The next week flies by and I bump into Jonathan at the library a few times. He is super chill about it and just waves at me or says hey and asks how I am. I’m so happy that he isn’t trying to start anything and I can just have a friend for once. One day he comes in disheveled and looking like he hasn’t slept in two days. He doesn’t say anything and just heads upstairs. I see what direction he heads and follow him up. Maybe he is wanting a room and didn’t want to stand in the return line.
“Hey stranger, need a study room?”
“No not today. I have an English paper due and I just need to write. If I go in a room I’ll get distracted by my music or a beautiful girl may walk by or something. Anyway, thanks for the offer but I’m okay.
“Jonathan, do you need anything else? I can help if you need some guidance as far as the paper goes. I am in advanced English so I may be able to point you in the right direction.”
“Well if you have the time. It’s due at the end of the week and I started it but it’s a work in progress still and it’s killing me. I just want to finish it.”
“Do you mind if I look at it?” I spend a good half hour looking over it, making notes, and encouraging him. By the end of it he was quite confident that he was going to get a good grade on it. We both head home. I feel like I was helping Rachel or Jozlyn the whole time. I feel like he is a true friend. I feel safe with him and he is patient with me unlike most people. I am not looking for anyone to be with, but if I were he would have a lot of the qualities I’m looking for. My phone vibrates and I look down at it. It’s from Jonathan.
“Do you have a boyfriend?”
