It's Grim Up North (Book 1): It's Grim Up North Page 11

by Wilkinson, Sean

We learned that they were part of a larger group of around thirty people, mostly men, who were holed up in a large old warehouse on the outskirts of Amble. Inside they’d set up a kind of tent city. Apparently the building had a large courtyard and both were surrounded by a large wall. A large garage in the corner of the courtyard had in it enough food to last them months.

We also learned they were dangerous and offered ‘protection’ to other small groups in the locality. They took from them whatever they wanted. Clothes, water, food, flesh. ‘So you’re fucking rapists?’ Darren fumed.

‘No,’ they answered in unison. ‘We were holed up in the yacht club building with our families before they came. They killed our parents and took us to the compound around a week ago. They keep us and a few others locked in a shed until they need us. We’re used to ferry them around in the sail boats or to take them fishing.’

They told us there was a pecking order in this new draconian society. The biggest and meanest of them had first pickings on food and women.

I turned and looked at Darren. His face a mask of fury and revenge!

  Darren had a new mission!

  To be continued...
