“Of course you can learn how, but what about the store?”
“I’ll tell you all about it when we get home.”
After settling comfortably on the sofa in front of the roaring flames of the fireplace, Gus turned to Lily and kissed her gently on the cheek. “Now then, what do you plan to do about the store?”
Lily smiled. “I sold my half back to Charles. With the money—and your approval, of course—I’d like to start a store here in Hunter’s Grove.”
“Here? What kind of a store?”
“A much needed clothing store. Charles will help me get it started.”
“But you said you wanted to learn how to be a rancher’s wife,” Gus said, sounding a tad disappointed.
“I do. I'll own the store, but Mandy will run it. Of course, I haven’t asked her yet, but she has no current income, so I am sure she’ll accept. I would like to have an administrative role in the store, but I wouldn’t have to be there as much. Once Mandy's trained, she’d pretty much run it.”
“Since I haven’t told you the latest news yet, I think you’ll still have to ask Mandy. She's betrothed to James, she may not want to run the store.”
“Oh! I’m so happy for her! She finally found love. And James! I’m so excited. But if she doesn’t want to run the store, we’ll find someone else. I’m not worried, because the reins of my life are now in God’s hands.”
“I’m glad.” Gus kissed her lightly, then added, “Mandy and James will be living in the cottage.”
“Perfect. I'll be able to visit her often.”
Gus smiled. “I should have asked you this before we married, but I have to ask now: do you want children?”
Lily put her arms around his neck and snuggled close to him. “I never thought I wanted children, but if they're half yours, of course I want them.”
“Then,” Gus said, kissing her neck and nibbling on her earlobe. “I think we should get busy working on that project as soon as we can.”
“Oh, I agree!” Lily stood and pulled Gus toward the bedroom.
