Chocolate Pie Murder : Kim’s Cozy Mystery - Book 1 (Kim’s Cozy Mystery series) Page 3

by Tom Soule

Jasmine became numb to everything; she slipped out of the ball, quietly so as not to be noticed. She felt like a knife had been rammed in her heart, the blood draining out. Jasmine knew the war was lost.

Why does she get everything? Jasmine thought as the flood of tears rushed down her cheeks. It took 10 minutes for the cab to arrive. In the cab, she made up her mind to head back to New York. She desperately wanted to feel support, to have someone at her side. Jasmine only had one true friend—Sally. The thought of Sally was a shining light in a world of sadness.

Back at the motel, Jasmine rustled the door open. The room was eerily quiet. Jasmine called out for Sally, but Sally didn’t respond. Suddenly, she spotted a motionless, unresponsive Sally passed out in the bathroom.

“Help me, someone, help me,” Jasmine screamed. A few doors down, a neighbor heard her cries and ran to offer his support. The man quickly moved into action; he got into his old van with Jasmine and drove to the veterinarian’s office. Having a little experience in veterinarian training, Jasmine was in too much shock to even look at Sally for fear of what she would find. The vet’s office was closed, but the light was on in the back room. The neighbor continuously knocked until someone would answer. The very upset doctor came to the door and saw the unresponsive dog. The anger melted from the vet’s face; his only thought was to save the dog.

The doctor didn’t need to go too far though because Sally was long gone. Sally had no pulse. Jasmine looked like death while the doctor tried to talk to her. The only friend she had left had just died. She felt like she was on a roller-coaster of hell. While the neighbor was driving her back, they passed the Johnson Resort. With nothing left to lose, she asked the neighbor to drop her off there.

“Look, lady, unless you have a friend here, I think you should go back to the motel,” the neighbor insisted.

“I am going to get my friend back,” Jasmine replied. She was still dressed in the blue chiffon, the dress now full of sweat. Her hair was equally disheveled. She was not in her right mind.

Jasmine marched toward the front desk and demanded if they knew where Sam was. The front desk pointed to a gentlemen’s room. She frantically made her way over, marched up the stairs, and closed the door behind her.

Six minutes later, someone was frantically crying out for someone to call the police. They quickly had arrived and secured the entire building. Someone had found a girl dead and bloody. News of the death sent shockwaves throughout the resort. Which girl had died? In response to the news, Stacy quickly tried to locate her friends, but was stopped by cops who wanted everyone to stay put. Stacy soon spotted Sharon who was coming from an upstairs room, escorted by the cops. Feeling a bit relieved, Stacy wondered about Kim? She saw Sam with Mayor Johnson, but there was still no sign of Kim. A scary reality started to take shape: could it be Kim? Everyone else was present and accounted for. Only Kim was missing.

At that time, the police were still questioning people, but had decided to move the body. Kim was still missing. When the coroner moved the body, a brunette head started to show. The relief that Stacy felt was revitalizing. Kim was blond. The police started to allow people who had already given statements to the police to leave.

From the lawn of the resort, Stacy overheard the name of the victim: Jasmine Giles. Stacy was stunned. With Kim gone and Jasmine dead…

It can’t be… Stacy thought. Could it?

  To be continued….
