to my phone. I’m leaving in five minutes.”

I hang up and place the now sleeping Sadie on the bed, putting my pillows around her. The poor girl wore herself out. “Go get yourself dressed Kinsley, we are leaving in five minutes.”

She nods and walks to her room with tears in her eyes. Fuck! Ten minutes later we’re driving to the local E.R., which is thirty minutes away. Kinsley hasn’t said a word to me and is huddled against the door.

“Kinsley, I fucked up. I’m sorry I spoke to you like that. Please look at me.”

She looks over at me but stays close to her side. “You don’t get to talk to me like that Maverick. No one does.”

Her anger slices through me and I promise myself to never talk down to her again. I hate that I am the one to make her feel this way when she’s already stressed enough as it is.

“I won’t, I give you my word Kinsley. I shouldn’t have spoken to you that way, but I was pissed you didn’t wake me when Sadie was sick. I was right there, why didn’t you come and get me?”

She stares out the window for a minute and then sighs. “Honestly it didn’t occur to me to wake you. I’m the one who takes care of Sadie, not anyone else. It’s not like there was anything you could do.”

“Really?” I ask wondering what the hell she calls what I’m doing now?

“That’s not what I meant. At the time, I thought she needed medicine and extra love. Babies get sick Mav. Sometimes you have to let time and the body work its magic. Even, as hard as it is to watch her go through.” She says gently, lacing her fingers through the hand I have resting on my thigh.

I squeeze her hand in mine and raise it to my mouth, kissing the back of her hand. “I didn’t think about it like that. I couldn’t stand seeing her in pain Kinsley. How do you handle it?”

“Not sure yet, but it’s better having you here beside me feeling just as helpless.”

After waiting almost an hour to be seen, Sadie is called back to wait even longer. I’m about to go in search of a doctor when my phone rings. I grab it to turn off the ringer, so my Angel doesn’t wake. When I see it’s my dad, I answer. “Hey dad, now isn’t a good time. You and mom-”

“What room are you in?” He asks.

I look at Kinsley who is staring at me confused as I am. “What do you mean?”

“Samson. When you wouldn’t answer his calls, he called and told us where you were going. We’re out in the waiting room, but they say you’re not a patient.”

  “I’m not.”

“Good. Your mother is going out of her mind.”

“But my fiancé’s daughter is. We’re in room five-oh-three.” I say, and he hangs up.

“What was that about? And what did you mean, fiancé?” Kinsley asks.

“Ready to meet my parents?” I laugh nervously.

She glares at me, probably ready to do me harm after the night we’ve had. Sadie chooses that moment to wake up crying, tugging on her red ear. A minute later I hear my dad yelling at someone to let him by.

“That’s my granddaughter in there. So help me god if you don’t let me in this room I’m going to have the president of this hospital on the phone. What’s your name again, son?”

“No need to call him sir. I’ll take you to your granddaughter.”

  There’s a quick kn
ock and then my mother and father are walking in with a man who I assume is Sadie’s doctor.

“Ms. Ellington is it okay if Mr. and Mrs. Sutton are present during your daughter’s evaluation?”

She eyes my parents and then looks over at me. She nods at the doctor. “It’s fine. Please, she’s been running a fever for almost four hours, and it keeps going up. She has been tugging on her ear, so I’m assuming that’s what it is.”

We all watch as the doctor tries his best to assess my Angel. “It’s definitely an ear infection. I’ll have the nurse bring in some medication to make her sleep and some more pain reliever. The best thing for Sadie right now is rest. I’m also going to write a prescription for an antibiotic. She should start feeling better in a couple days.”

“Thank you, Dr…” Kinsley says, holding her hand to the doctor.

He shakes Kinsley’s outstretched hand with a wide smile. “Dr. Stevens. Ma’am. Have a good night.”

After the doctor leaves, the room is silent except for Sadie who keeps fussing. “Here, let me hold her for a while Sweetheart.” Maverick offers, holding out his hands.

I gladly give her over, desperately in need of a break. She snuggles into him and is asleep in a few minutes. I’m still amazed how easy it is for him to quiet her down and put her at ease. I shouldn’t be surprised, because he has the same effect on me.

“My stars Ryland. I wouldn’t believe it if I didn't see it with my own two eyes.” Mrs. Sutton wonders aloud.

Maverick clears his throat, and I’m a little shocked when he blushes. “Kinsley, these are my parents Ellen and Ryland. Mom and Dad, this little angel is Sadie and her beautiful mother, Kinsley.” He says, introducing us.

I hold out my hand, not really sure what to do with myself when Ryland pulls me in for a tight hug. His warmth and acceptance startle me because I’m not used to this type of affection from my own parents.

“Never seen him like this, girl. Whatever you’re doing. Thank you for bringing out a part of him we haven’t seen since he was a child.” He says into my ear, before releasing me to his wife.

“Kinsley, we’re a bunch of huggers in this family. Don’t mind us.” Ellen says before wrapping me in her arms. “We’ve got you girls, now. I can see it all over your face, dear. You’re his, and that makes you ours.” She whispers then kisses my cheek. A stray tear rolls down my cheek, and she wipes it away quickly.

“Sorry, we burst in on you three like this. We wanted to make sure Mav was okay.”

“That’s on me, momma. All I could think about is getting my Angel to the doctor, so they could make her better, nothing else mattered.”

Ellen smiles warmly at her son and then looks up at her husband, who gives her a slight nod. “Well how about we leave you both to it. Don’t think you need us here. Give us a call tomorrow and let us know how sweet Sadie is doing, eh there Mav?” Ryland says.

“Yeah, dad. I’ll call you tomorrow.”

Ellen pulls me in for another hug. “You need anything you give me a call. I’ll get your number from Mav and be calling you soon so we can have a girls day, Miss Sadie is included of course.”

  “I’d like that.”

She pats my cheek, then looks at her son. He is murmuring to his dad while holding my Sadie as if she were his. “It’s like you woke him up. All he ever did was work. I can see that is all going to change. Take care of him.”

“I will,” I say, happy to mean it.

“Ryland, it’s time to go dear.”

He drops a kiss on my head as he passes and walks out, hand in hand with his wife.

I slump into the seat next to the patient bed where Maverick is sitting with Sadie. “Did that just happen?”

  “Sure did.” He laughs.

The nurse comes in a few minutes later and gives Sadie two different medications that don’t take long to kick in. She’s asleep before we even make it back to Maverick’s truck. We sit in the front seat for a few minutes in silence. I reach over and grab his hand. “You good to drive?”

“I can manage.” He tells me tiredly.

By the time we make it back to his cabin the sun is coming up, and we’re dead on our feet. I put Sadie in her bed, then strip down to my panties and t-shirt, while Mav does the same. We crawl into bed and fall asleep in each other’s arms.

  ∞∞∞

I wake up slowly and am surprised Mav isn’t beside me still sleeping. When I look over to check on Sadie, she isn’t in her crib either. How did I sleep through her waking up? It’s weird being the last to get up. The sun is high in the sky, and I can only guess that it’s early afternoon. I know I should enjoy the time, but my two favorite people are somewhere else, and I need to find them. Getting out of bed I stretch and grab a clean pair of leggings. Thank god there’s a washer and dryer here or I’d be out of clean clothes by now.

“What are your thoughts, love?” I ask, nuzzling my face into the juncture between her shoulder and neck. She’s been staring out the window of the master bedroom since I left her in here to speak with my realtor. I just signed the last bit of paperwork, and now the house is officially ours.

Kinsley has been quiet since we arrived and it’s killing me not knowing what is going on in her head. The past two weeks have been the best of my life. We have grown closer in the past week alone, learning and sharing things with one another I never have with anyone else. I know it won’t always be like this, but I pray for God to show me the wisdom to keep my woman happy.

Each day I feel some of her apprehension fade away, replaced with strength. Her resolve to stand against the man who betrayed her and protect the child she’s raised alone, makes me love her even more.

She tenses in my arms, and if that isn’t enough of a blow, tears are rolling down her cheeks when I turn her to face me. What the hell happened between the morning we spent kissing in my bed, my body wrapped around her delicious curves and now?

“I cannot do this Maverick.” She whispers through tears. “I thought I could live this fairytale dream with you, but I was wrong. We are wrong to believe we could ever be anything more than who we are.”

“You’re talking in circles Sweetheart. What has you so upset?”

“Didn’t you hear me?” She fumes and pushes against my chest.

I don’t budge. I refuse to give in. She’s mine goddamnit, and I won’t let her put space between us!

She crumbles to the ground and starts crying into the palms of her hands. “You don’t understand. He’s going to ruin all of this.” She cries, sweeping her arm around the room and then falls to the floor, where she pulls her knees to her chest and looks away from me.

I sit beside her silently waiting for her to give me more. “Maverick, there are things I haven’t told you. Important things. He could destroy you. Your business, your family and he will ruin it all to have me back under his control.”

“I’d never let that happen to you or Sadie. Where is this coming –“

She shakes her head sadly. “His name is Liam O’Sullivan. I didn’t know until about six months after we were married that he was anything more than a businessman. Stupid me, I was naive to believe he went to work each day at some unknown company.” She snorts derisively. “Banking. He said he was in banking and client operations.”

I want so badly to pull her into my arms and tell her I know this already, but I won’t. She needs to get it out. Instead, I sit quietly, listening to her unload her demons.

Samson sent over the intel the day after we got to the cabin. Kinsley’s ex-husband is a high-ranking member of the North Eastern American-Irish Mob. From what I hear, her father is mixed up with them and offered his daughter as a bargaining chip to cement his relationship within the organization.

“I am not supposed to know what he does, but I started putting things together slowly. He would get called out at all hours of the night. Then one night he came home with
blood on his shirt. I figured it all out when I stumbled into a meeting with Liam and a few of his men. I was terrified what he would do to me, but he surprised me when he did nothing but tell me to get out. He told me later that night that if I ever told anyone what I heard I would die. After that, he didn’t try and hide it from me.”

“I don’t get it. He signed the divorce papers. What does he want with me now? That doesn’t matter anymore though.”

She pulls an envelope out of her pocket and hands it to me. “Becca gave it to me when we dropped Sadie off. I opened it when you went downstairs.”

Pulling the contents out of the envelope I see pictures of Becca working at the bakery. There are more. Some are of Momma J and Pops and then there are the ones of Sadie, Kinsley and I up at the cabin. So many good memories caught on camera used to scare her into going back to a life she hated.

  Kinsley,

There are things we must discuss. I expect to see you and our daughter back in our home within the week, for good. I would hate for anything to happen to your friends. See you by next Friday.

  Your Husband,

  Liam

“Maverick, I have to go back.”

“Fuck that!” I shout, throwing the pictures and note to the side. Crawling on my knees, I’m in front of her and grasp her face in the palms of my hands.

“You, Kinsley are fucking mine! Do you understand what that means?” She shakes her head. “Then I’ll explain it to you, so you never question me or us again.”

Brushing my thumb over her plump bottom lip, I want so badly to kiss and look her in the eyes, needing her to finally understand.

“You are my woman. That means I will protect you, including your beautiful daughter that has me wrapped around her tiny little finger. It means you let me take care of your asshole ex-husband and never worry about it again. You will never go back to him, you hear me? I love you, Kinsley.”
