He kept speaking to me, telling me how sexy I was and how crazy I drove him with need. Quickly, he set the piece of paper back inside the box while grabbing another, setting it on the baseboard.

“This one will be right next to the other so I can remember the moment you took my cock inside you.” He placed my hand on the paper and laced his fingers between mine. The gesture was undeniably hot and romantic in my eyes. With his other hand he guided himself into me.

It hurt, especially once he pushed past my virginity, but then he started moving. Slowly the pain started to turn into something else. Something wild and unimaginable.

“You’re so fucking beautiful, Rose,” he groaned and then pressed the button for the light to expose our joined and clenching hands onto the paper. Our moment in time was forever sealed into a photograph. He moved faster, but didn’t let go of my hand even though the purpose of exposure was gone. He just wanted us joined in every way, which was why I didn’t complain when he pulled out of me, placed the paper back inside the box and led us out of the darkroom and into the bedroom.

I was tossed against the bed and he pounced on me like a lion about to devour his prey. Our hands clasped above my head and he was back inside me. Right where he belonged. His jeans had vanished somewhere between the darkroom and the bedroom, because there was no restraint in the way he moved as he pounded himself inside me.

We were connected in every way we could be. Only leaving each other’s lips when I couldn’t keep my moans at bay.

“I feel you getting ready for number three. Come on my cock, Rose. I need to feel you give me everything,” he growled and I couldn’t help but give into his demands. A few more of his thrusts and I was screaming to the angels. No doubt tomorrow I would be hoarse from tonight’s activities but right now as Draco’s mouth opened against mine as we cried out our releases together, there was nothing that could ruin this moment.

We stayed there, joined for minutes. Listening to the sound of each other’s calming breaths, and not wanting to break the connection.

“Over achiever. I only asked for extra credit of fucking.” I tried to bring a smile to his face while my arms wrapped around his sweat-covered back. We did get a good workout, and I felt exhausted.

“You’re welcome.” He kissed my lips once more before slowly pulling out. I winced with the soreness that was starting to make itself known. Draco disappeared into the bathroom and came back with a wash cloth to clean me up.

“Oh crap, we didn’t use a condom.” Now I thought about this? Afterwards? I jumped up from the bed in a panic and then saw some blood on his sheets. Christ, this was not romantic at all.

Draco went to the sheets and tossed them in a hamper by the closet. Then proceeded to put new ones on.

“I had a vasectomy about ten years ago, so no need to worry,” he said very casually then sat back on the bed, naked and looking very comfortable.

“Come lie with me, Rose. I want you in my arms.”

  Chapter Twenty-Four

  Draco

Rose came over to me and curled up in my arms.

“Feeling good, beautiful?” Gently, I lay us back against the mattress.

“Yeah, I’m a little sore but I feel great,” she purred and I held her a little tighter. I wanted this feeling to last forever.

A deep-rooted feeling of pain that lingered in the distance tried to rear its head. But I wouldn’t let my fear of her dying in the future ruin our moment right now. Eventually if she wanted to stay with me in the long run we would need to talk about the inevitable, me outliving her.

“Why’d you get a vasectomy?” she asked in a curious tone. Her fingers started lazily drawing spirals against the skin on my chest.

“I couldn’t handle outliving any children I created.” Nothing like that had ever happened in my long years and I didn’t want it to. So I elected the surgery, and while I haven’t had sex with anyone in years, I got it checked every year and my body hadn’t repaired itself like I was worried it would.

“I guess I could understand that.” She was quiet for a few minutes and just enjoyed the feel of her body against mine comfortably.

“I wanted to have a family, but then when my power arrived, I couldn’t even consider it. I was a freak, and didn’t want to pass that down.”

“You’re—” I was trying to tell her she wasn’t a freak, but she didn’t let me finish.

“I know, I’m not. I figured that out a while ago, and after hearing our origin story I feel a lot better. Phillip’s vision of a Hero Society, and a world where people like us can feel safe and not alone is part of what drives me to do things I don’t want to. Like touching bad people. If that future exists then that is a future I think I would feel better about having a family in.”

It felt like she needed to get that out in the open more for herself than just to tell me. I could understand her reservations about having kids; it was something I had contemplated many times. Since I was created, and my only power was a gift. If I were somehow to lose that power then I would just become man again. Hopefully not a two-thousand-year-old decomposing man, or in other words ash.

“His vision for the future does seem amazing.”

“It really does.” She agreed with me, and tilted her head up to look into my eyes.

“I think I’m falling in love with you.” Those words coming from her lips and showing in her bright eyes warmed my soul. I saw love brewing between us and knew there was nothing I could do, despite trying. Rose was everything to me, and I decided loving her was worth the pain I would one day feel losing her.

“Seems only fair, since I have already fallen in love with you.”

She smiled and kissed my lips with feverish passion.

“You do?” Her voice was higher from elation. I didn’t even need her powers to feel how happy she was for my voiced feelings.

“Indeed.” I smiled, and it felt natural to do so. She went back to kissing me and rubbing her sweet body against mine. It was probably too soon to take her again, even though my dick was stirring with the promise of her sexy heat.

Alas, her insatiable need won me over and I knew in the morning she would be deliciously sore that every movement she made would remind her of my cock inside her.

Inevitably, her hands found the raised skin of the symbols from the gods on my back, she was both in awe and sadness for my pain as I told her how they appeared. She kissed every inch of my spine, before turning me over onto my back, and riding me to replace any bad thoughts with ones of her swaying over me. It would be a beautiful memory that I would keep for as long as I lived.

The next morning I woke up and opposite of the previous night we slept in the same bed, this time we were facing each other with her hand in mine. Another night with no nightmares thanks to her. She was an addiction I was quickly forming.

I heard my rooster crow and needed to get up to take care of them. Without waking her, I moved slowly out of the bed. She looked completely at peace, and after the energy she exhausted last night she would be passed out for a few more hours. The smile on my face that appeared when she told me she was falling for me grew. Rose was every bit the insatiable woman I thought was under her soft skin. She had just been waiting for someone who saw the true beauty in her, both inside and out.

After getting dressed, I walked out to the animals with that smile still on my face.

Today was going to be a good day.

A car speeding up my drive caught my attention as I started throwing hay and feed into the cow pen.

Phillip’s SUV was hightailing it, and then came to a stop abruptly. His tires screeching in the dirt.

“Draco, get Rose!” he yelled, and his face was completely masked in panic. Instantly I dropped my pitch fork and ran toward the house.

Suddenly, half of my house exploded.

I was knocked back a few steps but didn’t stop till I was inside.

My kitchen was gone. The fire was moving across the house in seconds and the smok
e had already taken over the air.

I pushed the half-opened door open and saw Rose sitting up in bed, covering her mouth. But she was still having a hard time breathing.

The smoke was consuming my lungs but I had to get her out of here. Quickly I walked up to her and wrapped her in the sheet. We could worry about modesty later. Right now, her life was more important. I started to head toward the door, but another explosion shattered the rest of that side of the house. Taking me to the ground with her in my arms. I tried to take most of the fall but I knew she wasn’t unscathed.

Both of us started coughing violently and this wasn’t going well. I turned back around to the bedroom and kicked out the window. Phillip met me by the broken glass and I handed her to him. Should have used the window in the first place, I thought about that as I pushed one leg out.

Then pulled it back in, there was one thing in this whole cabin that I actually wanted to save, and knowing I wouldn’t die spurred me into the flames to retrieve it.

After grabbing the box, I tucked it under my shirt and held tight. The house was collapsing in the fire and I had to get out now. Inside of calmly jumping out of the window, I dove straight toward the fresh air, and safety.

“Christ, you went inside for a box! Hope it was worth it. Your arm is scorched, and your hair is singed.” Phillip must have put Rose in the car while I went back in. I pulled the box out from under my shirt, making sure that it was secure so no light peeked inside. The two pictures of Rose and my hand from last night were in there, and I wanted those forever. It was absolutely worth it.

“Okay, let’s go. I wanna take her to the hospital. I’m pretty sure she hit her head pretty hard.” After hearing that she was hurt, I took off in a run toward the SUV. Phillip was right behind me. I put the box tight in the pocket behind the front seat then crawled into the back with Rose.

“Hey, beautiful.” I lifted her head up gently so I could look into her eyes.

“Draco.” She tried to give me a smile, but instead she just started crying. Phillip called the emergency number to put out the fire, and then I gave him a number to call for someone to come and pick up my animals.

“Sorry about your home.” Rose finally spoke when the tears seemed to have lessened.

  I shrugged.

“It was just a house.” That I built with my two bare hands, but losing things that made me happy was pretty much a staple in my life. At least I got a couple decades of peace. That was something to find the silver lining in.

“And all your stuff,” she retorted.

“It can all be replaced. Except two pictures in that box. Those couldn’t.” I tried to get her to smile, but all she did was turn pink and hide her face. Phillip suggested we get her changed into some real clothes before taking her to the hospital to get checked over. Rose agreed.

I carried her up to her apartment and helped her get into something easy to wear. A pair of yoga pants and a large sweater. On the way out, I slipped a pair of shoes on her feet that she had by the door, and then carried her back down to the car.

“I’m sorry I didn’t make it in time, guys. I saw the future a while back but the percent was so low I didn’t even consider it.” His agony about this was clear as day. Rose tried to console him, but he was determined to not let his visions defeat him. A sobering thought flittered through my mind that maybe someone was toiling with him. Twice now, visions that had very low possibility of coming true, did.

I knew Phillip was thinking the same thing when his knuckles grew white while he gripped the steering wheel in anger.

  Chapter Twenty-Five

  Rose

Draco and Phillip were being oddly silent while we waited in the exam room for my test results. Phillip had walked in to the hospital and demanded someone take care of me immediately. Being who he was, I got ushered in right away and looked at. Draco stood to the side and eyed everyone that came near me like they were a threat and all I could do was roll my eyes at both of their cavemen theatrics.

I was two seconds away from getting on them about their silent conversation I kept feeling that they were having, but the door opened and a man with a white coat walked in.

“Phillip. Pleasure to see you again.” The man walked in and shook hands with Phillip first.

“Rose, Draco. Meet Dorian, chief physician. I’m glad you could take time out of your schedule to come look over my sister’s head.” Phillip had obviously met the doctor before. He nodded and said hello before taking a step over to me.

“How are you feeling, Rose?” He lifted a small light and looked into my eyes, and placed his stethoscope on my chest. I got a real good look at him, and found him handsome. He was tall, and well built. Much like Draco in body size. His black hair was short, and he had a dusting of facial hair growing like he’d been working a long shift and hadn’t had the time to shave. His hazel eyes were quite pretty but as he smiled at me while I was obviously looking him over, I felt nothing. He was handsome, and that was it for me.

“I have a bit of a headache but otherwise I’m okay.” I knew it was good to be safe rather than sorry, but I also felt like this was all a bit of an overreaction.

“Your chart said you slipped in the shower, where you hit your head.”

That was the story that we decided on. Telling them that I was in a cabin while it exploded and hit my head by the blast probably wouldn’t go over very well. Plus we didn’t know where the Raven was and who he had working for him.

“Yep. I’m pretty clumsy.” I smiled and tried not to laugh at the truth of my statement. A half-smile appeared on his lips and he went about asking me the questions that the nurse before had went over with me. I didn’t get any emotions from him, but I was feeling pretty cruddy. He probably thought I was an idiot.

“Well, according to your X-ray and my assessment, you are going to live. I’ll write you a script for some pain relief since you will probably feel sore tomorrow, but otherwise there is no concussion or irreparable damaged. Just rest and you will be back to normal in a few days.” He quickly wrote me a script for the pain reliever and wished us a good day before leaving. Being the chief of medicine he was probably a very busy man. He was only there because Phillip the celebrity was in the house. Phillip also helped in the life changing technology that was stocked in the hospital.

“See, I’ll be okay. You two can both relax.” I stood from the exam table and both men were there to assist me if I needed it.

“Seriously, let’s go get my script filled, grab some breakfast, and head to HQ.”

We did exactly that but Phillip was still big brothering me. Draco was just cautious, and that I was okay with. Phillip wanted to put me in a bubble.

Once we finally got food, and sat down in the chill room at headquarters, everyone started talking. AJ met us there and Phillip handed him a breakfast sandwich.

“I made you some new IDs to replace the ones you might have lost.” AJ handed Draco a little envelope. Handy. Most likely illegal, but handy.

I swear a moan bubbled up from my chest as I bit into my bacon, egg, and cheese. It was heavenly. I caught Draco eyeing me, and gave him a wink.

Then my gaze caught Phillip’s knowing look and I rolled my eyes.

“Okay, you called it. Bravo, oh seer of the future,” I teased him and he grinned more. My brother knowing about my sex life was just something I didn’t want to go into more so I changed the subject.

“Let’s move on. So, there has obviously been some new info being passed around. Let’s have it out please.” I took another bite of my sandwich and waited.

Phillip looked around at everyone and took a deep breath.

“Pretty sure our bad guy knows about us—what we are doing. And he’s playing with my powers. Somehow he knows all of them and waits till the last minute to choose the one with the least percent of happening. I can’t explain the feeling, but it’s the only explanation I have that all of a sudden I’ve been wrong on what is supposed to happen.” I could hear how upset
he was over this; I didn’t even need to feel his power to know how he felt. Draco seemed to be lost in thought as he digested the words that I bet he suspected but didn’t believe until Phillip voiced them aloud.

“That changes the game.”AJ blew out a whistle and ate his food. It really did. Someone was looking over us like a chess game and could see our potential moves.

“What do we do now?” I asked, but no one answered, because right now I don’t think anyone had any. We all just sat there trying to figure out what to say, and it continued to stay silent. After a few awkward minutes Draco was the one to break the dread in the air.

“We keep training. We keep doing what we were. All two days of it. We keep going, and we don’t give up on the Hero Society. We are being the change we want to see in our world. We will use our gifts to protect those who can’t protect themselves, and we will bring people like us together. To feel safe and to have a purpose.”

Draco’s words had filled me with hope. We would not let this new revelation get us down. We needed to keep going. We had to focus.

“You’re right. I wanna be the change.” I stood and everyone stood like they were ready to jump and save me.

“You rest; tomorrow you can start training again. We need to work more on your powers. They are still unstable. But today. You rest.” Draco said and the other men nodded their heads in agreement. Even the teenager was protective of me. I sat back down with a huff.

  Overprotective men.

Draco was the one who looked like he fought a damn fire! His hair was a mess and had parts that were singed from the flames. His arm was healed, but it still looked like he went through something dramatic.

Phillip and AJ launched into computer talk about using our description of the Raven to find him, along with some other chatter about the system itself. Computers weren’t my strong suit so I just adjusted myself to get comfortable on the large chair to relax. I would pick out a book from the bookshelf Phillip had brought in this morning for me in a little bit once there was peace and quiet in the room.
