My Baby Is a West Coast King 2 Page 14

As I listened to my music, I couldn’t stop looking over him. I missed him so much, even though I’d tried my hardest not to. Outside of him cheating on me, he was so perfect to me; yes, even with his anger problems. I knew him, he was a sweet guy when he wanted to be, it was just best not to fuck with him. I was the same way, just a bit toned down.

“Thinking hard?” I pulled one of my headphones out.

Without looking at me, he simply shook his head ‘no’, before bringing the cup of apple juice he’d ordered to his sexy lips and sipping. His free hand gravitated to my thigh, and his fingertips gently drummed against the inner area; something he always did when he was in deep thought. I usually would have moved it, but his touch felt good, and it was something that had become normal for us.

I listened to music and he stared out of the window, and just like a nigga, he repeatedly got refills on his juice whenever he ran out, until the plane was landing. When it was time to get off, he wouldn’t let me get my own bag, so once he got it down, we left out to baggage claim.

“I umm, have to go to my grandmother’s and you can’t come,” I said once we got outside of the airport.

“I’m going wherever you go.” He looked off into the dark, watching hotel shuttles and taxis drive by. “And ain’t your uncle there? Yeah, he is. I wanna meet him.”

It was like he said the last part to himself, because he didn’t even look at me as he spoke.

I simply sighed and moved the handle of my big suitcase up and down as he ordered an Uber on his iPhone. After bickering for a few moments, I finally gave him my grandmother’s address so he could complete the order. I couldn’t stand his ass. And now, I was about to have to witness him fuck up my uncle.

Only about five minutes passed before the driver pulled up in a champagne colored van, smiling and shit like he was excited to work. He greeted us and helped Mischief put the bags up, and we were on our way. Once we arrived to my grandmother’s, it was about 10:50pm, so I knew she was probably asleep and Uncle Ernie wasn’t. I was not ready for Mischief to meet him, and for the police to be called. I just fucking got here!

When we made it to the door, I looked over my shoulder at Mischief, trying to stall before slipping my key into the knob. When we made eye contact, he nodded towards the doorknob as to tell me to come on and open it. When I did, to my surprise, the living room light was on, and the smell of food slapped me in the face. Also, Uncle Ernie didn’t have his bum ass plastered to the couch, with beer cans lining the coffee table and a fresh one clutched in his ashy hands.

“Laine?” my grandma called from the kitchen as I let Mischief in behind me. She came rushing out wearing one of her old dusty dresses she loved, wiping her hands on her apron.

  “Ma, it’s almost eleven o’clock.”

“I know, but I knew you were getting in late so I had a good nap and some coffee so I’d be awake for you.” She stared up at Mischief the whole time she talked.

“Shai,” he smiled widely, looking adorable as ever as he reached his hand down to her.

“Shai, nice to meet you, sweetheart. Dinner is almost ready but I don’t know if I made enough to feed you. You’re a big man,” she grinned as we all laughed. “I’m just messing with you, Paul Bunyan,” she joked, and Mischief and I just laughed, even though I believe neither of us knew who Paul Bunyan was.

  “Ma, where is Ernie?”

“He’s out of town on business.”

“Business?” I exclaimed. My uncle Ernie’s ass print was embedded in the couch because he never left it, so hearing that he’d gone away on some sort of business had me flabbergasted. He must have found some scam to run; it was the only time he left the apartment.

“Same thing I said, child.” She walked back off into the kitchen.

“Cozy,” Mischief nodded as he sat down on the couch and looked around.

“Yeah, it reminds me of how good life was to me before my uncle came to live with us. He’d been in jail the whole time.”

“He lucked up fasho. I was gonna beat his ass when I saw him,” he spoke calmly, typing something on his phone as if he wasn’t speaking of a violent act. That was Mischief for you.

“Well thank God he’s not here.”

“Does your grandma know you’re broken up?”

“What?” I laughed. “Don’t you mean we’re broken up?”

“Nah, you’re still my girlfriend, and I’m your man over this way. But in your mind, you think you’re single so there ain’t no we in that.”

“You’re for real crazy, you know that?”

“I do. But I’m even crazier about yo’ ass. Think about that,” he cheesed. Why was he so damn adorable, but fine at the same time?

“Shut up,” I playfully rolled my eyes.

We ate dinner with my grandma, and call me crazy, but I was sure she had a crush on him. And I’d never seen him act like a little adorable boy before, but he did with her and she loved it. The whole dinner I kind of just watched them, only chiming in here and there, or laughing. It was good… great actually.

“Well, I guess Shai can go to a hotel, right, Ma?”

“No, of course not. The couch is a pullout, or you can come sleep in my bed,” she winked and then laughed as Mischief stood there grinning like a fool. Really, Ma? “No, I have a blow-up bed if you’d like to sleep in Laine’s room.”

“Ma, I could never have boys in my room when I lived here.”

“Yes, but that was because I wanted you to stay pure. I already know what you’re doing with him. I don’t blame you. Goodnight, sweetie.” She kissed my cheek. She had to have been drunk. “And goodnight, good looking.”

Mischief lifted her hand to kiss it, and she smiled widely before prancing out.

“I’ll get the blow-up bed out of the closet for you.”

I left the kitchen and Mischief followed me, then grabbed my ass roughly, and kissed my neck as I reached into the closet to retrieve the deflated blow-up bed.

“Damn, I miss hitting,” he spoke lowly, almost like he didn’t intend for me to hear.

“Too bad, and keep your hands to yourself, nigga.”

We went into my bedroom, and he closed the door as I flattened the bed out onto my floor. I wasn’t even sure if the bed would be able to completely expand in my bedroom, but I was gonna give it a try.

“Damn, there was no way I could fit in this bed lengthwise,” he laughed, and pressed down on my horrible squeaky mattress. For some reason, I was embarrassed by it.

“I know. You may be too long for this one too, but that’s why you should have gone to a hotel. Move, Shai.” I felt him get behind me on the floor, before his hands wrapped around my body and his lips touched the space between my neck and shoulder.

“I’m tired of being broken up,” he spoke lowly, still kissing my neck and groping me. He was so damn strong, and not easy to just pull yourself from.

“That’s too bad. You should have given it some thought before you slept with that stripper.”

“You serious? Who the fuck thinks before they do some shit like that? If I was thinking and not under the influence, it probably would have never happened.” He rose to his feet and sat on my little weak bed, which was probably crying from his heavy ass.

“Probably wouldn’t have happened? Asshole. And plenty of people think before they cheat, mainly women. We weigh our options and decide if this new guy is worth our relationship, and usually if we’re thinking about it, that means our current man ain’t doing his job anyway. So yes, people do think.”

“That’s the difference between men and women though, baby. Women cheat with men that they possibly want to move on to, and usually because their boyfriends or husbands aren’t doing what they’re supposed to on the home front. Niggas on the other hand? We just want to fuck that bitch at that time. It has nothing to do with our girlfriend or wife. We don’t weigh our options because we already know we’d never leave what we have for the bitch in front of us; she’s just some pussy.”

“Well that’s too bad because now you’ve ruined a relationship that could have been something. Fucking bed!” I stood up and kicked it. When I did, the pump finally started working, inflating the bed.

That was when I noticed Mischief hadn’t replied to my last statement, so I looked over my shoulder at him. He looked defeated, but I could tell he was trying to hide his emotions. However, he wasn’t successful like he usually was. I believed he loved me and that he knew he’d made a mistake, but I wanted a relationship with someone who could be faithful to me from day one.

“I’m gonna go take a shower. If you want to take one after me, I will set some towels out for you.”

No response. He just pulled his phone out, which had a plethora of emails, texts, and Instagram DMs on the lock screen, and started typing away.

I went to the bathroom after taking what I needed from my suitcase. I locked the bathroom door because I didn’t want Mischief trying anything. I scrubbed my body and then washed it, before getting out and covering my damp body in my maple scented butter. I brushed, flossed, and rinsed, then pulled on some panties and my spaghetti strapped nightgown. It was short as hell, but I hadn’t planned for Mischief to come with me, and I expected my uncle to be locked outside of my room.

I grabbed two towels for Mischief, and walked into the bedroom to see him removing his hoodie. I could see his chiseled body even through the wife-beater and white t-shirt on top. His small gold chain rested against his pecks, and I got wet upon seeing his tatted, muscular, deep caramel arms move across his chest when he yawned.

“Here.” I stuck my arms out to him and he took it from me.

Once he left the bedroom with his things, I checked my underwear to make sure I hadn’t done any damage to them upon seeing Mischief partially undress. When I saw I was good, I climbed under the covers and grabbed my phone to see Rico had texted me.

I told his ass I would talk to him when I got back. And why was he up anyway? I knew we were two hours ahead over here, but it was still late in California too.

I texted him for a little while, and almost jumped out of my skin when Mischief came back into the bedroom. I don’t know why, but I deleted the text thread between Rico and I, and then put my phone faced down like them lying ass cheating niggas do.

Mischief said nothing as he put his things up, wearing only a towel wrapped around his waist, bulge very noticeable. Water droplets graced his perfect body, making his gang affiliated tattoos, abs, and chest more apparent. Or maybe I was just horny. I hadn’t had him in ages.

“I brought blankets and a pillow for you.”

He simply nodded and removed his towel to grab his boxers. His eyes immediately caught mine as he slipped them on, giving me a full view of what he was working with.

No more words were exchanged, so once he got onto the blow-up bed with his feet hanging off, I laughed for a little bit before turning the lamp off. It was quiet, with only the sound of my faint chuckling at the thought of his ass on that small bed.

About thirty minutes of silence passed before he said, “Come down here with me.”

“No, nigga. I don’t know why you insist on—”

  “Get down here.”

Even though I had bass in my voice and attitude laced in my tone, his calm dry response still outranked me. I exhaled heavily as if I didn’t even want to be near him, and then got down onto the blow-up bed with him. It was dark as hell, and the only light we had was from my old alarm clock, and the sliver of light shining through the cracks of the door.

“What?” I asked as soon as I was comfortable.

“Stop talking for a second. Bumping ya damn gums too much. I just wanna look at you for a second. I hate when women have unnecessary attitude, and that’s not you, so please spare me.”

I rolled my eyes and just sat there as he adjusted himself on his side to examine my face. With every move he made, the scent of his body wash hit me, and I wasn’t complaining. I gasped when he moved over by me and laid his head on my stomach, letting his big hand travel up my short nightgown and grip my ass, before running back down to my thigh.

  “I’m sorry, baby.”

I swallowed hard, and let my hand caress his fresh fade.

  “I know.”

  “Then what’s the problem?”

“I don’t want a relationship that people are calling me stupid for being in, and I want someone I can trust. I don’t want to be with a guy who thinks he can do whatever he wants and then expects me to forgive him after a day or two.”

“It’s been months. And half these bitches out here are with niggas that are having babies on them and fucking a new bitch every night, Laine. And don’t even mention Brooke because I already told you I never hit that hoe.”

“That doesn’t mean that I don’t deserve someone who would cherish what we have enough to not cheat on me.”

He picked his head up and pressed his chin into my stomach while his hand moved up and down my thigh. Looking up into my eyes, he said, “Laine, please. I’ve never begged for shit, but I’m legit begging yo’ ass right now. Just one more try.” He lifted my gown and pressed his soft full lips against my body, making me shiver. He made sure to put his lips against the ‘M’ hanging from my belly ring. “It won’t be a relationship riddled with bullshit, I promise.”

I picked his head up so that he’d stop kissing my stomach, and so I could look into his eyes. My mind kept going back and forth between deciding to forgive him versus just leaving the relationship. I wanted to be with him badly, and I knew my love for him wouldn’t die any time soon because it was still just as strong as it was before we broke up. I guess he’d made a bigger impression on me than Tarik did.

“Okay,” I whispered. His lips parted and his eyes scanned mine, like he was trying to see if I was serious or not.

  “Okay?”

I nodded and he immediately climbed between my legs and lowered himself onto me to kiss my lips. When I felt his hands rub upward and grope my breasts, I stopped him. I could feel his hard dick threatening to burst through his bottoms.

“Who else did you sleep with while we were apart?”

  “Laine.”

  “Tell me.”

Sighing, he said, “This girl named Sekoyah and then Aspen. Only once for both though since we’ve been broken up. I fucked Sekoyah before us, and then once after us.”

“So we need to get tested then before we have sex.”

“What? I used a condom and—”

“I got chlamydia even though Tarik used a condom, Shai. So either we can go to the clinic, or we will be in a sexless relationship.”

He fell to the side of me and sighed heavily. I laughed seeing that his dick was super hard under his boxers and about to poke through.

“Aight, but we going to get that shit tomorrow and I’m hitting in the bathroom once we get the paper back.”

“Deal,” I laughed as he turned his back to me. “You’re mad?” I taunted him, hugging his body from behind.

“I won’t be if you let me eat your pussy.”

“No!” I chuckled and nuzzled my face into his back, which was surprisingly soft and smelled so damn good. I closed my eyes to bask; I missed the little things.

Silence took over the room as we started to drift off, and suddenly the blow-up bed collapsed under us, sending us both into a fit of laughter.

“You can’t do shit right,” he groaned as I continued to chortle loudly.

  Mischief

  The next morning…

I woke up on that flat ass blow up bed, feeling the same way I did when I got jumped into my gang. I low-key felt like Laine had whooped my ass while I was asleep. I wouldn’t put that shit past her at all.

“Shit,” I mumbled, sitting up and looking around Laine’s room. She wasn’t in here, so she must have been in the kitchen or something with her grandmother, because I could hear two people having a conversation.

I grabbed what I needed from my bag, groaning here and there from my
back, before going into the bathroom to relieve myself, brush my teeth, and shower again. I got dressed in Laine’s room, keeping it simple with dark jeans, a wife beater, white t-shirt on top, red socks, and red chucks. I pulled my small chain from under my shirt so it could rest against my chest, and then put on my watch before walking out into the living room.

Laine was dressed already in yellow. She knew I loved the way that color looked against her deep golden complexion. Her wavy hair was down, sweeping the top of her shoulders, and I saw she put the necklace back on that I gave her.

“Are you hungry? My grandmother is making French toast.” She set her mug on the coffee table, which had a straw in it like always. She didn’t want to stain her teeth because being a model, she had to stay in top-notch condition, teeth included. Her words exactly.

“Of course.” I came and sat next to her, and then laid her down in my lap. Looking up at me, she smiled softly, before caressing the side of my face. “I didn’t forget. As soon as we finish eating, we up outta here to the clinic.”

  “That’s fine,” she giggled.

“Good morning, good looking.” Her grandmother came out smiling, holding her thin hips.

“Good morning, beautiful,” I grinned, and she blushed as Laine rolled her eyes and laughed. “Well come eat breakfast you two.”

After eating breakfast, Laine and I left to some clinic that she said she’d been to before. Laine went in first, and then when I came in behind her, I noticed some dude stop in his tracks and make an about face before going back to sit down next to some bucket head ass hoe. I thought nothing of it as Laine and I approached the counter where some ugly light-skinned bitch with them long ass nails and greasy curly hair was popping on her gum all unprofessionally.

“Yes?” she raised her brow, blowing a bubble and shuffling some papers.

“Hello to you too,” Laine snapped. “We’re here to get tested.”

The ugly light-skinned girl looked up at me, and had the nerve to give me a smile that I’m sure she thought brought all the niggas to the yard. I immediately flashed her a look of disgust out of reflex, but that didn’t faze her one bit.
