All Hope Lost Page 15

by Samantha Dorrell

Kneeling beside her, I waited for her to wake. It didn’t take long, her eyelids fluttered open to see me beside her. I smiled.

“Sharon? Is that really you?” she mumbled.

“Hi Sam; yes it is me. How have you been?”

Sam, still gazing at me, pushed herself up into a sitting position on the floor. “You’re dead. You can’t be here.”

“I am dead, yes Sam, but I wanted to come and visit you. I was worried for you.”

Sam breathed in deeply. “I saw your body, Sharon. You can’t be here. Geez I must be going insane.” Sam stood up slowly and headed for one of her sofas. She flopped herself down in it.

“I’m sorry I frightened you Sam. I pulled the curtain back thinking you had killed yourself or something. I was so worried for you.”

Sam looked at me. “That was you? You’re really here?” I nodded. “But why now? You died over three months ago Sharon! I’ve missed you, and it’s all been hell ever since! I mean look at me! Look at my home! I can’t even be bothered to clean the house any more. Everything just seems so futile.” Sam slumped further into the chair.

“Sam, I’m so, so sorry. When I woke up after I was killed, I just, I was so disorientated about what happened. Then something happened and I disappeared for a while. I can’t explain it too much but I have limited energy. Showing my form like this is draining.”

“Well for goodness sake, Sharon! Don’t drain yourself for me! Just, just speak to me if you can. I would like you to stay a while. Is that ok?”

“Ok. I’m not going anywhere just yet.” I faded my form, feeling some energy return, and continued speaking with her. “So what happened after you found me? I was watching the paramedics and police, but I didn’t see it all as I disappeared for a couple of months.”

Sam nodded. “Yes, it was all so hectic. I remember it like it was yesterday. Your body haunts my dreams now and then. I have been such a mess, I lost my job.” She sniffled, I could see she was getting upset.

“Oh God, I’m so sorry Sam.” I didn’t know what else to say, I hadn’t prepared myself for such an overwhelming experience with my friend.

“Your funeral was so lovely, Sharon. A shame you have no family, but all your friends were there, and your work colleagues.”

  “Ex-work colleagues you mean.”

Sam shook her head. “Goodness you should have seen them. They were mortified about what had happened to you. One of the ladies was going to offer you a lift, she told me. She feels your death is her fault.”

I was shocked. “Oh no! I hope you told her otherwise!”

“Of course. She didn’t rape and kill you, those three thugs did!”

“And I know who they are now, and I’m going to get my revenge, Sam.” My voice was bitter.

Sam smiled grimly. “Good. Give them hell girl! And give them some from me too! Don’t hold back!”

I laughed. “Oh I won’t. I’m sorry Sam but I need to go now. Please, take care of yourself? I will be back to visit you if you like?”

Sam looked around at the mess and nodded. “You’re right Sharon. Thank you for visiting me. Hell, who would have thought ghosts exist!” She smiled to herself. “I’ll start tidying up right now. Scare the shit out of em Sharon!”

“Oh don’t you worry, I will, literally. They won’t know what hit em!” I laughed. “Bye Sam, I’ll see you again soon.”

“Bye Sharon. Miss you loads!” Sam waved at the air then started clearing away the old pizza and Chinese take-out boxes. I left her alone to continue.

I was so happy she hadn’t killed herself, I felt elated. Yes she was a mess, but hopefully my visit had helped her a little. I vowed to return soon and check up on her. Next stop though, the prison.

  CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

The prison itself was just as I had left it. I hadn’t expected it to change. The only difference now was there were different inmates out and about, hanging around the basketball court, or in their cellblock social areas. The prison guards held their posts, watching every move, cameras on the walls twisted this way and that as they kept watch over other inmates and cells.

I now had a good image in my mind of what my three guys looked like, and so I searched each cell and inmates face with care. My passing through left the inmates shivering at my touch. I could feel myself getting more and more furious at them. They will pay for what they did to me! My insides fumed, I had never felt such a rage before, and it almost frightened me, but I clung on to it, in the hope that this feeling would give me the strength of what I was about to do. As I was passing another cell, I stopped suddenly and peered in. I recognised that face. Large, squinty eyes and a goatee. It was the first rapist. I gave him no warning and using my inner strength grabbed him from behind, and slammed him into the concrete floor.

I had no idea I had this kind of power, and I liked it; I liked it a lot!

“What the fuck!?” the man cried. “Ger’off me! HELP!” I grabbed the back of his head, and slammed it against the floor.

“You fucking asshole!” I screamed at him. “You enjoy raping and murdering women do you? Well have a taste of your own medicine!”

“AAARRRGH!” he cried out as I grabbed his wrists. A guard had come over to the cell and was looking in.

“Get off the floor Banner. Stop messing about.” The guard ordered.

“HELP ME! ARRRRRGH! I pulled his wrists around the back as I sat on him and with a flick, snapped them at the joints. His scream echoed around the halls.

“Jesus F Christ!” the guard cried, and started scrambling for his radio. “Open cell C205, open cell C205, Medic required immediately!”

As the guard was attempting a rescue I rose up off the prisoner and forged myself into a fiery demon. “Back off!” I snarled at the guard. “This one is mine!”

Banner was on the floor, his eyes watering from the pain, and widened with fear at the sight of me. The guard was backing away and the cell door clicked open, the door sliding to one side. Banner screamed at him. “HELP ME HELP! SOMEONE!”

I grabbed his convict trousers and pulled them down. I knew what I was about to do was going to be extremely painful and may possibly kill him, but I didn’t care. I used a large claw and started to puncture his skin along his behind. I roared then, watching the blood start to seep out. The guard was backed up so far, I thought he might fall off over the railings. I reached up to the metal bars of the cell and snapped one free. Now for my revenge.

“Think you can get away with sticking your dick wherever you want, you little shit?”

“No, no, no, no, no, no” Banner cried out.

I snarled at him and with one swift motion, plunged all two feet of the metal rod up his ass. Banners’ eyes went so wide, one fell out from his head, and dangled from sinew and nerves. Blood streamed down the pole and onto the floor. I held him high as I stormed out of the cell, waving him like a banner. I thought it was fitting. I screamed with rage at the onlookers, who were cowering or attempting to flee. Some officers were trying to shoot me, but the bullets just dissolved into my form.

“HA HA HA HA HAAAAA! You cannot kill me! I am already dead! This piece of shit raped and killed me, and now his little friends will pay next! REVENGE is so definitely sweet!” With a flourish I lobbed Banner on the pole over the side, and watching his body fall, I vanished out of sight.

The screams coming from the inmates were deafening. The guards were trying to maintain control, but I didn’t care. Something had come over me, and I was not going to stop now. I owed myself that. I owed Sam that. A warning alarm started to sound, and all the guards started ushering the inmates into their cells.

“But it will get us! It’s gonna kill us all!” an inmate screamed. This caused the onset of panic amongst the crowd, though some did run for their cells, others tried to clamber over one another in an attempt to free themselves outside. The cell block was locked down tight though.

I headed for the next block, where they hadn’t seen the commotion, but were
being ordered back to their cells. Inmates casually lined up outside their cells, and in one swift motion, they all stepped inside on command, their doors slamming shut behind them. The guards prepared themselves for whatever might be coming in through the door. I grinned and started my patrol of the cell rows.

It didn’t take me long to find who I was looking for. It was the second man who had pierced my ass with the bottle. “Found you” I spoke through the air.

  The man looked around. “What?”

I materialised before him as myself. “Shit!”

  “Remember me?” I grinned.

“SHIT! SHIT SHIT SHIT! FUCK HELP! HELP! FUCKING GHOST IN HERE HELP!”

“Ohhhh, I don’t think so.” I waggled a finger at him, and grabbed him by the neck. He tried to grab hold of me but his arms and hands just kept on sliding through me. A guard had run up at this point and was staring,

“Get out of there this instance!” he ordered me and beckoned a guard to open the cell.

I stared at the guard then, and smiling slowly, plunged one hand into the man’s throat as he was choking, grabbed his tongue and pulled. A wet, ripping sound ensued, and the man screamed, blood curdling up in his mouth and throat. I pulled his tongue out and waved it in his face. I grinned evilly, then threw the tongue at the guard outside and disappeared.

Either the man was going to bleed to death or he would have to live without a tongue. How easy that would be I had no idea. I was hoping he would die. If he didn’t I would come back and torture him some more.

“Two down, one to go.” I spoke to the air.

I headed off again, searching the remaining cells in the block. Scarface was not here. I continued to the next block, and searched there, I could still hear the piercing cry of the man I had mutilated, and I laughed quietly to myself. I could feel myself shifting into the fiery demon again. It felt good. Oh so good but I stayed invisible for the mean time.

The next block held more cells that were all shut down with the inmates within already. The guards were looking worried. They had no idea what was about to happen. Mumbled and frantic words were being garbled over their radios. And then, I found him. Scarface was sat on his bunk reading a paper.

I entered his cell and appeared before him.

“Gary Oldham, you are guilty of my rape and murder, and will now be suitably punished.” I said it so casually that before he could speak, I had grabbed him and removed his uniform, revealing his skinny body to the world.

“What the fuck? Get off me you bitch, whatever you are!?” he cried, flailing his arms and legs about. I was not going for the limbs this time and hanging him upside down I grinned. “Like using this on the unwilling do you?” I grabbed his penis. “Not anymore.”

I wished I could have seen the look on his face when I latched my demon jaws around him and bit down hard. I pulled, bringing his penis with me, the blood spurting out of him in a torrent. Gary Oldham screamed as no man had screamed before. I spat him out, then dropping him to the ground, I force fed him his penis. He started choking and the guards had now swarmed up on his cell in shock.

“You killed the wrong woman, you shit!” I roared again and swept out of the cell. I stood there towering over the guards who were now backing off, one on his radio was shouting for help down it and a medic.

“Be this a lesson to all of ye who commit the most heinous of crimes. You will be punished!” I bellowed. Cries and whimpers of the men inside their cells were on their knees, voicing their apologies to me, to their Gods.

I laughed loudly then, and once again, I disappeared from view. I didn’t go far, I suddenly felt very tired. I knew I had overdone it, but oh my, was it worth it! I laughed to myself and shifting myself against a wall, rested my soul as the guards ran to and fro, and paramedics rushed through with stretchers and other first aid gear.

As I watched I felt myself slowly regaining the energy back. I needed to rest long enough to gain enough energy to travel back home. The outcome of my little rampage it seemed had been a success. The three men were either dead or nearly dead and those that weren’t were suffering a great deal. I smiled to myself. A good day’s work, Sharon. I hoisted myself up into a standing position, and decided that I should take a long earned break before meeting the others at Mi5.

I reached home about 20 minutes later. Michael was sat in one of the sofas eating some egg on toast, Steve was nowhere to be seen.

“Hey Sharon! Have you seen the news?”

  “No, why?” I asked.

“Seems there’s been a few incidents at the old jail this afternoon. Don’t suppose you know anything about that do you?” He gave me a questioning look.

I acted innocent. “Who me? Whatever gave you that idea!?”

Michael laughed then. “Well one, because the guards and inmates being interviewed were screaming about ghosts and demons, and also, the men that were tortured just so happened to be your murderers.”

“You know, you should be a detective with those smarts!” I smiled.

“Oh, ha ha” he replied sarcastically. “What made you do what you did? From what the reports say, they are all too gruesome to be shown on daytime TV.”

“Well, let’s just say they got their just desserts. Permanently.”

Michael nodded. “Anything else I should know?”

I shook my head. “Nothing I’m allowed to disclose I’m afraid. Sorry Michael!”

“Dammit. Worth a try though.” He gave me a cheeky grin. “So what are you up to now?”

“Well now, I am just going to rest up a little more and then I have been summoned elsewhere. I cannot say about what though, or where. I did however go see Sam earlier, my friend across the street.”

  “Oh, yeah? How is she?”

I shook my head sadly. “She’s a mess. I got over there and for a moment I thought she had killed herself. She also lost her job because of what happened. I don’t know why but I feel so guilty. But I think my visit to her cheered her up a little.”

“Good. I’m glad. I had an odd visitor by the way. I don’t think he realised I could see him though. I didn’t say anything.”

  “Oh?”

“Yeah this figure appeared in our kitchen. It wasn’t you, obviously, but he was there when I was making tea. He just appeared in a black cloak, but inside the cloak it was all stars? Does that ring any bells with you?”

I thought about it then shook my head. “Afraid not. It could be one of the higher ups keeping an eye on me. They do that apparently.”

Michael nodded. “Ok, I thought I had better check with you just in case.”

“Thanks for letting me know. I’ll go check him out later.” I smiled. “For now though, I had better get a move on! I need to borrow the laptop.” Michael opened the laptop and I hopped in. “See you later!”

  CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

Searching the web, I found the point to the Mi5 building nearby, and travelled swiftly along it. It took a few minutes to reach there, but at the other end, I recognised the building. Now all I had to do was get inside and find the right room.

I headed inside. The building was huge, the entrance was guarded and had walk-through sensors. People were coming and going with ease but I didn’t have a clue about this place. I looked around and decided to follow someone. I followed after a lady in a well fitted suit, carrying a laptop, who arrived at the entrance to numerous lifts. The doors pinged open and I walked in with her and a few other people. The lift quickly became full, and in doing so, I was forced to stand inside people, making them shiver and moan about the faulty air con. People got off, and others got on as we headed upwards. Finally on the fifth floor, the lady stepped off, so I followed her. She headed off towards a group of desks and so left me wondering where to go next.

I decided to head to the nearest corridor. Surely there must be signs in this place? I thought. As I made my way through a doorway into a corridor I spotted a wall map. Scanning it, I pin pointed my place in the building and continued upwards. I wasn
t sure which room I had to go too, but I was sure there would be others around that could help.

Reaching the top floor I turned right and strolled down the corridor. A few people came and went but then I found myself alone at a junction. Hallways headed off in all directions, doors everywhere. I closed my eyes for a moment, wondering why they had to pick such a ridiculous building to meet in, when I heard my name.

“Sharon over here!” a male voice sounded. I opened my eyes, locating the source. I found Alex waving at me. “Good, you made it. We were wondering what had happened to you, then we saw the news!” His words were spilling out faster than he could keep up. He looked excited but also worried.

  “Are you ok? What happened?”

I waved him off. “Why do you think that was me?” I asked.

“Well it’s pretty obvious who it was, don’t you think?”

I shrugged. “I needed my revenge. I got it.” I had to keep it short. I really didn’t want to get into the gory details now.

“The reporters can’t even show the images of what you did, they are too explicit! Damn I wish I could have seen that!”

I grimaced and Alex was grinning from ear to ear. “We better get inside, see what all the fuss is about, eh.”

Alex led me through the door and into a packed room full of people; or were they all Daemon’s? We found a seat and saw Robert standing with three other senior staff at the front of the room. Robert waved his arms and spoke. “People, people, quiet please now.” He let his arms drop as we faced the front. “Now most of you know why we are here, but for those who do not, it is of the utmost importance that you relay none of what you are about to see and hear to anyone. This is why you all had so sign the NDA. I’ll now introduce you to these two fine folks. The lady here is Mrs Rathcombe, and she is a Daemon, like yourselves. The man next to her is Mr Harpen, er, I mean, Dr Harpen. Dr Harpen is not a physician, but a psychiatrist, and will be on hand for anyone that may lose themselves in the oncoming events. Are you all with me so far?”
