The Noir Evil Page 73

by Richard Paul Caird

The thing then screeched an otherworldly scream of pain before it hastily threw Ness clearly across the room and into the large gold trimmed wall mirror which shattered upon impact. The tremendous brute force that he felt reverberate throughout his entire body upon impact had caused warm blood to effortlessly shoot from his nose, saturating the nearby floor with blood splatter form his innards. The monsters surprisingly unnatural ability to throw him so easily across the room was only matched by the crazed sight that he now saw before him as shattered mirror shards rained down upon his head. He saw the blackened beast frantically attempting to remove three spider like creatures with human head’s that where furiously biting its legs and other extremities whilst hastily climbing up and down its behemoth like frame.

These three unnatural spider’s heads look oddly familiar to the squinting Ness as he observed there vicious assault upon the abomination as they bit and tore lumps of flesh from the maddened beast’s body, causing it to bleed a green blood that smelled sickeningly like rotting flesh. The three unknown heads appeared to have recently grown there spider like appendages because they were made of a fresh red muscular substance that still stubbornly retained its still attached shed skin. Their blood soaked muscular colour, and that of the monsters blood, where both easily visible nearby the electric fire’s constant glow whereas everything else within the room was a confusing mix of fast moving shadows.

The battered and bleeding Ness looked at this appalling sight from an insane nightmare made flesh and realised that he had to immediately flee and frantically attempted to get up and open the nearby door. As he desperately tried to open the door and escape the hellish madness which now surrounded him, his panic soon turned into dread as he heard menacingly painful screams fill the room. He then ceased trying to open the door and slowly turned around to see that the monstrosity was individually ripping off the heads from each of the individual spider like creations, relishing in there otherworldly screams of pain that they each emitted before crushing them within its massive hand and creating an explosion of warm sticky blood. As this thick blood liberally coated Ness’s petrified face he screamed in terror and frantically tried to open the door yet again, almost pulling it from its hinges as the unstoppable raw emotion of fear now saturated his very soul “Ahhhhhhhh!”

Back outside in the hallway Polizzi vocalised his sarcastic thoughts about the epic confrontation within the private suite as they both heard Ness’s scream and frantic pounding upon the door “Oh! Do you hear that detective? The all-powerful and untouchable safety director is in some serious shit now! Hehe! Frank is as nutty as a fruitcake and a few sandwiches short of a picnic if you get my drift but you should know that shouldn’t you? I mean you’re the detective right?! Hahaha!” The amused Polizzi then violently kicked the bloodied and defeated detective again before helping him up, kneeing him in the abdomen and then propping him up precariously by the open elevator shaft.

He then triumphantly spoke again whilst he enjoyed the suffering upon the detectives battered and bloodied face “This is for The Harvard Club!” He then punched him with his silver knuckle dusters in the face, spraying blood over the hallway before continuing whilst propping him up again “This is for Machiano!” He then vengefully punched his unshielded face again, causing the violent impact to liberally spray the elevators metal exterior with the detective’s crimson liquid. The smiling Polizzi then paused as he looked at Merlyo in disgust and prepared for his final punch of violent revenge whilst speaking “And this is for my LaSalle you gumshoe son of a bitch!” He then punched the detective with so much force that it sent him flying into the echoing elevator shaft, causing Merlyo to instinctively grab at the crude steel cables which ran throughout it.

As Polizzi enjoyably watched the defeated detective desperately struggle to hold onto the harsh cables in his last ditch bid to salvage his life, he voiced his distain as he took out his luger pistol from his upper jacket pocket and aimed it at him “Jesus! Would you just fucking die already!” Just before he pulled the trigger which caused the luger’s mussel to flash within the darkened evaluator shaft, something caused him to lose his aim and miss the dangling detective. As the startled Polizzi looked down to see what was grabbing his leg he saw a truly horrifying sight, the little Lady of the Lake’s gruesome spectre was gripping his leg like a child whom had been lost and had now found her farther again. She then opened up her abnormally elongated mouth as he vocalised his terror that now shuddered within his trembling core “Jesus! What the fuck?!” The dangling detective watched as the Lady of the Lake’s mouth suddenly released a putridly black liquid that shot all over the petrified mobsters face, causing him to scream and flee back down the hallway in a terrified scramble “Ahhhhhhhh!”

The bloodied detective then looked at her in confusion as she slowly returned her gaze to him once the threat of Polizzi had frantically fled the immediate area, her mouth closing within an unnatural instant. She then silently pointed towards the door that Ness was banging on and held out her other hand to help him escape the deep shaft which had almost permanently consumed him. The bleeding Merlyo looked at her translucent wet hand with some apprehensive hesitation because he was reluctant to put his faith into her but finally relented as he reached out to grasp it, praying that he would not be wrong about her and trusting in blind faith alone.

Back within the bleak room of horror Ness had slowly picked up his fallen revolver from amongst the shattered mirror shards and tried to steady himself whilst aiming at the feeding silhouette of the monstrosity. It was hastily consuming the remains of the three spider headed creatures that had just attacked it whilst frantically looking for more within Gerber’s Gladstone bag until it heard Ness’s revolver chamber slowly start to rotate as he was about the pull the trigger again. The unholy monstrosity’s head instantly then ceased its curious viewing of the Gladstone bag’s interior and swivelled around like that of an owls until its ominous gaze was once again locked onto Ness from the other side of the darkened room.

Ness squinted as he tried to aim through the relentless rain and wind that violently assaulted his trembling face and, as he fired his remaining four bullets into the shadowy silhouette of the maddening creature, it simply remained steadfast with its unbroken gaze of torment locked upon him. Ness could not believe what was happening as he once again tried to desperately rationalise the abnormal situation that he found himself in and desperately wished to awaken from this all-consuming nightmare. To his horror the monstrosity then abnormally glided across the room as if it came across upon a cushion of unholy air towards him and he desperately throw his useless revolver in anger at the unholy beast. His weapon harmlessly impacted the nearing shadowy creature as it raised its razor sharp talon like hand and brought it down with a vengeance upon the location where Ness had just been as he just managed to avoid it by ducking under its razor sharp claws. The claws mercilessly impacted the hard varnished wooden frame of the door with a thunderous crunch that forcefully compressed the woods already tightly packed elements together.

Ness’s attention was then caught once again by the brilliantly illuminated Lilith statue as it flickered in the lightening above the glowing fireplace almost like a beckon that was calling out to him. He realised that it could be his salvation because he could use its round globe like flower base as a mace to bash the creatures skull in but before he could run he suddenly felt the maddening pressure of the monstrosities talon like grip around his right arm. Within a split second he found himself spun around before vertically flying through the rain soaked air and impacting the fireplace with such immense force that it caused yet more warm sticky dark fluid to forcefully expel itself from both his nose and mouth.

The monstrosity satisfactorily stood there staring at him as a battered and bruised Ness lay by the fireplace in shock as warm blood seeped out from his cracked lips and forehead and liberally spilled out upon the open floor below. Ness’s bloodshot eyes opened and he saw the familiar glowing eyes of
the hideous monstrosity beaming down upon him in anger from across the rain soaked room. Then the creature’s gaze of its desired quarry was then yet again broken because it was startled by a succession of load bangs that came from behind the shuddering door it was now standing in front of. The resurgent Merlyo’s revolver bullets mercilessly flew through the dense wooden structure of the heavy oak door and impacted the creatures impenetrable flesh as the detective shouted from the beyond “NESS! OPEN THE DOOR! NESS! NESS!”

Due to the wily detectives timely interference Ness then felt a newfound courage start to well up from within him because just knowing that his friend was outside the door gave him a new strength and determination. Whilst the unspeakable abominations attention was diverted this gave him the perfect opportunity to acquire the weapon he had been looked at previously before he had been thrown clearly across the room. As he desperately grasped at the now fallen statue he grabbed it upside-down so that the flower now appeared to act like a mace for which had the full intention of using to its maximum capacity. The statue handle felt unusually comfortable within his sweaty hand whilst the yellow sand glass brilliantly lit up with the lightening outside. Upon seeing this sacrilege of the unholy ancient idol the monstrosities ominously glowing eyes then once again fixated upon him, surprised at seeing that the defiant lawman’s formidable endurance and will to live.

Outside the desperate detective frantically tried to enter the room as he saw water pouring out from underneath the apparently immovable door. He tried to shoot the lock whilst kicking it in but it would simply not give and unnaturally remained sealed and with this satisfactorily reassuring realisation, the monstrosity then refocused upon its originally desired quarry whom now stood by the fireplace holding a sacred relic of a bygone age. It then started to abnormally glide across the deadly broken mirror saturated floor of the darkened room whilst the awaiting Ness nervously clutched his new weapon even harder in grim anticipation of the forthcoming conflict, determined to strike it upon its head with all of his might.

Just before it was about to reach the trembling Ness, the maddening monstrosity then screeched yet again in pain as it suddenly stopped as the dripping wet Lady of the Lake‘s long apparition and tendril like hair mercilessly wrapped around its head from behind. The startled Ness looked on in disbelief as the rotten and ghostly little girls hair writhed around its prey like a pulsating living organism until it was completely enveloped it within its unforgiving grasp. The tendrils kept on swirling within the maddeningly turbulent air and constricted the unseen monstrosity within its unholy grip as the girl’s ethereal spectre slowly walked up to it. The spectre gritted her translucent teeth together as she squeezed the abomination with all the ghostly might, determined to destroy the very thing that had so cruelly stolen her short life away from her.

The monster then suddenly broke free as the apparitions constricting hair was instantly shredded by its solid black muscular power and it immediately then brought down its massive talon clawed hand upon the spectre’s face, causing it to screech a maddening scream from the beyond the grave. Then the damaged but vengefully fuelled Lady of the Lake opened up her gaping rotten mouth as murky black water and maggots uncontrollably sprayed upon the unsuspecting monstrosity which caused it to reel back in pain and hiss. Ness once again tried to rationalise the horrendous sight that he saw before him as the monstrosity then grabbed the little girl’s spectral head and mercilessly ripped it off her ghostly body, instantly separating it and showing the translucent spinal cord as it did so. It then satisfactorily swallowed the decapitated ghostly head within its rancid mouth of pestilence and decay, slowly smothering the screaming Lady of the Lakes terrified screams as it drifted down its sightless throat.

It then returned its terrifying gaze back upon the petrified Ness and abnormally flew across the room towards its elusive quarry, determined that he would not get away again for a third time. As soon as the creature was upon him it once again grabbed his neck with such unrelenting force that if forced him to immediately lower his sand glass mace in an effort to relieve the immense pressure that was now being exerted upon his fragile neck. The monstrous abomination then effortlessly and abnormally glided with its newly acquired quarry towards the shattered window which faced the gloomy Terminal Tower. It then easily held out the battered and bleeding Ness into the turbulent vortex of rain with its muscularly outstretched arm, high above the unseen streets which lay far below. Rain lashed his battered and broken body that was now sweating blood whilst one of his hands was on the monsters wrist and the other was still barley just clutching onto the sand glass statue. He could not breath as the lightning storm raged fully around him and he could barely open his reluctant eyes to see the full hideously horrendous features of the twisted monstrosity’s face as the lightening showed it in all its grotesque glory.

Meanwhile a despondently crying Poppy was looking at the lightning struck Terminal Tower from her warm bathtub and then broke her sombre gaze to reluctantly pick up the sharp razor blade. She then uncontrollably sobbed as she pressed the sharp blade against her porcelain but scarred wrist skin and hesitated as she glanced again at the Terminal Tower whilst lightening hit it, not wishing to look at reopening the old wounds that had always haunted her. She pierced her fragile skin and caused a drop of warm blood to fall effortlessly into the hot bath water and cried at not being shown a sign from the heavens that she so desperately needed.

At that very moment and just as Ness was about to lose all consciousness and succumb to his numerous wounds whilst dangling out of the 10th floor window, something truly terrible was happening before him. The unholy abomination was not only pulling him in closer to its appallingly hideous face but it was also slowly opening its salivating mouth that was dripping with thick, gooey slime. Flies mercifully escaped from its hellish interior as well as the unnatural stench of something vile whilst it spoke in its distinctively otherworldly voice “Once I finish with you I’m going to rip off Poppy’s… pretty… little… head!... HAHAHA!” Upon hearing this horrifying proclamation he looked into the monstrosities maddening eyes of pure evil and momentarily lost consciousness as memories of the beautiful Poppy flashed across his wandering mind.

Memories of when they first made love in the sunlit poppy fields and how he had looked up at her smiling face as the sun beautifully caressed her golden hair from behind. As he instinctively felt compelled to lean in to kiss her and pressed his lips against hers, she suddenly disappeared and everything strangely faded into a solid black, a pure black that remained sightless and devoid of anything tangibly recognisable. Suddenly two unknown crimson eyes startlingly opened up before him and he instinctively attempted to pull back but could not as he realised that the unseen assailant’s lips where still pressed firmly against his. Instantly upon his realisation that this was not his beloved Poppy, the female face of his pale deceiver came into view but before he could analyse it further she shot away from him into the darkness and an unknown force of wind knocked him to the ground.

At least he thought that it was the ground until he looked down and saw the he was being somehow suspended high above a swirling abyss which seemed to go on and on forever below him. As he looked around this slowly illuminating sight he quickly deduced that he was apparently within the calm eye of the storm and that only he and his unknown deceiver where present within its turbulently shifting massive walls of lightning filled clouds. Lighting and the brilliant full clear moon above now both illuminated this flying deceiver whom had cunningly taken the physical form of Poppy within his precious memory. He now recognised her to be the winged demoness herself, Lilith whom effortlessly flew motionless before him within the eye of the storm and looked down upon him whilst menacingly smiling.

Her magnificent beating and dark feathered wings where tinged with a blood red at the tips as they effortlessly held her still within the turbulently moist air and her owl like talon feet were similarly textured. Her long black leather gloved hands had elongat
ed claws at the tips of her unseen fingers and one of these hands was placed upon a barbed black whip which clung to her thin waist. Her almost naked body was periodically covered in a tight black leather which only extenuated her impressively perfect female form and a long blood red velvet cloak hung exceedingly well below her flying body. Her pale porcelain skin was tattooed with glowing bright red and unknown Sumerian cuneiform symbols, which he recognised from Grossmans statue, but they showed peculiarities around her undeniably attractive face because they long ago made way for dark veins to encroach upon it. This invasion of her otherwise perfect complexion came from her elaborate black headdress which surrounded her face within a thin metal of defensive design and continued all the way down her thin neck.

Massive black horns protruded upwards from this headdress and through her vibrantly dark red ethereal hair which magnificently floated within the swirling vortex and almost made her startlingly contradictory appearance that much more angelic rather than demonic. Her face looked surprisingly a lot like Poppy’s but he correctly theorised that the skilled demoness probably appeared to all as there most dearest love and considered her facial appearance a falsehood which was designed to deceive. Her deep voluptuous dark red lips hid her predatory razor sharp teeth and her solid crimson eyes expressed a frightening intelligence of an ancient malevolent being that was otherworldly in nature. She was a sight of utter contradiction because he both loathed her but felt compelled to adore her, she repulsed him but yet drew him ever nearer and he wanted to hate her but felt his heart uncontrollably opening to her.
