Summer of Fire Page 31

  “What’s that?” Charles asked.

“It’s the ancient Roman ring. The one I got from Mondragone,” Sinclair said, turning it over in his hand.

Charles examined it. “Oh yes, I remember. All that seems like it was years ago. Doesn’t it?”

Sinclair read the inscription on the inside.

“Funny thing. It says ‘Te Amo Parum.’”

“Te Amo Parum?” Charles repeated. “Latin?”

“Yes. It means, ‘I love you too little’ or ‘I don’t love you as much as you deserve.’”

“Strange,” Charles said, staring at the artifact. “What are you going to do with it?”

In response, Sinclair stepped back, wound up his arm, and flung it far over the cliff. The gold ring arced high into the air, glinting like a spark in the sunlight. They watched it tumble to the earth, carried by the wind, until it disappeared into the ancient ruins below.

  THE END

KITTY PILGRIM has traveled the world, first as a correspondent for CNN for 24 years, and now as an author of international romantic thrillers. Her novels are filled with high lifestyle and luxury.

Many of Pilgrim’s novels include themes of science and exploration and cover such exotic locations as the high Arctic or the calderas of active volcanoes.

As a writer and journalist, Pilgrim feels she has a mission to inform as well as to entertain. Her novels include real information, discovered through research and interviews. She also visits the places she writes about and meets with top experts in the field.

Readers are often confused about what is real in a novel. To answer that question, Pilgrim shoots and produces videos, to allow the reader to accompany her on the adventure of researching her book.

These short videos, available on her website, kittypilgrim.com, provide interesting background for those who would like to learn more about the scientific themes or the locations of her novels.

Pilgrim lives the life she writes about. She is a certified diver, a member of the historic Explorer’s Club of New York, and a fellow in the Royal Geographical Society of London. When she is not traveling, she lives and works in Manhattan and spends time with her two sons William (age 27) and Beau, (age 25).
