Leaning my head back with a sigh, my fingers trailed down his rippling stomach as he breathed in ragged pulls. His scent filled the air with the musk of damp Earth the sharp hint of testosterone, filling my lungs until I was heady with his smell. My hands moved to play with the elastic of his pajama pants, gliding along his hip bones in a seductive dance only we knew the moves to. His lips trailed my jaw while his hands ventured to the bottom of my nightgown. Lifting it up, I raised my arms as he slid the soft fabric from my body and dropped it to the floor by our feet with a soft hush.

His deep brown eyes looked into mine, and I could swear I saw something shift behind them but, in the passion of the moment, I ignored it. I didn’t want interruptions or questions. I wanted nothing more than the hours of unbridled hunger that took me over until I was nothing more than a quaking mound of flesh underneath another. I took a step backward, Emmett mirroring my every move as he sauntered toward me when I moved away.

“I’m stronger than any curse,” he breathed.

He followed as I led even though I had no clue where I was headed. His eyes wandered over my body as I took in his, the muscles slithering smoothly under his perfect flesh.

“How can you be so sure?”

My back met a cold wall, sending a shiver up my spine that had very little to do with the cold. He closed in on me, his arousal thick and perfect beneath the flattering sweatpants he wore. With his chest pressed against mine, he took a deep breath in and smirked with victory.

“Because,” he hooked his finger under my chin and raised my face, so we were eye to eye, “as long as I have you, I can survive anything.”

His words broke through an invisible barrier I had erected around my heart, causing it to crash and spiral down to become only rubble. My lips crashed into his, and I moaned when his tongue slipped past them to entangle with mine. That seemed to awaken something in him that was a mixture of emotion and the raw animal power of lust. I pulled down at his sweat pants and gripped his length, his head falling back in ecstasy. I licked his earlobe, and the groan that escaped from him turned into a solid pit of heat and awakening in my gut. As soon as his pants fell around his feet, he kicked them away and took my wrists in his hands, holding them up above my head while his hips gyrated against me.

“Oh God,” I whimpered, wanting nothing more than for him to be inside of me.

“Tell me what you want, Blythe. I want to hear it,” Emmett hissed past the pleasure as he slid against me.

  “I want you.”

“And what do you want from me?”

A ripple of pleasure sliced through me and I gasped, answering, “I want you inside me.”

“You do, huh?” he groaned into my ear.

His breath was hot on my neck, longing rippling through both of our bodies in tandem. Both of us shivered.

  “Yes.”

His hands reached around to my ass, cupped just beneath it, and hauled me up. Pushing me against the wall, my legs automatically wrapped around his waist, putting us both in prime position. My entire body quaked with need as my fingernails dug into his shoulders. The moan that left his lips was purely animal, taking him from being the man I wanted so desperately to the one I needed with just the sound.

“Oh, I think I can oblige,” he growled.

His lips met mine, hungry and tantalizing, at the same moment he found my entrance and thrust into me with so much force it drove a throaty cry from my mouth. We moved in tandem with one another, finding our rhythm quickly. I felt Hyde slither inside of me for all of a second, and fear almost overtook the pleasure that racked my body, but she dissipated just as fast. Emmett and I were alone. No Hyde. No one. Just us as it was always intended to be. There was no fear of killing him. Just the excitement and the pleasure to focus on.

Teeth bit into my neck, and I gasped, digging my nails deeper into the flesh of his shoulders.

“Oh God, you feel so good,” Emmett breathed into the crook of my neck.

I didn’t say anything, only moaned as desire moved up from my center and spread out into the rest of my body. Pushing my heels against him, I urged him even deeper, wanting him to fill me until I was overflowing with him.

  “Deeper,” I begged. “Please.”

I felt his lips spread in a smile against mine. He pulled out and then slammed into me. He did the same thing one more time, taking each stroke after as deep as he possibly could. I was filled to the brim with him – his scent, his touch, his feel, and the way his muscles shifted underneath his gorgeous skin. All of what made him Emmett Adler took over my senses.

We rode the wave until there was nothing left but our spent bodies lying on the cold, hard wooden floor, right where we had collapsed. Both our breaths came in ragged gasps and, when I fell asleep with my head on Emmett’s shoulder and hand on his chest, arm wrapped protectively around me, sleep came as quickly as a dream.

  Chapter 10

The next thing I remembered was flashes of blood and open flesh, shrieks sounding in my ears as the darkness moved in and out of focus. I saw Hyde. I saw the both of us kill a man, unprovoked as my own hands dragged him from the hallway and into my apartment. Then everything blinked out until the man was on our table, his dark brown eyes wide with terror as my hands, Hyde’s hands, took a bone saw in our hands and lowered it to his dark-skinned chest.

His heart beat rapidly once it was exposed, slick and wet and glistening in the soft lights overhead. Blood covered the metal table and the floor, spewing from the man’s open chest cavity. A man whose name Hyde didn’t even bother to learn. She didn’t care. Not like I had.

But we made a deal, and I wasn’t about to break it.

Who knew who’d she’d go after next if I did? Emmett? Probably so. I couldn’t have that.

So, I let her work until his heart was firmly grasped in her hand, still beating slightly as her joy slithered through my chest and my cold chill moved up her spine. I couldn’t tell if it was just one, or both of us that enjoyed the kill. Either way, I felt her excitement as if it were my own. There wasn’t even a sliver of fear present in those moments as I stared at the organ, pale pink, in my hand.

  Our hand.

That was when the words from Adam Burnside’s note that came with the roses flashed through my mind. I turned, looking away from the gore in my grip to the note that now saw lovingly on the dresser bogged down with supplies like gloves and masks, leaning against the wall and splattered with a few droplets of the unknown man’s blood. Deep crimson against creamy white. Horror against purity.

  Who’s sick like me…

“You’ve got that fucking right,” Hyde growled with a devilish smirk. “Damn fucking right.”
