“Come here,” Jake pulled her toward the bed, climbing onto the comforter and pulling her down beside him. He lay back on the thick pillows, wrapping his arms around Anna as her head rested on his shoulder.

“I thought you wanted to,” Anna trailed off.

“Anna, I want you,” Jake felt her body tense at his statement and he rolled until she was on her back and he rose above her. He placed a gentle kiss on her temple, trailing down her jaw and neck as he spoke. “I want your body, your heart, your trust, your respect; I want all of you.”

  “Jake,” Anna sighed.

“What I don’t want,” Jake rose to stare down at her. “Is for you to regret any moment we are together.”

“I don’t,” Anna assured, lifting her head to kiss him.

Jake pulled back, his need for reassurance clear for her to see. “And, your family,” Jake prompted. “Do you not want to return to them?”

“I miss them, I’ll always miss them,” Anna pressed her palm to his cheek. “But, I will never regret choosing you.”

“If you could return to them,” Jake trailed off hesitantly, not sure if he wanted her answers to the questions he had.

“They would want me to be happy,” Anna informed.

“Then, I will spend my life making you happy, my love,” Jake vowed.

“You already have,” Anna assured as she pulled his head down to hers.

Jake became lost in her kiss, the pull of her hands on his clothing urging him to consummate the flames he ignited. He smiled as his lips trailed over the flesh of her neck and chest, his ego stoked by her want of him. Jake wouldn’t claim Anna’s innocence that night, wouldn’t do so until she consented to be his for the rest of eternity, but he would give her the release she wanted. And, perhaps, take a little pleasure as well.

The Fairy Council was roaring with fear, frustration and fury, each Fairy having an opinion on the events which took place the week before. There wasn’t a seated body in the chamber. Mara stood back from the roaring mass, wishing she could disappear from the mess her information caused. She dreaded telling her Council about the fulfillment of the dreaded prophecy and had waited longer than she should have to confront them. As Mara stood among the chaos, she regretted not waiting longer.

“The traitor, Mina must be found,” Merrick, the orange Fairy demanded. “This is all her fault!”

“The human should never have been brought here,” Misty, the orchid Fairy shouted.

“Enough!” Matthew stepped up behind Mara, his voice ringing throughout the room.

All eyes turned toward him except Mara, who bowed her head in shame at her failure. “I accept full responsibility for what has happened,” Mara offered. “The human’s protection was my responsibility.”

“No,” Matthew barked at her, startling Mara into silence before turning to the crowd. “Mara did nothing wrong, this was the human’s choice.”

“The human shouldn’t have had a choice,” Merrick argued.

“The human chose for love,” Matthew glared at the Fairy. “She chose to protect her happy ending. Is that not what our kind values; the happiness of all life?”

“But,” Micah’s brown form shook with concealed rage. “The prophecy has come to pass.”

“The prophecy,” Mira’s low tone was heard louder than any shouting. “It was inevitable. And, it is of no consequence.”

  “No consequence,” Micah repeated indignantly.

“What is done is done, Micah,” Mira stated. “The prophecy was fulfilled through love. As Fairy, we must believe it will create as it was created.”

“And, what of it, Mira,” Matthew prodded.

“There will be many changes,” Mira’s smile grew blissful.

“What is changing, Mira?” Micah begged for answers.

  “Everything,” Mira whispered.

The Council erupted in terrified whispers, but chaos of minutes before calmed. Matthew took Mara’s hand in his. She knew he meant it as reassurance, but her body flushed at the contact. She looked up at the black Fairy through golden lashes, wondering if fulfilling the prophecy wasn’t such a bad idea after all.
