Chapter Five – High and Low

The next morning Grasiella and Tatiana began their search of the house. They had decided that the best way to go about the search would be for each of them to take a floor and try not to let their Grandmother discover them. They weren’t quite sure how they would explain themselves should she find them looking around like thieves. They had agreed to meet back in their bedroom in an hour.

G spent that morning in her garden, leaving them alone in the house and without worry of her asking questions. It was best that G had no idea what her granddaughters were up to in her house that morning.

“I found nothing,” Tatiana said as Grasiella rushed into the room at the appointed hour. “How about you, did you find anything strange?”

“No,” Grasiella said. “I can’t use magic with the charm on the house, that charm is creating a block.” She knew that if her grandmother had used magic at all than she would have noticed a charm had been placed on the house and maybe she would have been able to remove it.

“I tried using magic too as I looked all over the house.” After a moment Tatiana asked her twin, “Did you check her office?”

“No, I thought I would leave that for you.”

The silence returned as neither wanted to volunteer. “We’ll go together,” they said simultaneously.

At the office door, Tatiana couldn’t help but to look over her shoulder as Grasiella turned the door knob and headed in first, leaving Tatiana to close the door quietly behind them.

“She keeps it very organized,” Grasiella muttered as an observation. “Look in the smallest places first,” she said as she crouched down to look under the desk. Finding no hidden compartments Grasiella stood and nearly knocked her head into a birdcage. “Why would she keep this empty bird cage in here?” Grasiella wondered aloud as she took it off the hook where it hung from the ceiling.

“It doesn’t look like anything’s in there,” Tatiana said as she took the green iron birdcage from her sister. “It looks pretty ancient.”

Forgetting about the birdcage Grasiella walked to the window. She could see her grandmother working in the garden below unaware of what was going on in her house. What would she think of them if she had known of what they suspected of her? “Why would she take a Fae captive? It doesn’t make any sense,” she said. “She doesn’t even use magic or she would have noticed the charm.”

“What do you think she’s planting?” Tatiana asked as she re-hung the green iron birdcage. She joined her sister at the window. “Maybe we should go see what she’s doing?”

“Do you know much about gardening?” Grasiella asked.

“No, but we can check the internet.” Tatiana said laughing. “How could she keep anything hidden down there?”

“We can ask Eros. Maybe he can tell us what’s going on with the Fae and our grandmother.”

“Kye didn’t seem to like him too much.”

“Why?” Grasiella asked. “Did he say anything to you about him?”

Sitting on top of the desk, Tatiana said, “Just that he didn’t like him too much. Come on lets get something to eat.” Tatiana was starving and with no food in the house they agreed to go into town.
