“What if we find some things at a yard sale?” She suddenly asked brightly. Paulina then had to explain the concept of a yard sale to Cobalt.
Despite the fact that there was a new world of vocabulary to learn, he still felt rather excited. He proposed ordering pizza to celebrate leaving the danger behind them.
“That sounds like something I could get behind. We’ll have to order small pizzas or only a couple of large ones. Which would you prefer?” She kept an eye on the money they had. She had cashed out and closed her bank account to prevent people from following them.
“Large pizzas. More for the money. Especially if you can find a coupon online.” This suggestion meant logging into the free wireless Internet.
The rest of the evening was spent in quiet gratitude. As they ate and got ready for bed, he couldn’t help but look forward to the future. For the first time in his long life, he felt as though tomorrow would hold something better than today had, and more splendid than he would’ve dreamt of yesterday. He had someone who loved him at his side. He had a wonderful place to live.
For once in his life, he didn’t dread the new day. Instead, he looked forward to it. This time, things would be different.
