Giving up was something I never intended to do. If I couldn’t find a local attorney willing to help me, I would broaden my search a little and look in the entire state. I also searched only for lawyers who were known for having success in winning high-profile clients in which the defendant was presumed guilty. All of my searches and reviews kept coming back to one man: Nolan Retter out of Tucson, Arizona.
Nolan Retter was a name I was already familiar with. I can’t believe I didn’t think of him right off the bat! Whenever there is any kind of high-profile case in Arizona, you can find him on the television crime discussion shows, giving his insight from the defense point of view. Women like Nancy Grace love to tell him how wrong he is to defend his clients, whom she feels should be found guilty without the benefit of a trial. He always stands his ground though and states that people like her are exactly why America has a justice system.
I called his office and explained my situation to his paralegal. I was expecting to have to message passed off and was surprised when I was patched through directly to him. I told him the same story that I had been telling all of the other attorneys. The difference was, he was able to see right through everything.
“Miss Wheeler, I’ve been practicing law for a long time and I can just tell when someone isn’t being straight with me. Something about what you’re telling me doesn’t pass the smell test.”
“You’re right, I’m not telling you everything but that’s simply because I’m trying to make sure that the person I hire is not working for the other side. There’s a lot of crooked people involved in this case. A lot of crooked people that will be doing everything they can to make sure they don’t get exposed.”
“You see, that’s exactly the kind of thing that intrigues me. Miss Wheeler, I work for one person and one person only and that’s the client that hires me. If you look at any of my past cases, you will see that I’ve blown the lid of lots of corruption and things of that nature. If I was on the take, it would have come to light by now. I’m willing to offer my services but before I can quote you a price, I really need to know what this case is about.”
I thought about it for a minute and realized he was right. If there was an example of a lawyer who worked for his client and no one else, it would be him.
“Okay, I’m trying to find representation for a man who is wanted for murder. He’s a member of the Coyotes of Mayhem motorcycle club. He’s wanted for killing a member of the Aces of Anarchy. It’s been all over the news.”
“Oh yes, I’ve seen it.”
“Here’s the thing. The guy that he’s wanted for murdering isn’t dead. He’s alive. We saw him outside of Scottsdale yesterday. He’s afraid the cops and the Aces are working together to frame him. He doesn’t just need legal representation. He needs to prove his innocence.”
“You see Miss Wheeler, that’s the kind of case I can get behind. My retainer is $15,000. As soon as it’s in my office, I can get started. I’m going to send you over to my secretary who will tell you how to wire the retainer. As soon as it’s been paid, call the office and make sure you’re boyfriend is available. We’ll need to act on this fast.”
The hopeful feeling I had before making the phone calls had been replaced with the feeling of defeat. There was no way I was going to be able to come up with $15,000 to pay his retainer fee. I had spent all the disposable money I had on the cruise. I didn’t know what I was going to do but I knew I had to get out of my house and over to Beast as soon as possible.
CHAPTER 15
BEAST
The day was going by so fucking slow. I felt like I was in the middle of a war, each side waiting for the other to make the first move. I knew that wasn’t the way it was. There were plenty of people out there actively looking for me and they were all willing to flush me out in any way they could. I wondered how much manpower they were putting into trying to find me. If I had to bet, I would guess I had the local pigs checking into me along with a variety of feds. That doesn’t count all of the people who were unofficially looking for me like the Aces. I wondered if any of the fine government agencies would face any kind of reprimand when it was discovered they were putting all of their efforts into finding someone who didn’t even commit a crime. Who was I kidding? Of course they wouldn’t. It was a nice thought, though.
As I sat in the basement, all I could do was think. There was no television, no radio, no computer, nothing at all to occupy my time or my mind. It wasn’t something I was used to. I’m accustomed to a lifestyle that;s fast-paced and always moving. I’ve been involved with my club for my entire adult life so this sit-around-and-wait bullshit was very new to me and I didn’t like it. The longer I sat there, there more certain I was that I was going to go out of my damned mind. This has got to be what a fucking caged animal feels like. I hate those assholes who leave animals locked up or chained to trees. It felt like the fucking walls were trying to close in on me. In my mind, I was getting my first experience of what prison would be like if I didn’t get all of my shit straightened out. The only difference was the fact that the basement was much bigger than any jail cell ever was.
Just when I was beginning to think I wasn’t going to be able to take the silence and stillness anymore, the door at the top of the stairs opened. At first I froze, not knowing who was about to come down. For all I knew, the cops were onto me and knew exactly where I was. I let out a sigh of relief when I saw that it was Paige. I stood up from the sofa bed as she ran into my arms. Never in my life had I been so happy to see someone.
Paige turned to her friend and asked her if she could give us a minute to discuss some things. Ashley obliged and told her that she would be upstairs if we needed anything. As soon as the door at the top of the stairs closed, she lifted her skirt to show me that she wasn’t wearing any panties. That was all I needed to see. My cock started throbbing instantly, and I could feel the pre-cum already pulling at the head of my dick. God damn, I need to be inside her. I stripped off my pants fucking fast and sat down on the couch, pulling Paige right on top of me. She was just as eager as I was as she grabbed my rod by the base and slid it inside of her. Knowing we could get caught at any minute, she rode me as hard and fast as she could. I raised her shirt and sucked on her nipples while her wet pussy rocked back and forth over me. When she started to cum, she moaned fucking loud. That’s right babe, cum all over my cock. I pounded into her as deep as I could as I covered her mouth with my hand so we didn’t get busted. Once I got her rocks off, I sunk my fingers into her hips and bounced her up and down on me until I filled her hole with a hot load. After I finished draining my balls into her, she wrapped her arms around my neck, looked down at me and grinned while biting her bottom lip.
“That was fucking hot,” she said, trying to catch her breath.
“With you, it’s always fucking hot babe,” I replied.
She slid off me and I grabbed the t-shirt I had been wearing the night before to wipe off. After Paige pulled her shirt down and adjusted her skirt, we sat down so she could catch me up to speed.
“I couldn’t find the phone we bought you the other day so I went out and got you a new one,” she slid the phone and card over to me. “You may want to call whoever and let them know not to contact the other one.”
“Thanks. I have no fucking idea what could have happened to it. I guess it fell out on the street and some motherfucker picked it up and is enjoying some free service.”
“Probably but that’s not important right now. Now as far as this murder case goes, I was able to find a lawyer willing to take on your case but he had no interest in doing it on a pro-bono basis. He’s very, very good, but he’s also very, very expensive.”
“Paige! We agreed you wouldn’t make any calls without running the name by me first!” Unfuckingbelievable. This is why chicks always get us dudes caught.
“You want my help or not? How the hell was I supposed to get a hold of you? It’s not like you had a phone, until just now,” she snapped.
“De
fine expensive,” I growled at her. Fuck, I hate when she’s right.
“Well, before he’ll even start working on your case, he’s going to need a $15,000 retainer. I know that sounds high, but this guy’s excellent at what he does. He’s very well-known when it comes to high-profile cases. I think he’d be able to help.”
“Fifteen grand? Who the fuck you get? Johnnie Cochran?”
“Nolan Retter. Smart ass.”
“Oh shit, I’ve heard of that due. People gave him a little catch phrase. They say he’s the best of the best at defending the worst of the worst.”
“To me, that sounds like he does what his clients need him to do. And I knew I wouldn’t need your permission,” she puckered her lips at me.
Oh, God damn! Don’t pucker those sweet lips. It makes me wanna do dirty things to your mouth. “Whatever. Let me make a call to the club. See what they can do.”
“Okay, I’ll go upstairs with Ashley to give you some privacy. Just give me a yell when you’re done and we’ll figure out the next step then.”
§
With the privacy needed to conduct some official club business, I sat down to call Stone so I could tell him about the attorney. Before I could do that, I had to activate another one of these fucking phones. Why it can’t be instant is beyond me. If you have a damn card that’s been paid for, just add the minutes and be done with it. I think companies find it fun to fuck with their customers sometimes. Once it was activated, I was finally able to make my call.
“Hey Stone, sorry I haven’t checked in. Lost my burner and had to get a new one.”
“It’s good to hear from you brother. We’ve been real worried. There’s been some shit on the news that the police have found your location. You aware of this?”
“Yeah, I know all about it. They must be talking about the info that fucking douche bag, Bird, gave them. I got out of where I was in time. They pulled into the driveway just as we pulled out of the subdivision.”
“Good. Like I said, just lay as low as you fucking can.”
“That’s the plan, but I have something I need to discuss with you. We found a lawyer that has agreed to work on this case. He’s one of those high-profile guys that are known for getting even the most guilty fuckers out of trouble. He thinks he can help after hearing the story. The only problem is that he wants fifteen grand for a retainer and I don’t have that kind of fucking money. I was gonna see if the club was able to help.”
“Let me see. Hold on.”
Stone put the phone down and yelled for the prospect to get his retarded looking ass over to him pronto. He instructed the prospect to find Womp, our club treasurer, and have him write down how much expendable cash the club had for legal issues. He told him to bring it back to him folded and warned him to not to even think about looking at it.
“All right, brother. Womp says we got about $7,500 that we can help you out with. You’ll have to figure out a way to come up with the rest.”
“Cool. I figure something out, and when I do, I’ll give you a call.”
“Sounds good, brother. Be safe.”
I sent a text to Paige’s cell phone and told her to come back down to the basement. All this hiding like a kid shit was for the fucking birds. But if I wanted this suburban housewife to continue let me staying in her basement, I had to play by her rules. I’d have to bite my tongue for just a little longer.
“So the club has about $7,500 they can hand over to help pay this guy but I’m gonna have to come up with the rest of it myself,” I told her.. “If the feds haven’t found it, I’ve got $4,000 hidden in a duffel bag under a floorboard in my house.”
“Maybe I can have to lawyer go out there and pick it up.”
“No, he’s not gonna do that. He’s going to stay out of this altogether until he has his cash. That’s how lawyers work. No cash, no assistance,” I laughed for a second. “You can tell you’ve never been in any fucking trouble.”
Her face blushed, probably from embrassment.
“I’ll go get it,” she replied.
“There’s probably law enforcement keeping a close eye on the place to see if they can catch me coming or going. You’d have to sneak in and I don’t think you’re ready for that.”
“I’m up for it. Just tell me what to do and I’ll go get it.”
Fuck, she really is my best case scenario. Fuck me now.
We sat together for a couple of hours as I coached her on what to do. I feared that she wouldn’t listen to my detailed instructions and get both of our asses busted. The only chance she was going to have on getting into my place without getting caught was to gain access to the vacant house next door. From there, she would need to go upstairs and out onto the balcony, jump over onto the balcony at my house and then enter through the window. I know it sounds like some real James Bond shit, but it really isn’t. The houses are so close together that they basically touch. In fact, you can literally just climb from balcony to balcony. The only risk to her safety would be getting there and back in one piece. If the feds weren’t watching the place, the Aces probably were.
“There is just one more thing I need to ask you and I really hate to do it.” I said.
“What do you need? I’ll do anything I can to help.”
“Well, even if you’re able to go to my place and grab the money I have hidden, it’s still going to leave me about $3,500 short. Is there any way you could front that money for me? I’ll pay you back as soon as Stone has my money from our next shipment.”
“I can do that. I’m going to get out of here so I can take care of a few things. I figure I better call that detective back before he comes looking for me. I’d rather talk to him on the phone than have to go in and see him face to face. I’ll call you on your burner before I go to your place so we can go over the plan one more time.”
“Yeah, about that, you should go and get a burner for yourself too. If the feds think you’re hiding me out, it would be fucking easy as shit to put a tap on your phones. Get a burner and only call me from that.”
“Okay, you need anything else?”
I looked at her skirt, “We don’t have enough time for what I need.”
Paige kissed me and left, promising that I would hear from her later. I waited until I knew she wasn’t coming back and placed another phone call to the clubhouse.
“Stone, I’ve got everything in place. The girl is gonna go to my place to pick up the money. I’d like you to put some eyes on her to make sure she’s safe. If anything goes down, I want someone protecting her ass.”
“You got it, brother. You sure you can trust her? I mean, she’s a civilian. They don’t know how to do shit without getting caught.”
“Yeah, she’s cool. I just don’t want anything happening to her. If it weren’t for her, I’d be in another country for no reason.”
“Let us know when and we’ll make sure she gets in and out safe. I have to warn you though, there’s lots of police activity around your place.”
“Better police than the Aces. She stands a better chance against the cops. Once she grabs the cash, I’m gonna send her to the clubhouse to have her grab the rest of the money.”
CHAPTER 16
PAIGE
It was important to me to appear as solid as a rock whenever I was in front of Beast. I didn’t want him to worry that I’d flake out on him. Once I left Ashley’s house, however, it was an entirely different story. I was a nervous wreck and didn’t have any idea about what I was going to do. All I knew was that I was getting way too deep into something I didn’t know nearly enough about, but it was too late to change my mind. I had promised my help and I intended to keep my promises even if that meant putting my own ass in danger.
For the entire ride back home, my head was all over the place. My brain was so scattered that I’m actually surprised I made it home without getting into an accident. I intended to contact the detective that had left me a message but I had no clue what I was going to say to him. I didn’t really like the
idea of answering his questions, but I was afraid that if I didn’t, he would know I was up to something and charge me with some kind of crime. All I knew was that I was going to make the call and get it out of the way. If he wanted to ask a bunch of questions or ask me to come in, I would simply tell him I wasn’t going to answer any questions without legal representation and hope that the attorney I hired would be able to exonerate Beast quickly.
Once I was back home, I took a deep breath and picked up the phone, dialing the numbers very slowly. A woman picked up the phone, answering it as homicide. I asked to speak to Detective Eric Hansen before she put me on hold while she transferred me. With each ring, my stomach started turning a little more. Finally, after six rings, the line picked up and I was greeted with a voicemail message. I had dodged a bullet. I left a message so he would know I called, making it seem like I was trying to cooperate. If anything, that voice mail bought me another 24 hours while I attempted to figure everything else out. With that off my mind, I was able to turn all my attention to getting the money that Beast had hiding in his house.
