“No, wait, Qamar, stay for a little bit. Being here can cheer you up.” I cheesed and touched his hand that was resting on the table.
“Who the fuck said I needed cheering up, Bia?” he hissed, balling his face up as he snatched from me. I felt my smile drop as I looked into his eyes. It was like he was someone else, and not the man who had helped me make food for my mother.
“Baby, I understand what’s going on,” I attempted to speak softly, to let him know that I wasn’t judging him.
“You don’t understand shit, and stop fucking talking about shit you know nothing about! I gave yo’ nosey ass one piece of fucking information, and now you a damn doctor or some shit?”
He was so loud that people around were starting to look. Not in the mood for his flip flopping ass, I got up without another word and went to check the kitchen for Cody’s food. It was ready, so I grabbed it up and walked it over to his table.
“Hey, are you okay?” Cody quizzed as I set the plates in front of him. “I heard that nigga yelling at you.”
“Yeah, I’m fine. He’s just having a bad day. Can I get you anything else, or are you good?”
“Nah, I’m good, but I wanted to ask you something, if that’s aight?”
“Okay.”
“I was wondering if maybe I could take you out sometime. I think you’re a beautiful girl, and I just wanna show you a good time.”
Chuckling, I squinted my eyes as I stared down at this boy. “Cody, you do realize I’m dating your father, right?”
“I mean, yeah, but that nigga is old. We the same age, so don’t you think I’m more of your style?” Cody brushed his hand down my hip, so I backed away.
“What the fuck is going on here?” Qamar popped up out of nowhere. “You fucking this nigga, Bia?”
Turning to face him, I replied, “No, I’m not fucking him!”
“You better not be. I better be the only nigga fucking you, you hear me?” Qamar pointed his finger in my face condescendingly, making me look away for a moment. He reached to choke me, but thankfully, Cody wasn’t having it. I was irritated that he was here earlier, but at the moment I was thankful Cody was around to save me in a sense.
“Nigga, back up off of her, she’s a damn female!” Cody shot up and stepped between us, getting in the way of Qamar putting his hands on me. “Qamar?” he quizzed, realizing who he was now.
“Nigga, back yo’ stupid ass up! I do whatever the fuck I want with my bitch, and it ain’t none of ya damn business,” Qamar gritted.
Oh my gosh.
Before I could even interject, Cody punched Qamar in the face, and the two of them began throwing punches. Cody was actually winning at first, but Qamar eventually snapped and began fucking him up. Then Cody overpowered him, and then it just kept switching. I actually thought they were gonna kill one another, judging by the deranged look in Qamar’s eyes and the velocity of Cody’s hits.
“You guys, stop!” I screeched.
“Hey! Hey!” Two of the security guards rushed over to pull the two men apart, and then escorted them out through different exits.
I scanned the place, and every patron in here, as well as my co-workers, were staring hard at me. I was so fucking angry with Qamar that I didn’t know what to do. It was like every time he convinced me to maybe give him a chance, he did some shit to turn me off. Between his violent mood swings, the coke, and his disrespectful nature towards me, I was so turned off at the moment. He needed to get some fucking help, and unless he did, I wasn’t fucking with his ass. Not to mention, he’d basically told Cody about us fucking, and I’m sure he would tell his father.
Going to the locker area, I sat down. Since no one was in here, I just screamed. One person could only take so much, and I didn’t understand why the hell God felt like I was strong enough to endure this all.
I had an hour and a half left in my shift, so once that was completed, I left. I didn’t want to go home just yet, so I texted Draylah to see if she was awake. She was, so I headed over, and when she let me in, I saw her on the couch with the girl Kattlyn that she’d hired. Kattlyn was pretty cool, and I liked that she was laid back like Draylah and me. She was nothing like loud ass, ratchet, Angie.
“Want some Chinese food?” Draylah lifted one of the many boxes they had spread all over the coffee table.
“Sure.” I went to wash my hands in the kitchen, and then came back to sit down on the couch. “Y’all ordered this?”
“No, I texted Ricky that I was craving Chinese food and he brought it.”
“Even though y’all are broken up?” I chuckled.
“Same thing I said,” Kattlyn commented.
Draylah had psycho ass Ricky wrapped around her finger. I don’t know what she did to him, or what he did to her, but their crazy asses deserved one another. They were that couple that would commit a murder together and then sleep soundly the same night. It was wild, but a love like that was desirable for me right now. I snickered at my thoughts as I ate some food.
The three of us ate, watched some TV, and talked, and I was happy to know I wasn’t tripping about wanting to cut Qamar off. I was especially backed by them when he texted me to see what I was doing like he didn’t just act a damn fool at my job. I had no problem dating a savage ass nigga, but I wanted him to be savage in the streets yet handle me with care. Not only did Qamar not do that, but his crazy wasn’t the sexy kind; it was the scary kind.
Around 11 p.m., I headed home because I wanted to get to sleep. I was off work tomorrow, and I planned to take full advantage of that by sleeping for as long as I could. After locking the front door, I walked through the living room towards my bedroom. Placing my purse down, I headed to the bathroom so I could get ready for a shower, but the voices coming from Taya’s bedroom caught me off guard.
“What the hell?” I checked the time on my iPhone to make sure I wasn’t tripping. Taya had better had one of her little girlfriends over at this time of night.
Walking into her room, I was baffled to see her and Flow in her little ass twin bed. He was tickling her, and she was laughing so hard that she didn’t see me. “Are y’all fucking serious!” I shouted.
“Bia!” Taya jumped up, twiddling her thumbs with her eyes wide as saucers.
“I’m gonna handle you in a second.” I glared at her then turned my attention towards Flow. “FYI, nigga, any girl with a twin bed is too damn young for you. Get your pedophile ass out of my house before I call the police!”
“Aight, damn. We wasn’t even doing shit like that.” He had the nerve to suck his teeth.
“I don’t know that, but like I said, get to stepping before one time hems your ass up for trying to fuck a teenager.”
Flow said nothing in response as he walked out of the room past me. If he wasn’t so tall, I would have tried to fight his ass. I made sure he left, and then locked the door back before going back to Taya’s room.
“Bia, I swear, I—”
WHAM!
I slapped the dog shit out of her, making her head turn the other way. Gripping her cheek, she turned back to me slowly as tears dripped down her face.
“You are sixteen fucking years old, Taya, and that is a grown ass man! He doesn’t want shit from you but some pussy, and once he gets it, he’s gonna cut your ass off.”
“You don’t know that!”
“Yeah I do! And if he does keep you around, it will only be to manipulate you and turn you into a dependent bitch that he can treat like shit!”
“I am not you, Bia! Guys like me! They want me! Any man in this world would be lucky to have me!”
“Is that what he told you?” I laughed. “Wow, you are dumber than I thought, Taya. But I guess that’s my fault. Niggas will tell you the sky is purple just because it’s your favorite color, if it will get them closer to fucking you.”
“No, they do that to you! They lie to you, Bia, and sleep with you then throw you away. Isn’t that why Qamar hasn’t been around as much? You never have a man!”
I wanted to choke her until she turned blue, but I had to admit that she’d hurt my feelings. Like most women, at a young age, I’d fallen for niggas who told me anything just to fuck me, but I took it as a lesson learned. However, to see that my little sister felt this way about me, hurt, and very deeply.
“I don’t have a man because I’m too busy taking care of your ungrateful ass. But you don’t have to worry about that anymore, Taya. When you wanna go somewhere and you need money, you better ask your man because you will never get another dime from me.”
“I’m sure I can get it from him.” She shrugged, cheek bloodshot red from me slapping her. The sight satisfied me.
“Perfect,” was all I said as I turned on my heels and left.
Shit, more money for me.
Chapter Four: Draylah
Grand Opening …
Tonight was my grand opening, and I was so excited yet nervous. I decided to have it at night, because I wanted it to be like a party, where people could come check the place out and actually spend a little time here. Ricky’s manager, Avalon, suggested it, saying if people spent time here, they’d most likely come back. She always had some bomb ass opportunities for Ricky, so I was definitely gonna listen to her.
“Hey, boo.” Virginia came in, holding a gift bag. “For you.”
“Hey, you did not have to get me anything.” I hugged her after taking the bag. “But thank you.”
“Welcome. You look so nice in that dress, girl. How are you feeling though?” She gave me a knowing look.
“He told you? I can’t believe him.” I should have known Ricky’s ass couldn’t keep this secret until I was three months. I swear he got on my damn nerves.
Bia and Kattlyn got here just before everyone else started to arrive. I’d put up the flyers I had created, on my Instagram, and because I had way more followers now, a bunch of people showed up. I had three of my employees ready to do some brows, and while some of the women got theirs done, everyone else mingled while drinking champagne and munching on the small snacks I had available. Everything was perfect at the moment, but I was wondering if Ricky was gonna show up. Technically, he didn’t have to since he was no longer my man, but because we’d had so many talks about it, it felt weird with him not being here.
Right when the thought crossed my mind, Ricky walked through the door looking so good that my pussy got wet immediately. He was wearing a fresh white Balenciaga polo shirt, with a crisscross pattern on the collar, dark jeans, and some cool gray Bred 11s. His cologne traveled throughout my shop, and the diamonds he had on danced. For a moment, I stood there, taking him in as if I’d never seen his fine ass before. His deep caramel skin was so vibrant, and the tattoos that decorated his neck and muscular arms gave him such a sexy thug appeal. He looked so damn good that I didn’t even realize his deejay was with him.
As he neared me, I felt my breath get caught in my throat. We made eye contact, and he simply kissed my lips, handed me the roses he was holding, and then kept it pushing. I spoke to Wonder, as my eyes followed Ricky. He grabbed a snack, and when he sat down, a couple of women flocked to him and his deejay.
“Damn, I guess he’s getting the hint now, huh?” Bia said, taking a sip of her champagne.
“I guess so,” I replied.
I tried to ignore him and continue on, taking pictures with some people and conversing with others. And even though Ricky wasn’t entertaining these thirsty women, them being all over him still infuriated me, especially because of that whack ass greeting he’d given me.
I made my way over to him, pushing my way through the people, and when I got up to where he was, I stood there.
He was deep into a phone conversation through email and not text knowing him, but when he saw me, he slowly lifted his head.
“Can I talk to you for a minute, please?” I turned to walk off, but stopped in my tracks at his response.
“Nah.”
“Excuse me?”
“We ain’t got shit to talk about.” He sat back, as some of the girls nearby focused on me like they were waiting on my response. “Enjoy ya shit and I’ll get at you before I dip.”
“Ricky, it’s about the baby,” I lied.
His demeanor changed immediately which I found to be adorable, and he got up to follow me to the back where my office was. Once we got into the office, I closed the door.
“What the hell are you doing?”
“Chilling. You said this was gon’ be about the baby, so what the fuck you gotta say, Draylah?”
“I lied. Now how dare you come in here, kiss me, and then act like you don’t wanna talk?”
“Because I don’t wanna talk. You don’t wanna fuck with me because of some bitch that you know don’t even fucking matter. To me, this is some bullshit, Dray. You gon’ let that bitch fuck up some real shit?” he frowned. “If so, we don’t have shit to discuss.”
My chest heaved up and down as I let his words seep into my mind. I agreed with what he was saying, but I didn’t want to, because I wasn’t sure if I agreed because I wanted him back, or because what he was saying actually had some validity to it.
He just didn’t understand where I was coming from. The thought of him having been with Justice in that way, and having done it while he was fucking with me, disgusted me. Also, I didn’t know if I believed him about the timeline, considering she wasn’t even far along enough to have to get a surgical abortion. He’d probably gotten her pregnant around the same time as me for all I know.
“Be honest with me, Ricky. When did she start claiming that she was pregnant? Where were we in the relationship?”
I wanted to keep asking because my aunt always told me men were too stupid to keep up a lie. She said all you had to do was keep asking, and if it were a lie, details would slowly start to change because they were too dense and skittish to remember. Unlike women, who rehearsed their lies and practiced them with their homegirls, men just spit their lie out on the spot, making it harder to keep up with.
“We’d been together for like a month when she first started the shit,” he exhaled.
“So you fucked her while you were trying to get me to be with you in that case?” I sipped my water. “I need you to break it down for me right fucking now.”
I wasn’t playing with his ass, and depending on what the hell he said, I might just shank him again.
“Yes, trying. I fucked her, then we got together maybe a week later, for real for real. After about a month of us being in an official relationship, she started hitting my people up saying she was pregnant. I ignored the shit because like I said, she was a groupie female and that shit had happened to me hundreds of fucking times and was always a muthafuckin’ lie. Not to mention, I was extremely careful.
About a month and a half later, she was still at it, so at that point, I decided I was gon’ handle it. By the time I got her the abortion pills, it’d been about three months exactly that’d she’d been saying the shit, and the doctor I have on payroll said I needed to handle it now, if at all, so I did. I knew the baby wasn’t fucking mine, but it was either she got rid of it or I got rid of her. Simple. I wasn’t trying to give that bitch time to grow a belly and shit, and try fuck up what we had.” He shrugged like it was nothing. “I’d warned her to quit with the lies on multiple occasions, and since she didn’t …”
When he finished speaking, he gave me a look that said, ‘are we done here?’
“Did Glory, her friend with long golden hair, try to sleep with you?” I raised a brow and he nodded slowly.
“I was gon’ get some top but I didn’t. I wasn’t fucking with her like that after being around her, but the homies liked her, so I got her to suck them up by promising I’d fuck.”
Ugh. What the hell happened to the Glory I once knew?
“Okay, thank you. And thank you for coming.” I turned to leave, but he grabbed my arm to turn me back around.
“This is ya last gift.” He handed me a small black box, and then he held the door open fo
r me to walk out. Once out of my office, he took the lead.
I followed after him, and placed my water glass on the empty tray that one of my waiters was carrying. Lifting the top of the box, I saw a key fob with a Mercedes logo on it, so I rushed outside. People had already started to crowd up near the entrance, and when I broke through, I saw a matte black G-Wagon parked out front with a big red bow on the hood. I wanted to scream, but I couldn’t find my vocal chords at the moment, because I was stunned.
Slowly, I moved closer to the car, and Ricky opened the driver’s side for me with the cutest smile on his handsome face. I wanted to kiss him, but I refrained, and just climbed inside. This shit was so beautiful, and the new car smell was so invigorating at the moment.
“You like it?” Ricky inquired, closing the door. Bia, Virginia, Angie, my aunt Charlie, and Kattlyn rushed out along with others to inspect the car, and of course, paparazzi had showed up.
“Yes, it’s so beautiful.” I felt myself about to cry. These hormones had me going crazy.
Ricky had his tattooed arms resting in the door since the window was all the way down, and when I looked his way, he was just so adorable, so I gave him a small peck. See, this was why I needed to stay away from him.
“Well enjoy your gift, baby. I love you, and I know deep fucking down you know I’m sorry and would never do anything to hurt you. I’m gon’ give you some space, but don’t have any niggas around my baby, Draylah, or I’m gon’ act a fucking fool.”
“But the baby is still inside me, Ricky.”
Looking into my eyes with a serious and stern expression, he replied, “Exactly.”
“That is my type of man.” Angie shook her head as she watched Ricky walk to his car, ignoring the plethora of camera flashes on him. “Why did y’all break up again?”
“Shut up, Angie,” I replied.
I glanced at my aunt Charlie, who didn’t seem as thrilled as everyone else. Ever since I found out she and Ricky were in business together, it seemed like her opinion of him changed. I admit, I hadn’t dealt with her much lately because I found it odd that she pretended like she didn’t know him when I first brought him up. But I’d lost enough people, and I didn’t want to lose her over something seemingly small.
