As Doug drove the truck up under the carport behind the house, he smiled in that same beautiful way he smiled on the first day I met him.
“Oh gosh, Carlie. How’d you know? It’s perfect. Perfect.”
There sitting at the end of the drive was a rusty old John boat just waiting to be launched into Reelfoot Lake…where the eagles nest…and mate for life.
