“All right, now. The wedding gown can be the something borrowed. Next we need something new.” Caroline snapped her fingers and glanced around the circle. “What do we have people? Help me out.”
“I have something old and Amanda’s wearing it on her ring finger. We’ll trust you to bring the rest,” Dante said, checking his watch. “Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’ll meet you at Barney’s in two hours. And,” he said, turning and giving them a grin, “you’re all standing up for us, you know. Bring your kids, if they can stay up that late,” he told Hannah and Dylan. “All for one and one for all. Keeping it in the family.”
Dylan laughed. “Is that one of your soccer slogans?”
“Si,” Dante said with a grin, “and it works every bit as well for Team Starlight.” With the excited buzz from their friends ringing in their ears, he walked back up the stairs with Amanda. “Come with me,” he said, heading out the front doors of the church.
He pulled her close and kissed her long and slow. Amanda couldn’t imagine a greater place to be this side of Heaven, nestled in the arms of the man she loved. They finally parted, and he kissed the top of her head, tightening his hold. Claiming her, protecting her. Thank you, Lord.
“I don’t think I’ll ever be cold again,” she whispered, leaning her head on his chest, loving how his arms found their way around her. “God knew our perfect fit, didn’t He?” She lifted her head to the twilight of the evening, so tranquil in its serenity. “Star light, star bright,” she said, shifting in his arms.
“First star I’ve seen tonight,” he said, mirroring her and lifting his gaze heavenward.
“I wish I may,” she said. “I wish I might.”
“He’s definitely granting the wish I have tonight,” Dante whispered against her hair.
“There’s a lot of unknowns ahead,” Amanda said with a prolonged sigh, “but we’ll need to trust Him to work out the details.”
“No doubt in my mind He will. We’ll be fine.” He moved his warm lips to her temple. “We’ve got the greatest One of all on our team, you know.”
“Si, my shining star,” she whispered. “Always. Ti amo, Dante.”
“Ti amerò per sempre, Amanda.”
