‘Hey.’ He poked her in the ribs but the corners of his lips kicked up. His poke turned to a caress before he rested his hand over her heart, just to feel it tap-tap-tapping away in there.

She caught his eye. ‘It still feels weird.’

‘You’ll get used to it.’ He freed his hand to trail a finger along the curve of her waist before leaning into her for a deep kiss.

She put a hand on his arm and pulled away. ‘Here comes Arvalis. Look at her, how amazing is she?’

He dwelt for a second on the contrast of Valeda’s pale hand on his bronzed forearm—a sight he associated with sexy times with her, of which there were now many—before looking up.

Amid the majesty of rockabilly pompadours and punk hairstyles, Arvalis was indeed an amazing sight. She was dressed all in silver, from her roller skates to towering white beehive, and her skin glowed with neon pink paint. Black rouge painted on her cheeks, she carried a small pink basket on her one arm and was dipping into it to throw glitter into the crowd. When she ran out of glitter she pulled a wand out of the basket, gripped it between her teeth, and tossed the basket to the crowd. She then flipped up her silver miniskirt to bare her underpants as she skated away. Emblazoned in black bold font on each silver cheek were the words ‘Glitter Whore’. The spectators whistled and cheered.

As cock rock blared across the track, grinding away in the background, Arvalis high-fived members of the Fifth Realm Slutsicles, laughed with the Ninth Realm Nymphos and hugged her teammates.

Arvalis was back on eight wheels and terrorising jammers, pivots and blockers alike. Not to mention the centaur she’d already goosed several times.

  She was amazing.

Almost as amazing as his wife.

A broad grin split Arvalis’s face as Megorn slid to a stop by her. The she-demon swatted the raven-haired beauty on the backside with her wand. His hearing, still preternaturally powerful, picked up their conversation.

‘I’ll see you in the penalty box later, sister.’

‘For sure, I just spotted the Iron Slut. She’s so goin’ down.’

‘Hit her like she owes you money and I’ll heal your rink rash in my tent tonight.’ Arvalis winked at Megorn.

‘Deal.’ As they moved off, a team of fearleaders waved scarlet and yellow pompoms in the air—an artificial sunset that Arvalis and Megorn skated towards, hand in hand.

  Welcome to the heart—and heat—of Australia…

They say that no one has secrets in a small town—these women prove them wrong.

Eight brand-new stories from some of Australia’s hottest writers in Australia’s hottest genre.   After five years in the city earning her veterinary degree, Skye Malone is happy to be heading back to Milpinyani Springs, and her best friend Bret. Sure, her crush on him is still at epic proportions, but she managed to ignore it this long, and a good friend is a valuable commodity in a small community like theirs.
