Fully wolf, she got to all four feet and shook out her thick fur. Pieces of her human skin still clung to her fur and she dropped to the ground to roll away the last residues. The heady scent of earth and wilderness filled her nostrils and excitement and power filled her. Her thin summer dress was now in shreds—she’d never be wearing that again. It had been too small anyway.
Crashing came behind her, from the way she’d come.
It might be Gregory coming to claim her.
She needed to keep moving.
Alyssa set off at a bound, loving the power in her muscles, the strength in all four of her legs. She ran through the surrounding forest, so fast it felt like she was flying. She crashed through bushes and leaped small brooks, ignoring the animals—rabbits and mice—which scattered for safety as she pounded by.
The fear and helplessness she’d been in the grip of all day had vanished. She was strong and powerful, an apex predator.
She should have shifted sooner.
But she wasn’t alone.
Another wolf chased her. She heard the panted breath, the crush of the foliage beneath paw as it ran. Through instinct, she knew the animal was bigger than she was. Was Callum chasing her, or had Gregory shot him and decided to come after her in wolf form as well?
The chase felt endless. She ran and ran, her tongue lolling from her mouth and her chest heaving as she panted. She had no idea where she was headed, only that she needed to put as much distance as possible between herself and whoever chased her.
A solid, furry body suddenly hit her from the side, bowling her over onto her back. She snarled and snapped, purely reacting without thinking about who she was reacting to. Teeth nipped at her hind leg, and she gave a whine of pain, but then she caught the scent of him—a musky mixture of honey and chocolate—and realized it was Callum.
Shaking him off, she spun around to face him. His muzzle was bloodied, but it wasn’t his blood. Had he killed Gregory, or just injured him? Alyssa didn’t care. All she cared was that Callum had been the wolf chasing her.
He hadn’t been shot by Gregory.
His hackles were raised, his head lowered as he growled at her. He still wanted her, still wanted to dominate her. Question was, would she let him?
Her upper lip curled, flashing her canines. He was a beautiful wolf, more gold in his fur than brown, with black streaks highlighting his long back, and thick tail. His coat was a contrast to her light gray fur and white streaks.
They circled each other, both of them issuing low growls from barrel chests.
Despite what he’d done, her attraction to him was intense and her instincts told her he’d be a good mate—fierce, passionate, protective.
He lunged for her, catching her by surprise. Before she knew it, she’d spun around, snapping and snarling, but he was already behind her. He pawed her back, and mounted her, his teeth sinking into the fur at the base of her neck.
Alyssa lowered her body and submitted.
Before he could penetrate her, she felt her wolf retreating. Perhaps it understood this needed to happen with them both in their human forms.
The shift back to a woman happened almost instantly, each limb changing shape, fur melting from her skin. Even as she changed, she sensed Callum shifting with her, until they became a tangled frenzy of arms, legs, breasts and hips. The shift back had left them both completely naked. She twisted around to face him, their mouths hungrily meeting.
“Gregory?” she gasped as Callum’s teeth nipped her lower lip.
“Hurt, not dead.”
“What happened?”
“We all saw you run, and Gregory picked the gun back up and started to come after you. I still had his mate around the throat, but I had to let her go in order to chase Gregory. She grabbed her gun and tried to shoot, but she missed. It was easy enough for me to knock Gregory down, and I got his weapon away from him with my teeth. He stayed in human form. I guess he was too afraid to turn against the moon—perhaps he knows his wolf is stronger than he is. Anyway, he knew he couldn’t fight me off, definitely not in human form. His mate was too afraid to shoot again. I assume she was worried she’d shoot Gregory by accident. Gregory knew he wasn’t going to win, so he submitted.”
“But what if—”
“He’s not coming after you, Alyssa. He knows you belong to me.”
“I do,” she agreed. “I want you. I want you to make me yours.”
She felt the hard length of his cock pressing against her stomach. It felt big, too big to fit inside her. She’d never been with either man or wolf before, and the idea of his huge member pushing inside her thrilled and terrified her in equal measures.
He broke the kiss and sat up, so he straddled across her hips. She took in the sight of him, his dark hair, and blue eyes, now flecked with gold because of the shift. His body was beautiful, broad shoulders and a lean torso, his abdominals highlighted in the moonlight without being overly muscular. His erection stood up proudly, thickly veined, the head smooth and dark red. She’d seen the naked cocks of her other pack members when they’d shifted on a full moon, but never one so closely.
Suddenly, self-consciousness flooded over her, horribly aware of the rolls around her stomach, the thickness of her thighs, the full swell of her breasts. But Callum reached down to her tits, filling his hands with their flesh, kneading and massaging to the sensitive peaks of her dusky pink nipples, before rolling them between his thumb and forefinger. Alyssa forgot all about being self-conscious as arousal flashed from her nipples, straight down between her thighs. She let out a moan.
One of his hands left her breast and slid up her throat to her lips. His eyes focused intensely on her face as he pushed his thumb inside her mouth. Alyssa parted her lips and flicked her tongue around his digit, swirling as though it were his cock, before closing her lips and sucking gently.
It was Callum’s turn to let out a moan, and she saw his erection jerk in appreciation. She knew exactly what was going through his mind.
“God, you’re so fucking sexy,” he growled. “I can’t believe you’re mine.”
Sexy. She’d never thought of herself as sexy before. She’d just been Alyssa—slightly dumpy, boring Alyssa. The good girl who always did what everyone told her.
Well, not any more.
Using her teeth, she gently bit down on his thumb.
He hissed air in over his teeth, and she parted her lips allowing him to pull back his hand.
“If we do this, we’re equals,” she said. “Joint alphas. I won’t have any man tell me what to do again.” She gave a secret smile. “Except for in the bedroom, of course.”
“I wouldn’t expect anything else.” He leaned over and kissed her, his tongue pushing inside her mouth to dance with hers, his erection crushing between their stomachs.
His lips left her mouth and he slowly crawled down her body, his mouth and tongue leaving a wet trail across her skin. He paused at her breasts, taking a nipple between his teeth and grating the sensitive flesh into a hard nub, before moving onto the other. Then he positioned himself between her thighs, pressing her legs open with his palms. Alyssa had never felt so wanton, open and exposed to a man. A man who was looking at her as though he was planning on eating her.
Apparently, that was exactly what he planned on doing.
“Oh!”
His mouth closed over her sex, his tongue licking a line right from the base of her, across her pussy, to curl around her clit. Alyssa groaned and lifted her hips to press against his face.
He worked her, his finger pushing inside her. She knew she’d be tight, and he needed to get her ready to take him. He was so big and it was her first time. He pushed another finger inside her, thrusting in and out, all the while continuing to flick her sensitive bud with his tongue. Her breath came fast, her chest heaving. He reached up to pinch one of her nipples, and she unraveled, her orgasm exploding through her body, causing her back to arch, every muscle in her body tensed and held in its grip. Wave after wave rod
e through her and she allowed herself to be carried on the most extreme pleasure she’d ever felt in her life.
“Oh, God,” she gasped as the orgasm finally faded away. She blinked open her eyes to find Callum staring down at her, an intense expression on his face.
“I’m not done with you yet.”
He dragged the back of his hand across his mouth, wiping away her cream, and then scooped her up and flipped her over, onto all fours. She gave a gasp of surprise.
He kneed her legs apart and positioned himself between them. Something hard, smooth, and hot pressed at her entrance and she gasped, her whole body turning rigid.
“Relax,” he murmured to her. “You just need to relax. I’ll take it slow, I promise.”
His hips nudged forward and the head of his cock breached her pussy. She felt her inner muscles stretch around him, the cream from her previous orgasm and his saliva lubricating the way. It felt good though, so good, sending sparks of pleasure from her core all around her body. His fingers and tongue had been amazing, but she knew this would be even better.
He pushed again, sliding his cock deeper inside her channel. She gave a little whimper as he came to a halt, and she knew he’d met with the thin veil of skin that made her a virgin.
“It’s okay,” she gasped, “I want this.”
With a grunt, he drove forward, and pain shot up through her body. She sucked in air over her teeth, but then he was moving inside her, deep, so deep. His hand reached around her body, locating her clit, and he rubbed in fast circles while he slid in and out of her. His momentum built, and once she’d gotten over the initial pain, her body relaxed into his and she found herself pushing back on him, wanting more. She’d never been so full before. Every sense was focused on this one point of her body.
His chest pressed over her back, and he lowered his mouth to her shoulder and bit her hard enough to make his mark. Hard enough to claim her.
Her second orgasm built with Callum’s movements. His fingers knotted in her hair, pulling the locks into a loose ponytail, and he tugged, forcing her head up and her back to arch. She was caught up in the pummeling of sensations making her mind spin, her body taking over all rational thought.
“Ah, fuck,” Callum groaned, and he released her hair. His fingers dug hard into her hips as he held himself deep, his body jerking as he came.
Stars exploded behind her eyelids as her orgasm took hold, her toes curling, her body shuddering. She let out a sound that was a cross between a scream and a howl, but she was no longer embarrassed. She wasn’t some timid little virgin any more. She’d been mated, claimed.
They fell together into the dirt, and he pulled her into his arms. She was right where she needed to be, with her new mate.
Chapter Fifteen
They couldn’t lie together for long. They were both completely naked, their clothes in tatters, and there was always a chance Gregory had gone back to the pack to try to round together some backup. Alyssa doubted he would do this as it would mean he’d have to admit he had lost a fight to another wolf, and possibly jeopardize his place as pack alpha, but she didn’t want to risk hanging around here for long.
“I need to find some clothes,” she told Callum.
“I didn’t think to bring any women’s clothing, but there are a couple of blankets in my car. They’ll have to do for now.”
Hand in hand, Alyssa no longer self-conscious of her naked body, they made their way back to the barn. The walk was farther than she’d anticipated. In her panic, she hadn’t realized she’d covered such a great distance.
“What happened to Gregory and Valerie?” she asked as they walked.
“Last I saw of them, they were running off with their tails between their legs. I expect they’ve gone back to your pack.”
“My old pack,” she corrected, but not without a twisting of her stomach. Would she ever get to say goodbye to her brothers? Different packs didn’t socialize—to do so was seen as a betrayal—so chances were she would never get to see them again.
He squeezed her hand. “Yes, your old pack.”
Eventually, they reached the barn. The spot where Gregory’s truck had been parked was now empty.
Callum walked toward his car and opened the rear door to retrieve a blanket for her and a spare pair of jeans for himself. “I’m sure your old alpha got the message.”
“Good. I hope I never have to see him again.”
Callum’s lips pressed together and he glanced away.
“What?” she said.
“Let’s just hope he doesn’t decide to take revenge. I don’t think a guy like Gregory is going to take kindly to being beaten by a stranger and having his prize girl stolen out from under his nose.”
Rustling came from the undergrowth, and Callum automatically positioned himself to stand in front of her, protecting her from whatever threat was heading their way.
Two young men broke through the trees, one tall with long dark hair and bulked with muscle, the other blond and lean in stature.
Her heart leaped, but then plummeted again. Holton and Joel! Her brothers. Though she was thrilled to see them, she worried about their reason for coming. Would they try to fight Callum and then drag her back to the shifter compound on the Black Ridge Hills? Would they sense she had been mated, and so she wouldn’t be able to go with them even if she wanted to?
“We heard what happened,” said Joel. “We couldn’t just let you leave without saying goodbye.”
Holton stepped forward, his gaze flicking to Callum, but with none of the animosity she had expected. “We’re happy for you, Alyssa, honestly. Both of us hated the thought of you being with Gregory, but we didn’t have the balls to do anything about it. It looks like our little sister has bigger stones than us.”
Joel reached out and shook Callum’s hand. “I can’t say I approve of how you did it, but we have to thank you for giving Alyssa a different future.”
“We’re starting up our own pack. You can come with us?” she asked hopefully.
He shook his head. “Not yet. We need to keep an eye on Gregory for the moment, but we’ll find you should the time come.”
She pressed her lips together, and nodded, trying to hold back tears. Unable to contain her emotions, she flung herself at her brothers, hugging them both tight.
Joel glanced down at the blanket she still had wrapped around her curvy frame. “Oh, hell, I almost forgot.” He reached down to lift a bag she hadn’t noticed, but was placed at his side. “We figured you would need your things. It’s not all of it, but we knew if we didn’t bring your belongings, Gregory would probably burn the lot. It’s some clothes, some old photographs. Things to remember us by.”
Tears welled in her eyes. “I’ll never forget you.”
Holton smiled. “We’ll see each other again. This isn’t goodbye, it’s see you later.” Her big brother gave her a wink and her heart swelled with her love for him.
Callum was standing at the open door of his car, one arm resting on the roof. “You ready to go, darlin’?”
She nodded and blew both her brothers a kiss. They sent the kiss back, and then turned the way they’d come and strode off into the forest.
Alyssa climbed into the passenger seat, her bag on her lap. She just wanted to get out of here now. She’d pull out some clothes and dress while Callum drove.
Callum pulled the driver’s door shut and started the engine. He looked over at her, and then leaned in and gave her a kiss.
“Are you ready for this?” he asked.
“I’m ready,” she confirmed.
And she was. They’d start their own pack, and instead of being the underdog, she would be the alpha female.

WOLF TORN
The Dark Ridge Wolves
Book Two
Marissa Farrar
Chapter One
She ran through the forest surrounding their compound in the Dark Ridge Hills. Four feet struck the ground as she galloped, soft pads against rough dirt and sharp stones. Her nostrils flared, hot breath snorting in the pine-scented air. Her tongue lolled from her mouth, her lips stretched in a happy grin, as she ran through bush and splashed through river. The dappled sunlight of late evening filtered through the canopy of branches overhead, the light dreamy and fractured like that of an underwater world. Insects flitted; clouds of midges circling, and larger butterflies landing on flowers, only to be scattered as she bounded past.
Something moved ahead of her, a quick flash of white in the undergrowth, warm-blooded and alert with fear.
Rabbit.
Yes, she scented a rabbit.
Ruby felt alive with the hunt, but she was also aware of a second wolf running parallel to her path. Unable to see him through the thick expanse of trees and bushes, she nevertheless knew he was there. She smelled him on the air as keenly as she’d scented Flopsy. His musky wolf scent, distinctly male. He matched her pace in synchronized rhythm, and her keen ears heard that, too—the thud each time his paws hit the ground.
The rabbit darted for its warren, but the second wolf leaped across its path, causing the small mammal to do a back-flip, changing direction. Ruby read this in the motion of the air, in the change of scent and the movement the creature caused. It was running back her way now. The other wolf had sent it directly into her path. The little rabbit realized its mistake a fraction too late. It tried to stop, its large hind legs kicking in the dirt, but Ruby had already lunged, her powerful jaws snapping shut.
