#1.5 Finding Autumn
Page 18
She blushed and let out a nervous laugh. “Oh my god, I just got so excited!” She twirled a finger in my direction. “Go ahead.”
“Autumn Dorey, will you be my forever and marry me?”
“Yes. I’ll always be yours,” she said happily and crawled over the blanket to me. Our glasses were knocked over, but we were unfazed. I could only see her, and by the way she took me in with her eyes, I was positive she felt the same way.
Holding her left hand in mine, I used my free hand to slip the ring on her finger. The ring was stunning, and I loved the way it looked on her. I had chosen a two-carat round diamond surrounded by smaller accent diamonds set in a halo formation on the platinum band. I considered Autumn my angel, so it suited her perfectly.
I buried my hands in her hair and went in for a kiss. She tasted so good, and I couldn’t think of a better send-off. I thought maybe getting engaged would make it harder to leave, but it wasn’t the case. Our engagement was a promise that we’d wait for each other. Football wasn’t it for me—Autumn was the endgame. It would be a tough two years waiting for her, but she was worth it. She had fought for us—given us a chance when everyone said she should walk away—and I understood we would have our forever.
“I love you, Blake Preston. I love you impossibly and completely.” She had so much joy in her voice, and I couldn’t stop the shit-eating grin erupting on my face. I was finally content, and each second I was with her… I fell deeper in love.
All of my uncertainty about leaving faded away. We would be together—there were no more doubts in my mind. Distance couldn’t break the strength of our connection. Nothing and no one could break us. I trusted in what we had and could see the thousands of adventures that lay ahead of us.
