Magic and Mayhem: The Witched Away Bride (Kindle Worlds Novella) (The Witch Singer Book 3) Page 5

by Heather Long

This was what happily ever after was like—happy every damn day, even when we struggled or had to take on the problems of friends. We did it together.

I let the last note fall away as Gigi took Kirk’s outstretched hand, and then—poof—Baba Yaga stood next to me.

“Damn girl, that was tear-worthy. You totally St. Elmos Fire’d that.”

Laughing quietly, I gave Baba Yaga’s shoulder a bump. I wouldn’t have done that the first time I met her, but today? She was as much there as a friend and fairy godmother as she was Witch Enforcer. “I’m really happy for them.”

“You are,” Baba Yaga agreed. “You’re also happy for you, and I’m thrilled for everything you’ve done here. Are you and Martin really going to open a school?”

We’d talked about it. Martin was a damn fine teacher and I…well, I wanted to revel in music and teaching young witches, Shifters and more to love music was a lot better than being a lounge lizard. “Yes, ma’am. Not sure where yet, but we’re definitely going to do it.”

“Yeah, I might know a little something about something.” Baba Yaga said, but her gaze fixed on Kirk and Gigi as they finally kissed, sealing their union. A pulse of pure love exploded from them and rolled through the guests and wider, out to the whole town.

It carried a distinctive taste of passion and lust along with it.

“It’s going to be a wild night,” Baba Yaga continued finally, and then she looked at me. “Bridget, you know the answer you came here to find. You’ve known it since the day the vampires tasked you with the search.”

“There’s no cure.” Of course there wasn’t a cure. There couldn’t be one. I sighed.

“Nope, and those idiots know it. But it’s not your problem anymore. The debt you owed them is gone and more than a year and a day has passed. They can’t come for you no matter what.”

  I blinked. “What?”

“You’re free.” Baba Yaga smiled at me. “You always were—you just had to believe it, and in yourself. You had to find that rare gift you have, the need to give to others and to see them flourish and you have…so toodles!”

  Then she was gone.

I had my answer, but more than that I was free.

  Wait.

Pivoting, I found Martin striding toward me. I couldn’t stop grinning. We were free to be with each other, to keep building our happily ever after. Whooping, I dashed forward, my red dress swirling as Martin scooped me into his arms and spun me around.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, was how I knew—our song would never end.

  TATA FOR NOW,

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

USA Today bestselling author, Heather Long, likes long walks in the park, science fiction, superheroes, Marines, and men who aren’t douche bags. Her books are filled with heroes and heroines tangled in romance as hot as Texas summertime. From paranormal historical westerns to contemporary military romance, Heather might switch genres, but one thing is true in all of her stories—her characters drive the books. When she’s not wrangling her menagerie of animals, she devotes her time to family and friends she considers family. She believes if you like your heroes so real you could lick the grit off their chest, and your heroines so likable, you’re sure you’ve been friends with women just like them, you’ll enjoy her worlds as much as she does.
