  “What about my memories, are they real?”

  “No. Most of them were implanted. Downloaded into your mind’s mainframe.”

  She ripped herself away from the conversation, wondering what was happening with the rest of the group. The thought of Jas, Marcus or any of the others being hurt played heavily on her mind. She started to wriggle on the bed, pulling on her restraints again.

  “What happened to Judd?” she asked, her features emotionless.

  “He’s awaiting execution. Why do you care so much?”

  “So, you had no intention of imprisoning him? Was there even a trial?”

  “No, no trial...and you haven’t answered my question? Why do you care so much?”

  She looked at the man, but didn’t answer. He seemed thoughtful, but he remained silent. Hyde took a deep breath to cleanse her senses before asking her mysterious captor one final question.

  “What will happen to me after these people have taken what they need from me?”

  “I have only been sent to explain why you are here. I can’t answer your question, sorry.”

  Filled with fear and unease for the unknown, Hyde laid her head back on the pillow and stared at the corrugated iron ceiling. She clenched her hands into fists and drew a deep breath, wondering why something of such significance had been kept from her all these years.
