“Credit cards are for niggas who ain’t got cash,” he quickly shot back. “Now get your smart ass out my house.”

“Yuh rude ass gaan get enough of chatting to mi like dat,” I mumbled, turning on my heels to leave out the door.

“Speak English wit’ ya’ foreign ass.” I didn’t even respond to him. I just shut his door and me and Missy proceeded towards her purple Porsche.

“This is a really nice car,” I complimented when I slid into the vanilla leather. “You paid for this yourself?”

“Hell yeah I did. Just because both my brothers are sitting on bags of money don’t mean I eat off them. I made, Snoop buy my bar and my clothing shop so I could have my own. I went to college and got my business degree and at twenty-two I own two of them. I barely need they asses anymore.”

It was both inspiring and encouraging to know that Missy was so young making her own money. I had always depended on my father for everything, so I didn’t even know what hard work looked or felt like. I barely had to lift a finger when it came to doing anything. My father did everything for me. I never even had my own car. That’s why I drive so crazy. My father and his men always drove me where I wanted to go. I did nothing on my own.

“So, do you have a boyfriend?” I changed the subject. I wasn’t trying to be nosey but I sensed that I was going to be spending a lot of time with Missy. I actually really liked her.

“I got a couple of them,” she responded, sticking out her tongue and dancing in her seat. I could tell she was the type of girl that liked to have fun. “I’m playing with you girl. I been with my boyfriend, Quan for about six years now.”

“Damn. That’s a long time. Y’all need to be the ones getting married. Not me and, Compton. I can’t stand his ass.” I rolled my eyes just thinking about him.

“Mmmhm. For someone who can’t stand him you sure do have a twinkle in your eye when your around him. I saw the way y’all was looking at each other. A blind man can see the attraction.”

“It may be attraction there, but it only goes as far as looks. Compton is sexy but his attitude sucks. He’s rude, arrogant and is a straight up ass,” I honestly expressed.

Missy glanced from me back to the road before letting out a loud laugh. “Giiiirl, I can’t wait to see how y’all act when that knot is tied. You like him and you know it. Neither one of y’all is fooling anyone. Especially with that big ass hickey on your neck. You just couldn’t wait till the honeymoon to get the D huh?” She giggled.

Quickly pulling down her visor to look in the mirror, I turned my head to see what she was talking about. There it was clear as day. A huge ass reddish purple passion mark on my neck. I was at loss of words. I could have sworn I was dreaming this morning. “It had to be a dream,” I said under my breath, shaking my head. I kept looking back in the mirror as if it was going to disappear but it went nowhere. It was real. He really did do those things to me this morning.

“Don’t feel ashamed. We done all been there. He was just being a man and leaving his mark so other niggas won’t try you. This your first time getting one?”

“Yes. My first and last. It kind of hurt. If I can’t take a hickey what am I gone do with a dick.” Now that I saw what Compton was working with, to be honest, I was terrified of it. I may have wanted to know what it felt like at first, but that was in that moment. I was all talk. I wasn’t ready for what he had to offer in that department. I’m sure he was going to damaged my uterus before I could even have any of his kids.

“Girl you talking like you’re a virgin or something.” She laughed. When I didn’t say anything she glanced over at me with a surprised look on her face. “Biiiitch. Uh huh. You ain’t never had sex before?” She sounded surprised.

I hesitated for a minute but she was going to find out sooner or later. “Nope. I’m pure as the virgin Mary herself.”

“Compton just might fall in love with your young ass,” she uttered, laughing.

The remainder of the drive to the mall was pretty smooth. When we finally got to our destination, Missy couldn’t wait to play dress up with me. We went into every name brand store in the mall and she picked out all of my clothes. I was more of a sneakers and sweats type of girl, but Missy wasn’t having that. I was a soon to be wife of a Kingpin. I had to look the part.

After we left the mall, she took me to a salon to get my hair, nails and toes done. My father never wanted me to put heat to my hair so I just got it deep conditioned and my ends clipped. I had them pin it up into a nice bun for the sake of being elegant. I agreed to a little make up for a natural look, but no dramatics. After we left, we went back to Compton’s house and hung out for a few hours. Once it was time to go, we hurried up and got dressed and left out.

  Let the fakeness begin.

  The Engagement Party

Pulling up to the gated all white mansion, my nerves grew big seeing all the cars parked in the driveway. We were at Mr. and Mrs. Banks’ home and I knew all their family members were going to be there. As far as I know, the only people that knew about our arrangement was his parents, Missy, Snoop and his uncle Ice who lived out in Jamaica. To everyone else, I was his real-life fiancé. I had to prove to them that all this was real, so they wouldn’t get suspicious.

“Missy my palms are so sweaty that I’m sure my fingers can slide right off my hands. What if they catch on to us?” I worried as I exited her car.

“Well for your sake you better hope they don’t. This family ain’t nowhere near the Huxtables. They straight savages, robbers and killers. I mean criminals at its finest. They would sell their own momma out for some money, so be cool. The slightest sense of fakeness that they spot, they will run with it. People would pay good money to find out about you, and Compton’s family don’t have no problem with snitching. It’s always that one family member that will do and say anything to get money and you are a walking bank. You got a bunch of them in here so get your Halle Berry on.” Missy instructed, grabbing my hand and pulling me towards the door.

I couldn’t even breathe, let alone knock on the door before it flew open. Mrs. Banks gorgeous self was standing at the door with a huge smile on her face. She put me in the minds of Taraji P. Henson. The one that plays Cookie on Empire. “There’s my beautiful daughter in law,” she greeted me, looking back into the house before pulling into a hug. “Pink was an excellent choice boo. You look like a good girl. Now where the hell is my damn son?” she asked in my ear.

“All I was instructed to do was show up and pretend. Keeping tabs on your son was not a part of my job duties for the night,” I sassed. She gave me that look that told me that I better had be quiet.

“Neither was showing up to your engagement dinner with a big ass hickey on your neck. He couldn’t wait till after the wedding to get the pussy?”

“That’s what I said, Momma Banks,” Missy added. I just stayed quiet.

“Well we don’t have time to do anything about it now. We’ll just come up with a good lie about why he hasn’t shown up yet. Let’s get in here and put on the fakest smiles and tell the worst lies. His family is getting antsy.” Pulling us into her home, she shut the door behind us. Looking over my attire and appearance one more time, she wrapped her arm around mine and we walked into the living room. The inside of her house was dripped in gold, expensive statues and had the whitest marble floors I ever seen. The ceilings stood high and hanging from them were gold chandeliers. Their home was lovely. Looked like it came straight out the set of Empire.

“Family! My soon to be daughter in law has arrived,” she announced, gathering up everyone’s attention. It was like the entire house stood still and fell silent. All eyes were on me. If I wasn’t nervous before, I was most definitely nervous now. “Family this is the lovely, Caliana. Caliana this is your soon to be new family,” she introduced us, smiling.

Swallowing the lump in my throat, I got ready to say something but someone cut me off. “Uhh, if my cousin yo’ so called fiancé, why ain’t his ass here right nah?” a dar
k beauty asked in a very ghetto accent. “You must not be that important,” she added, popping her gum. I could feel how much dislike she had for me by the way she kept mugging me up and down.

Just before I was about to answer her question, the front door opened and in walked Compton. I glanced over my shoulder at him but when I saw how he was dressed; I almost broke my neck to get a better look at him. He wore a pair of Saint Laurent black jeans, an all-black Gucci button up and on his feet, were some all black Gucci sneakers. He was dressed to impressed ready to fake it till we made it. He showed up just in time.

  CHAPTER 5

COMPTON: REAL LIES AND FAKE FIANCE

I just knew by the look on my mother’s face that she was heated. Luckily my old man was in his man cave with my uncles. I wasn’t in the mood to hear his ass bitch about me being late. Some shit went down and Snoop and I had to handle it. It was pretty messy so I made a pit stop at my crib to change my fit. On top of that I had to stop by Monique’s place and let off a round. I know I keep saying I’m gone be done with her, but I was serious when I said I needed pussy after a kill.

“Nice of you join us, son,” my mother said in a stressed tone. She pulled me into her and hugged me tight. “If you fuck this up, I promise I will beat your black ass. You ain’t too old to get an ass whoopin’,” she threatened in my ear.

“I love you too, ma,” I replied with a fake smile. When I caught glimpse of Cali, I whistled in approval. She was wearing the hell out of a light pink knee length dress. The gold Giuseppe Zanotti heels she wore accented her gold bangles around her wrist. Missy did her thing with her. She didn’t even look like the same girl I met yesterday. Her appearance made it easy for me to play the part of her fiancé.

“Damn. My bitch badder than a bag of money. Come show Daddy some love witcho’ cute ass,” I said to Cali, biting the corner of my bottom lip. I wasn’t gone pretend to be a gentleman. That wasn’t me. Everybody knew how blunt I was and wasn’t no need to start changing that shit now.

She hesitated a little but she flashed my family a smile before walking over to me. She wasn’t moving fast enough for me so I pulled her by her wrist and closed the gap between us. When she wrapped her arms around my neck, I embraced her back with my arms around her small waist. Her sweet Victoria secret perfume invaded my nose and I felt dizzy. Placing a kiss on her neck, I noticed the hickey I had placed on it from this morning.

“Why you ain’t cover that shit up?” I quizzed with my lips pressed against her ear.

“Because I forgot and you shouldn’t have put it there in the first place nasty” she snapped in a hushed tone before pulling away from me.

“Well now that the two guest of honor are here, let’s eat!” My mother shouted, grabbing Cali by the hand. I could tell that she actually liked her. Monique was the only girl she met and she could barely stand the sight of her ass. “Compton go tell, Daddy that dinner is ready. And tell him if he come up here smelling like them stinky ass cigars, he’s going to regret it,” she warned.

Laughing her warning off, I tapped Snoop on the chest and tilted my head towards the basement. My old man had the entire downstairs turned into his man cave. He had pool tables, games, a bar, stripper poles and everything else a man cave needed. When we got down the stairs, I spotted all three of my uncles and my four cousins. I wasn’t close with none of them except my uncle Ice and his son, my cousin Sean.

“Aye old man!” I called out getting everyone attention. “Your wife said get that ass upstairs and don’t be smellin’ like them Cubans.” Kissing his lips, he blew my statement off and dapped me up.

“Your momma better leave me the hell alone and spray some damn air freshener,” he responded, laughing.

“What’s going on nephew? I haven’t seen you in a year. Now you getting married. Where is the misses?” my Uncle Ice asked, playing roles. He knew damn well what was up. He was our connect out in Jamaica so he knew the deal.

“I know, Unc. I ain’t young C no mo’. I’m grown as hell now. But my lil’ momma upstairs probably getting interrogated by all y’all wives and sisters. You know they don’t think no bitch is good enough for me.”

“Yeah, well that’s your aunties and cousins for you. Let’s get up here and eat before they come down fussin’ and shit. I ain’t tryin’ to hear your Aunty Candy’s mouth.” Uncle Ice took the lead up the stairs. I greeted the rest of my family and they had some questions about me and Cali but I dodged them like bullets. Especially my Uncle Raz. He was the grimiest nigga in my family, so I knew he wanted the info. Cali and I didn’t even have a story prepared on how we met or how I proposed or anything. This was going to be an interesting dinner.

“I saw your girl when I got here and she a good look for you cuzo. She seems pretty cool although I ain’t talk to her. You should think about getting to know her. You might actually like her ass,” Sean said to me after everyone went upstairs.

“Nah I’m straight on that. This is some pretend shit and it’s gone remain some pretend shit. Plus, I ain’t ready to give up the hoes.” I cheesed, rubbing my hands together.

“I feel you on that doe. But you don’t know women until you had you a Jamaican bitch. They the truth for real,” he added.

“I do love the foreign, but I’m stickin’ wit’ the bitches that know to speak English. Cali be talkin’ that rah rah shit and I don’t be understanding none of it.” I laughed. We chopped it up for a minute and then we joined the rest of the family upstairs. My mom had her long dining room table set for eighteen. We had a big family. I took a seat next to Sean and my mother shot me an evil stare. Just then I remembered I was supposed to be sitting next to Cali. “Oh shit,” I mumbled under my breath, getting up to go sit next to her.

“Oh wow. Who forgets that they should be sitting next to their soon to be wife?” My Aunty Mel asked sarcastically. “Looks suspicious to me.”

The bullshit was about to start.

“Yeah, Compton. This is very sudden and out of the blue don’t you think? I mean we didn’t even know you were seeing anyone let alone getting married. We always thought it was going to be Monique, but I guess her sleeping with your best friend ruined that,” my other Aunty Vette added. I couldn’t stand her fat ass. She always had something to say. I was tempted to throw a biscuit in her mouth to make her shut up.

“You sure this isn’t some scheme, nephew?” My uncle Raz quizzed. His snake ass was waiting for the scoop so he could go do some sneaky shit.

“First off, I ain’t got to explain shit to y’all mutha’ fuckas’. Y’all lucky I’m even introduced y’all to her. Matter of fact…fuck-,” I was saying but Cali put her hand on my thigh. I don’t know why, but I immediately got calm. It was something about her touch that relaxed every muscle in my body. That shit had never happened before.

“Well if I may speak, Compton and I have been off and on for about a year now. Once we finally got our situation together, we decided that this is what we wanted. We love each other and we’re getting married. You all don’t have to accept it, or even care, but I ask that you respect our decision without question,” she maturely responded.

“Then if y’all so much in love, why haven’t we heard anything about you? It’s like, Compton pulled you out of a hat like a magician,” Dana, my cousin sneered.

“We just wanted to make sure this was what we wanted before we told anyone about us. With his occupation, it was best to keep our relationship a secret for my safety.” Cali was quick on her toes with her responses. I just sat back and let her do all the talking. She seemed like she had it all under control.

“Hmmm. So how you both meet?” Uncle Raz asked.

I guess that question caught us both off guard because we eye each other at the same time. She got a little tongue tied so I figured I’d help her out. “We met in Jamaica about a year ago maybe,” I answered, scratching my head as if I was unsure. “I was driving wit’, Snoop sightseeing when we passed her walking. One look at her bad ass and I had to stop and sa
y sumthin’. She was hard to get at first, but eventually I got that ass. She been mine ever since.”

My family mumbled some shit under their breath while staring at us. “You sure you’re not just trying to get my, nephew’s money? You seem like one of them gold-digging’ bitches. Or maybe you’re pregnant?” Dana badgered.

Clearing her throat, Cali sat up straight in her chair. “Despite what you may think about me, I’m not money hungry. I have money of my own and I don’t need Compton or his family’s financial support. At only nineteen years old, I’m a very independent young lady. And to answer your question, I’m not pregnant. I happen to still be a virgin not that it’s any of your business anyway,” Cali answered, revealing to me that she was indeed a virgin. I almost spit my damn drink out my mouth. I wasn’t into virgins whatsoever. I rather have my bitch’s dick knowledgeable. I didn’t have time for the crying about how it hurt and telling me to stop every five seconds. Though it was surprising to know no man has fucked her, I was gone dick her down regardless. Pussy was still pussy. Used or unused.

“My son has made his decision to get married to Cali and we as a family will support him. This wedding is happening in five days so either be there or don’t. Tee and I won’t give a shit either way. We just wanted to be considerate and include the family in this union. So now that y’all are done interrogating my daughter in law, let’s eat. This whole question and answer shit got me hungry as hell.” After my old man said his peace everyone shut the fuck up. The food was served by their maid Maria and we ate.

About an hour had passed and I checked my watch seeing that I had a meeting to get to. “This was all nice and shit but I got to dip. Snoop let’s roll,” I announced, getting up from my chair and walking away from the table.

“Damn nephew. No hug and kiss for the wife to be,” Uncle Raz called out, shaking his head. I cursed myself in my head because I kept forgetting about her ass.
