  Breaking Rules: Book 4

  Chapter 1

Susan Hopkins stared out the large picture window that looked out onto the gardens at the Chiltern Hotel. She had been working there for over two years now and still felt lucky for landing such a great job.

At twenty-six, she had found herself without a job and not knowing what to do with her life. A friend of hers suggested Hotel Management and seeing as Susan had always worked in that type of field, she figured, why not. Enrolling in the local college, she graduated two years later with honors and ready to start her new life.

The Chiltern Hotel was the most popular hotel around and the type of place that everyone wanted to work. Susan was lucky enough to secure a position in their restaurant, managing the waitresses, and taking care of the training.

She loved her job, and she loved the people she worked with. With a small circle of friends, Susan felt her life was complete. The only thing that was missing was a man, but Susan knew that one day he would come.

Susan had one semi-serious boyfriend who she had given her virginity to, but after he broke her heart, she vowed to wait until she met her Prince Charming before having sex again, which always amazed her friend Rachel who also worked at the front desk of the hotel.

“I can’t believe you aren’t having sex regularly,” Rachel said one night after work when they went to the bar for drinks. “Doesn’t it bother you?”

Taking a sip of her gin and tonic, Susan laughed. “There are other ways to be satisfied. It doesn’t necessarily have to be penetration.”

“Yea, I know that, but there is so much more than just sticking a dick into it. There’s the skin to skin contact, the kissing, the touches, teasing, and everything else,” Rachel said, closing her eyes. “Why just last night, I—”

“I don’t want to hear it,” Susan said, putting her hands on her ears and laughing. “What I don’t know won’t hurt me.”

“Oh, Susan, you don’t know what you are missing. Just because you got hurt once doesn’t mean you can’t have sex. There are lots of guys out there just looking for a one night stand who can satisfy you.”

“Yea, so all the more reason for me to wait until THE RIGHT GUY comes along,” Susan said, finishing her drink and holding up her empty glass to signal the bartender for another.

“Did you hear about what happened to Bart, the Accountant?” Rachel asked before popping a mouthful of peanuts into her mouth.

“I heard he was sick or something,” Susan said, shaking her head. “Why? Is there something else?”

“Sick? Hell no,” Rachel said, leaning into Susan. “He was doing it with Connie and dropped dead of a heart attack.”

Susan frowned and looked at her friend. “Connie, as in Connie from the seventh floor?”

"The one and only. He would pop up there when she was cleaning the rooms, and they would have quickies before she put fresh sheets on the beds," Rachel said, holding her hand up to her mouth in case anyone nearby could read lips.

“Ewwwww, that’s gross,” Susan said, scrunching up her face. “Where did he have the heart attack?”

Rachel giggled. “Broom closet. From what I hear, they were like fucking rabbits.”

“Bart had to be about sixty, wasn’t he?” Susan said, taking a sip of her drink.

"Yea, and Connie was twenty-five," Rachel said, shaking her head. "Connie told Betty that he had an enormous dick."

Susan laughed. “Well, I never really wondered how big any of the men’s dicks were that worked here.”

Rachel thought for a moment, then turned and looked at her friend. “We need to get you laid.”

Susan, finishing her drink and grabbing her purse, laughed. “I’m doing just fine for now, but thanks for thinking of me. Anyways, I must get home,” she said, hugging Rachel. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Susan got into her car, stopping briefly before turning the ignition. Why did people find it so strange that at twenty-six, she didn’t have a regular sex life? Her mother had taught her that her body was her own personal property, and no one had a right to it if you didn’t want to. When she gave herself to someone, she wanted to make sure they would treat it with respect and appreciate the gift they were being given. Call her old fashioned, but that’s precisely how Susan felt.

She remembered the time she let Robbie Walton feel her up in the back of his parent's house. They were about 18 years old, and she had a crush on Robbie, she would have done anything to get him to like her. One afternoon, she had been walking past his house on her way to meet some friends when Robbie was sitting outside.

“Hey Susie Q,” Robbie called out. “Where are you going?”

Looking at him, Susan could feel her heart quicken. He always called her that, and it always made her giggle. “Going to hang out with friends,” she answered, smiling at him.

“Want to hang out with me?” he asked, getting up off the front porch and walking towards
her.

Susan couldn’t believe it. He wanted to spend time with her. “Sure. What did you want to do?”

“I have an idea. Why don’t we go sit in the backyard,” Robbie said, holding out his hand.

Taking it, he let Susan around the corner and to the backyard. “We can sit in the swing over there,” he said, pointing to the seat.

Susan reluctantly sat down, excited to be with Robbie, but worried about why he was being so nice to her. “Why are you being nice to me?” she asked as they sat.

Putting his arm around her, Robbie looked at her. “I like you. Is there something wrong with that?”

“You like me?” Susan asked, surprised.

“I do,” Robbie answered, bending forward and kissing her softly on the lips

Having never been kissed before, Susan reeled back but soon relaxed, enjoying the feel of his lips on hers, his tongue probing her mouth.

“What are you doing?” she cried out as she felt his hand cup her breast.

“You like me, don’t you?” he said as he slipped his hand under her top and began rubbing her nipple.

Susan nodded as he bent forward and kissed her again, enjoying the feeling of his hand on her breast. Closing her eyes, she let herself relax as Robbie moved his head down, lifting her top completely and taking one of her nipples in his mouth.

The softness of his tongue made Susan moan slightly as Robbie’s other hand, inched down and began rubbing the material between her legs.

“Nooo, Robbie, please stop,” Susan suddenly said. “This is wrong.”

“Oh come on, you can’t let me get this far and tell me you don’t like it,” Robbie said, rubbing her faster.

“ROBBIE NOOOO,” she cried, jumping up and quickly pulling down her top. As much as she liked Robbie, she couldn’t give herself to him. Not yet.

“Heyyy come on back, Susy Q,” Robbie called after her.

Susan ran through the gate and down the sidewalk towards her house. Robbie didn’t like her, he just wanted to feel her private parts, and at that moment, she vowed that no one would touch her unless she gave them permission, and she was going to save herself for her husband, no matter how long it took her to find him.

It wasn't until four years later. She finally gave herself to Shawn Gregor, who she thought was her prince. It turned out that once he got what he wanted, he turned into a frog and hopped away. Susan vowed she would not have sex again, no matter how bad the urge.

  Chapter 2

One of the perks of working at the Chiltern Hotel was the way they treated their employees. The lounge was always full of treats and drinks, and free meals were given to all employees for lunch and dinner.

Susan sat on the couch, her feet up on the coffee table, going over the work schedule for the coming week. The hotel wasn’t too busy, so she was hoping they would have a slow day in the restaurant.

“Hey, what are you doing on Saturday,” Rachel said, coming in and sitting down beside her. “I have to go to a bridal shower, and I don’t want to go by myself.”

Susan looked at her. “Don’t I have to be invited to a Bridal Shower? Who’s getting married?”

“An old high school friend,” Rachel said. “It’s one of those everyone can come types of showers. Personally, I think it’s just a way for them to get a pile of gifts, but I promised her I would go.”

“Okay, do you have to tell her you are bringing someone,” Susan asked.

“Yea. I’ll tell her I’m bringing my lesbian lover. That’ll shake things up,” Rachel said, laughing.

“Okay, you are on. I’ll play the part,” Susan said, giggling. “I better get to work. Talk to you later.”

Getting up, Susan walked out into the lobby of the hotel, walking towards the restaurant. A few people were checking in, so there weren’t many people lulling around. Dropping one of her papers, Susan bent down to pick it up when she saw a man come in the front door and walk towards the counter. “Who is that?” Susan said under her breath as she watched him walk confidently across the lobby. He was dressed in a three-piece suit that fit him perfectly. It was dark blue, which brought out his dark curly hair. He looked like a man who knew what he wanted in life, and Susan suddenly felt her body quiver.

Shaking her head, she quickly collected her thoughts, and walked towards the restaurant, watching him out of the corner of her eye as he met with Dan, the General Manager. She had to find out who he was and made a mental note to ask Rachel the next time she saw her.

Lunchtime at the restaurant was surprisingly busy, and Susan found herself short-staffed as three waitresses had come down with the dreaded flu going around. Susan didn’t mind helping as it gave her a break from her regular routine, and she enjoyed chatting with some of the guests that came in for lunch.

“Hey, want to go out for a drink after work tonight,” Rachel asked Susan when she popped in to get a bottle of water.

"Nah, I better not. I have three people off sick and have to work till nine tonight. Then I'm back in at six for the breakfast shift," Susan said. "Hey, I meant to ask you. Did you see that man talking to Dan earlier today?"

  “No. When?”

“This morning, after I left you in the lounge. He walked across the lobby like he owned the place and shook hands with Dan, then they disappeared into the office. He looked really sexy. You know the type that makes you drool when you look at him and want to rip his clothes off,” Susan said, whispering.

“Oh, like you’d know, Miss born again virgin,” Rachel said, laughing.

“Hey, I may not be having sex, but I have my fantasies,” Susan said, laughing. “If you hear anything, let me know.”

The next morning Susan dragged herself into the restaurant. She had slept in a bit, so Jane, her other waitress, had already opened everything and got the coffee brewing. John, the Chef, had just shown up, and Susan could hear him clanging pots and pan around in the kitchen.

“Rough night Susan?” Jane asked when Susan walked in.

Shaking her head, Susan said, “Oh no, I just had a hard time sleeping last night. Not sure why. By the time I fell asleep, the alarm went off.”

“Hate when that happens,” Jane said. “I have to run into the back for a sec. Can you get coffee to the guy in booth number three? He just got here.”

“Yeah sure,” Susan said, grabbing a freshly made pot of coffee off the burner.

“Good morn…..” Susan said as she looked up at the man sitting in the booth in shock. There sitting smiling at her, was her stranger. Dressed in the same three-piece suit, he greeted the perfect smile at her. "Well, good morning to you. You must be Susan," he said, holding out his hand. "Carl Williams."

Susan put down the coffee pot, wiped her hand on her apron, and shook his hand. “Okay, how do you know my name?”

Carl laughed. “I’m the new Accountant. I just started yesterday, and unless you are wearing someone else's uniform, your name tag says Susan.”

“Oh, yea, sorry. I’m not quite awake yet,” Susan said, suddenly feeling a bit embarrassed. “Well, welcome to the Chiltern.”

“Thanks. I have a lot to learn,” Carl said. “Dan also told me if I had any questions and he wasn’t around, I could ask you. He speaks very highly of you.”

“Well, that’s nice to know. Dan and I go way back,” Susan said, picking up the coffee pot and filling his cup.

“Oh, is there a story there?” Carl said, looking at her, raising his eyebrow.

“Oh, god no. I’ve known Dan since we were teenagers. He’s married with a couple of kids,” Susan said, smiling. “Can I get you breakfast.”

  “What about you? Married? Kids?

Susan suddenly felt a bit flushed that he was asking her such personal questions right away. Shaking her head, she laughed. “No, haven’t met my prince yet.”

“Ohhh, does that mean you are looking,” Carl asked, feeling amused that she was feeling a bit embarrassed by his questions.

Squinting her eyes, Susan looked at him. “I t
hink you, Sir, are a bit of a flirt,” she said, laughing.

Carl threw his head back and laughed. “Ya got me pegged already. Maybe a drink some night? I just like being friendly. I mean no harm.”

“No harm taken,” Susan said, smiling at him. She wanted to sit down across from him and gaze into this ice blue eyes for the rest of the morning. There was something about him that she felt drawn to. She felt comfortable with him. “A drink sometime would be nice. Now can I get you a breakfast special?”

“That would be wonderful, Susan,” Carl said, smiling at her. “I look forward to our drink.”

As Susan walked away, it took everything she had not to melt into the floor. There was just something about him that made her feel like a giggly schoolgirl, and for the first time in her life, she wanted to get to know more about Carl Williams. A heck of a lot more.

  Chapter 3

Mondays always seemed so long for Susan as she took one last look around the restaurant. The tables had all been set with crisp white tablecloths, and a small selection of fresh-cut flowers adorned the center of each of them.

“Ready to unlock the doors,” Susan said to Lucy Preston, who had just started working at the hotel.
