Saving Morgan Page 24

Morgan told her story, leaving Shaine gaping in wonder. “I can’t believe you went out to fix the ship. Morgan, that’s insane. Incredibly brave and heroic, but seriously insane.”

“Seemed like the thing to do at the time.”

Shaine shook her head. It sounded like something that she’d have said. Her heart ached with emotions—pride, admiration, love. Maybe you really are brave enough not to run screaming from me. But are you brave enough to want to stay? After all you’ve been through, is there still a chance for us?

Morgan ran gentle fingers along Shaine’s jaw and cupped her cheek. “You’re thinking too hard, baby.” She kissed her on the lips.

Shaine leaned in to trace Morgan’s lower lip with her tongue, feeling the passion spark between them as she gained entrance, exploring deeply, losing herself in the warmth and taste of Morgan’s mouth. She felt dizzy with the rush of need and wanting and pulled back only because she needed to breathe. She leaned her forehead against Morgan’s. God, I hope you need me as much as I need you.

Morgan sighed and cuddled against her, wrapping an arm around her stomach. Shaine covered Morgan’s arm with hers and closed her eyes, soaking up the closeness.

  “Hey, Morgan?”

  “Yeah?”

“What are you going to do now?”

  “What do you mean?”

“Well, are you going to go back to Moon Base? Or stay here? Or—” She wanted to ask if she’d be part of Morgan’s future, but wasn’t sure if she should.

Morgan traced abstract patterns on her stomach. “I’ll go back to Moon Base,” she said decisively. “That’s where my life is, where my dad is. I’ll probably stay in contact with Maruchek and Garren, but I don’t belong here.” She met her gaze. “What about you?”

“I want to go back to Moon Base, try to pick up my life where I left off.”

Morgan grinned. “Good. Then we can pick up our lives together, huh?”

Shaine studied Morgan’s face, trying to read her intentions. “Me and you? Together?”

“Absolutely. If you’re up for it?”

Shaine couldn’t have stopped her grin if she tried. Relief flowed over her in waves. “Absolutely.”
