  Chapter Twenty-Eight

It was time to dance. Helen and Logan had just prayed, and their names were being called as they started walking on to the dance floor. The benefit had sold out. Lidia’s bills would be covered with some funds left over for others. There were even famous people in attendance and many had already offered them congratulations on their wedding. There were four hundred people getting ready to watch them not counting the ones on TV. Logan leaned down and kissed the top of Helen’s head. “I have you. I won’t let you fall.”

Helen allowed her husband to lead her to the floor. The crowd went quiet as the music started. Logan held her close to him when the dance permitted. She forgot the crowd and lost herself in Logan as they moved as one.

Logan wanted nothing more than to kiss his wife. He knew the second she lost herself to the dance. The look in her eyes was breathtaking. He was aware that at the moment she only saw him. He smiled at her as he spun her. He noticed she smiled back remembering the goofing around she did with it. The dance would last only a couple of minutes. The memory of the dance would last a lifetime for him. The music came to an end with Logan holding his wife close. He leaned down and kissed her softly.

Helen kissed her husband back. She knew that others would think it was part of the dance. Helen knew that this was her husband letting her know he loved her. Looking into his eyes, she could see his heart. She heard the applause as she and Logan took their bow and left the floor. When they were behind the stage again, she felt Logan pull her back into his arms. When he deepened the kiss, she let him. Something deep inside her changed that night. He had kept her safe in a storm. She trusted him without any pause. In his arms, she was safe. A dawning of the reality that he would never hurt her gave her peace.

The benefit was over, and Logan was driving home with Helen by his side. She was quiet. He spoke softly from behind the wheel. “You know you did great?”

Helen smiled at her husband. “I had a great teacher. I saw you smile at the turn. It was funny that day. You had no clue.”

Logan laughed. “I certainly was worried.” He pulled into the drive and got out. When he helped her out, he pulled her into his arms for another kiss.

Helen loved his kisses. When he pulled back, she smiled. “I think the neighbors are watching.”

He led the way to the house and unlocked the door. They walked in and shut it behind them. “Now they aren’t,” he said as he pulled her back into his arms.

They heard the door start to unlock. Logan winked as he broke off the kiss. Ester walked in and laughed. “You two are about as subtle as a bull in a china shop. I say we all have some ice cream.” she held the grocery bag in her hand up.

The trio went into the kitchen. They chatted about the benefit. Ester yawned delicately into her hand. “I am going to bed.” she kissed the top of each of their heads and headed for her room.

Helen looked at Logan. “I will clean up these few dishes if you want to go shower.”

Logan kissed her cheek before going upstairs. “I’ll see you up there.”

Helen finished the dishes. She went upstairs and grabbed her clothes. When Logan got out of the bathroom, she went in. Standing in the shower was always refreshing. She allowed the water to cascade over her. She thought back to the dance. The realization of the fact she trusted Logan with everything was still sinking in. Helen smiled knowing they had time to explore her new-found trust. She got out of the shower and dried off. Helen put her clothes on and headed for the room.

Logan waited for Helen. He was ready for their nightly kisses. Logan looked up when she entered the room. He watched her lean back against the door and look at him. “Are you ok?”

Helen smiled at Logan as she told him her thoughts. “I trust you. You held me tonight and did not let me fall. I keep falling more deeply in love with you. I realized tonight that when I am ready, it will be okay. You won’t hurt me.”

Logan looked at Helen. “I would never hurt you. You have become my world. To hurt you would be the same as hurting myself.”

Helen crawled into the bed beside her husband. “I think you should kiss me now. I like your kisses.”

Logan laughed. “I like your kisses too. You are very fun to kiss.”

The couple chatted and snuggled far into the night. The benefit was done. The time for them to work on who they could be as husband and wife was there. Things may get tricky, but they were both looking forward to the road ahead.
