  "While they sat in our office with fuckin smile I wanted to punch off their faces, my Brothers gathered and took down ONE HUNDRED TWENTY SEVEN bikes and bikers." The men whoop, the women look sick. I feel sick too. That's a lot of people. Ben raises his hand, everyone quiets. "We have four wounded, three with gunshot wounds one a slide going fifty. Since it's warm our Brother was not prepared and he had no cover." People mumble. "Please remember our Brothers in Doc's rooms. Three of these Brothers have no family. Let them know they have us." He takes a breath, he feels bad for the men hurt. How sweet is he? "Baxter's are transporting one hundred twenty seven bodies with a chopper escort down the highway. The chopper will pick up the driver. We gave the outlaws the portable coffin. We'll report the truck stolen in one week." The men laugh. "Fourteen men, their wounded, were walked to the highway. I don't think they will be returning. Casper has a fuckin useless uniform car following them until they get picked up. The bikes are at salvage. Dave tells me quite a few are in decent condition. We decided to auction them off next Saturday. Go by salvage; find the bike of your dreams, parts that you need or a gift for a friend. Whatever the fuck you want to do with it. We will be giving the money to Tess, Patches and Rich's old lady. She can start her new life with room to breathe. Brothers she showed courage where not many would. Now she's protecting our babies at Millie's, remember her next Saturday. Tess has Officer Protection. Unanimous. Not one fuckin nay.   I'm still crying, Mary comes to me and wipes my face. She hugs me and tells me never doubt my worth to her, the PD and the club. I cry more. People are everywhere and I'm in the middle of the hallway crying. She lets me go giving me a towel. I laugh even though tears are still falling. Rich picks me up and carries me back down the hall. He kisses me and I stop crying. He makes my body tingle. When he puts me down he smiles at me. Patches is against my back. His arms are around my waist. Rich asks, "Happy tears?"

  I laugh, "Oh yes. I'm important like Patches now. I have my ID and even a check, now Ben told them I'm yours and I'm important. This is the best day of my life."

  "Fuck! We need a redo on the proposal Rich." Patches says kissing my neck. He sends shivers down my spine.

  Me and Rich crack up. They take me through the room again. There are men everywhere. They each have a hand and I look up a lot. Ben stops Rich; he hugs him thanking him for his skills. He tells him he is the best shot in Security, just don't tell Steve. We all laugh when Steve says, "Heard." I look at Steve he's smiling. He's so handsome happy. He should smile more. He nods at me, I smile back.

  "You're not so scary when you smile. I like it." Everyone laughs. Oh Dear Lord! I said that out loud. I look down.

  Steve lifts my chin. “It's ok. Like it when you're funny." I nod and smile then look at Patches he's smiling at me. I'm doing good again and Sally isn't here to see, Again! Ben notices my ID. I’m so happy I show him my check. I keep looking at them. Rich kisses my head letting me know he’s here and paying attention to me even if he’s looking at the guys.

  Danny buys us all a drink but I never see money move across the bar. I drink mine while they talk. Rich has his arm around my shoulder and Patches' arm is on my waist. They're making sure I feel protected. I'm feeling like we need to go to bed.

  I'm excited when we leave the bar but they go to the kitchen to eat. I show Sam my ID he thanks me for watching his little girl today. I get Petey coffee and we bring it to him. He’s tired though so we leave. We spend time with the kids playing scrabble with the older ones. I'm having fun but I want to go to bed. I'm in Rich's lap and I can feel he wants to go to bed too. Once the kids start leaving we finally go to our old room. Rich says the change is permanent; I like this room so I kiss them both. They growl at me.

I’ve never seen it as a problem. I’m happy you share that with her. He says it’s the same for you.” He signs, ‘It is. When you and Tess share anything I always feel happy to see it. I think it’s good for you, you deserve it.’ “That’s what he said it’s like. We need to make sure we watch out for each other and talk when there’s even the smallest problem so it doesn’t have a chance to become big.”

  “I think it’s good that we have people to help us through this. Their advice helps keep us moving the right way. I feel so lucky that Tess dreamed of us together and is here with us now. She is definitely everything to me and I know to you too.” He smiles.

  “Yeah.” I need to change the subject before I need fuckin tampons. “Did you know she was on birth control?”

  “No but I’m not surprised. Kate took her. She would always keep her safe, it’s just who she is.”

  “What was with Ben and the protection?” I can’t believe everyone threw her protection.

  “Prospect was moving over to her in Doc’s room. He walked in and got a bad feeling. She was in sub mode. Tiny was going to deal with him. Guess he told Pres. He was pissed.” He leans up on his elbow.

  Fuck! “Was she in flashback?”

  “Doc would have told me if she was. I brought Sally to her right after and she was fine. Sally was with her, then Tiny. She wasn’t left alone, Tiny made sure of it.” He lays back down. “Wish the rooms back there were on video. I’d like to find out what Prospect it was and beat the fuck out of him.”

  “Yeah.” I have nothing to add. Patches gets up and shuts the lights. I kiss Tess’ head and smile while I fall asleep thinking about my beautiful girl loving us so sweet.

  Eighteen

  One month

  Patches

  I’m getting married today! Karen helps me get dressed but no one is going to see us except Ben, Kate and Danny. I never dreamed of a wedding so I got to have what I want. Me and Patches wrote vows to Rich. Danny helped Rich with his vows to us. I’m so proud and happy to be with them. They keep telling me they are the lucky ones.

  It takes no time for me to be ready. Karen puts makeup on me and fixes my hair so pretty. I can’t believe it’s me in the mirror. I thought my hair looked nice when Jess and Kate took me to the salon and had it cut but Karen made it prettier.

  Sally comes in; I’m surprised to see her. She smiles with tears in her eyes. “I’m so damn proud of you Tess and so happy for you. Your men asked me to hold these until today. They were meant for your wedding day. She opens a box with the most beautiful necklace, bracelet and earrings in it. I just got my ears pierced two weeks ago. It probably won’t hurt to put the new earrings in for the day.

  “They are so beautiful. They already gave me a car. I only got them rings. Do I need something else?”

  Sally and Karen laugh. “No Tess. They love you. They want to give you everything. They already have your Christmas present put away. Those two are going to spoil you something fierce. Let them. You missed years of gifts. They want to make up for it.” Sally says putting the jewelry on me. Everything matches the light blue stone in my ring. “Beautiful. You are so beautiful Tessa LaPonte-Karr. Everyone is waiting to see the married Tess. Hurry up in there.”
