“I guess I am, so maybe I did have something to do with it, but not intentionally.”

Unlike now... His pleasure-giving fingers were most definitely intentional in their quest around her breasts. On the verge of orgasm, she found it hard to remember what they were saying. His voice and fingers should be labelled as weapons.

“Why did they change, do you think?” Think. Think! The only thing she was thinking about was how long his questing fingers would take to reach her throbbing clit as it sent out its distress call through her body.

“My best guess is that your demonic side is no longer part of you,” Noah said as his fingers brushed her clit, sending her flying through the orgasm he’d so expertly built.

“My what?” Nico sprang from his lap, the ongoing orgasm causing her legs to shake as his chilling words doused the flames.

Noah scooped her up before she could collapse and carried her back to the bed. He kissed her breathless before he continued.”The short version is that you were an angel, then you fell to earth. Your soul spilt into dark and light, and you were banished to hell. And somehow, you escaped and now you are back to that angel status you had before you fell, without the wings and access to heaven of course. But still good.”

“Huh?” Could her life get any weirder? Did she really want to know? This was way too much to take in. Gah, she needed to think, to digest all this. Maybe she really had flipped her lid, lost her marbles, and was now in an asylum and heavily drugged. The bed dipped as Noah climbed in beside her.

“Don’t worry about it. We have years for me to tell you all the gory details in full techno color if you want. But right now I want to make love to you again.” That sounded good to her, but there was one thing she needed to know before that.

“What else don’t I know? Is the devil real? Are there unicorns romping around unseen? Does God hate me now?” The last was the only one that was really a question, and it hurt her heart to get that answered alone, so she made up the rest to cushion the blow.

“Well, the devil is very much real and walks the earth sometimes. He’s not a bad fellow really, just a little misguided. Without him we wouldn’t have the diversity that life has to offer. There are only two unicorns left in this world, and they’re hidden very well. And God loves all his children, even those that throw temper tantrums.” Noah pulled her into his arms. “You just aren’t allowed into heaven anymore, until you die a human death, that is.”

Nico was on information overload. So she just nodded, and let him seduce her again.

  ***

Laying awake, watching Noah in peaceful slumber, Nico pondered over everything that had happened to her. In the last twenty-four hours she’d overdosed on orgasms, found out that myths were very real, and fallen in love. Noah might look like a bad ass, but he had a heart of gold and her own heart wept for him when he explained his lonely existence to her. He had no friends, no family, no one to turn to. She couldn’t imagine never having another soul to depend on. Oh crap!

“Noah,” she said, peeling herself from his side to look at him. “We have to get back to the Blood Bar, and those women there.” While she was living the life of riley, her brother could be dying in a ditch someplace, alone and scared.

“Why is that, my angel?” Noah groaned, his sleeping voice was the most wonderful sound, all gravely and sexy as hell.

“I’m trying to find my brother and he was heavily involved in the group of ladies that were at the Blood Bar. He...well he was pretending to be a woman, I think. I managed to find out that he had an online persona that was part of this group and that he was passing himself off as a woman. I joined their writing group in the hopes of getting information from them as they seem to be the last people he was in contact with before he disappeared a month ago. I didn’t have time to talk to them before you showed up and my sanity took a vacation. I need to get back there or find these women and ask them if they remember his or her saying anything weird. I have to find him, Noah. As a twin I know he is alive but that’s all.”

Noah laughed, a deep rumble, that made her heart sing, “Your brother was pretending to be a woman? Why in gods...?” Noah sat up, knocking her onto her back.

“What is it? Do you have to leave again? If you do, you can drop me off on the way. But first do your voodoo thing and magic me up some clothes.” She smiled, then rested her hands behind her head and stared at the tattoo that ran down his back, curving lovingly to his contours, and she wanted to lick him all over again.

  Chapter Six

All the pieces that he had been going over and over were now making sense. Why all the women were in that bar, and all the supernaturals too. Someone had brought them there. Once he knew it hadn’t been Nico, it had been niggling that he had missed something, and it wasn’t until she mentioned her brother, his disappearance, and the involvement with these women, that they all fit together.

As a twin he would have been part evil and part good, just like she had first appeared to him. Now that she was all good, that meant that he would most likely be filled with pure evil. When they joined, the love he had for her eradicated the small part of evil left in her and turned her all good, while it must have turned her twin all bad. It was her twin who wanted Hope; why else would he have gathered that set of women together? Was he trying to get back into hell? Noah had no idea, but the reasons didn’t matter right now. All that mattered was finding Nico’s twin and then he would be in compliance with the elimination order from the high council. He wouldn’t have to kill or hide Nico if he got rid of Brin.

The only problem was Brin now knew that Nico was vulnerable, and that she had the Enforcer looking out for her. He seemed to have patience as shown by his planning and gathering so far. Now that it was clear his first attempt at finding Hope or her mother had failed, what the hell was he planning next? They had to warn the others. Brin was dangerous, and now the Enforcer had something to lose in this battle and it made him weak to attack. Maybe that’s why the high council had mandated he finish the job he should have before. Or maybe they meant that all he had to do was take out Brin, and then Nico and the world would be safe.

Noah filled Nico in on his thoughts as they dressed. Obviously, she was reluctant to believe him and rallied to her brother’s defence.

“Don’t you dare ‘take him out,’ as you put it. That’s my brother you are so callously getting rid of and I will not stand by and let you harm one hair on his head. Do you hear me?”

Of course he heard her—the whole bloody world probably did as well. Who knew women could screech at that decibel? But she was extremely cute in her anger mode and he loved that she defended those she loved. Her little fists beating on his chest were more foreplay than annoying, although he doubted if he mentioned that that she would take kindly to his interpretation.

“I promise to talk first. Does that please you?” He had never offered anyone this option, mind you, had never had reason to either. Now he did. If he was going to keep Nico then he had to take into account that this was her brother and not a simple thing that he could destroy, even if it did mean that she would be safe. He felt the pull of the Blood Bar again as they materialised outside it and knew that not only were the other supes there, but Brin was too.

“Nico, your brother is here but I want to meet him alone. I don’t want you in the way in case things go bad.”

“No way, I’m coming and you’re not going to argue this point with me.” She crossed her tiny arms in front of her chest and lifted her chin. Inwardly Noah groaned. This was a complication he was not used to but would have to take into account if he wanted to keep her. He reiterated what he had said earlier to her in the hopes she would give in.

“Woman, what is in there is not the same brother you have grown up with. That thing is pure evil, I can feel it from here, taste it on my tongue. You will stay here or I will ensure your compliance.” Well hell that was not what he was going to say but it just came out, his protective instincts were ruling his tongue. He w
as not going to take any chances with her. Brin would use her and her big heart.

“Fine, but I want to talk to him once you have made sure that this little woman is safe.”

And pigs will fly if you believe that, he thought he heard her mutter before walking into the dark shadows.

Skin crawling, Noah continued until he was between worlds, the holding plane between heaven and hell. Brin stepped out from behind a grey tree and moved toward him.

“I hope you’re enjoying fucking my sister because once I’m through with you, you won’t be fucking with anyone anymore.”

“Bring it, little boy,” Noah said, making sure his tone was dead and could give nothing of his inner turmoil away. He was going to have to kill this creature and Nico might never forgive him.

“Oh, I will, but first I have some…well you can’t call them people, but for lack of a better word I will. So I have people who have been waiting a very long time to get you into this plane. While you get reacquainted with them I will go and have some...fun with my sister, see if she is as good at fucking as I am.”

Brin vanished and Noah found himself surrounded by his past. Shit, fallen angels were everywhere and the numbers were growing as the seconds passed. There was no way he was going to get out of this without getting a little messed up.

  ***

Did he really think she would just sit around and wait for him? Seriously, what kind of person would do that? Her brother was in some kind of trouble and if she believed Noah then he was not only in trouble but was royally screwed. There had to be a way of making this right, though, there just had to be. She couldn’t lose Brin; it would kill her as surely as if Noah was to kill him.

Nico walked the way Noah had, expecting to find him and her brother in the midst of a death match, but what she found was...nothing. She had to give him credit; her ef-ing angel was good at the disappearing act, as she would do, just as soon as she tracked his fine ass down, right after she made sure her brother was still breathing.

“Ah, I see you are looking for me, my sweet little sister.”

Nico almost shit her pants when she was grabbed from behind and a putrid smell invaded her musings of what she was going to do to punish Noah for leaving her behind like a weak little puppy.

“Hmm, you smell like you have been fucked, little sister. I will have to punish you for that.”

Nico tried to turn around and see who was holding her but she couldn’t move. She had no idea who it was because it couldn’t be Brin; he would never talk like that. Yet, who else would call her little sister? She was, after all, five seconds younger than him.

  “Wh-who are you?”

“Don’t tell me you have forgotten me in the brief time we have been apart?”

  “Brin.”

“That’s right and I have come to take back what is mine. You see, I was meant to be made whole and you were meant to die, little Gabby, but someone fucked up in the transfer and we were born. Now I’m going to take it back.”

Shocked, she didn’t know what to say to that or what to do. This was not her brother; Noah had been right when he said that the Brin she’d known was gone. This evil creature was not her brother. Before she could think of a response, his hands left her arms and started lifting her skirt. Was he going to rape her? Nico swallowed the bile rapidly rising. She had to get out of here and she had to do it now.

“Brin, I’m your sister, this is wrong. So wrong.”

  “Exactly.”

But her distraction seemed to work as he let go of her skirt and again held her in his vice-like grip.

“I knew you were still in there, Brin. Please, you have to fight this. I know you can do it. I’m here with you and I won’t leave you.” She breathed out with relief...until he started walking her toward the heavy oak table dominating the room.

He shoved her forward and pain exploded in her hips. It appeared the wood was stronger than bone because her hips felt like they had just shattered on impact. She was not out of the woods yet; Brin was still planning to rape her—she knew it like she knew that she had to kill him to save herself. But would she be able to, now that was the question.

“There must be another way, please don’t do thi...” Her words died in her throat as Brin fisted her hair and smashed her face into the table. Intense pain exploded in her left cheek. No need to have a medical degree to know that major damage had just occurred. Her vision started to fade even as she struggled to fight Brin off her. But he still managed to hold her down with one hand twisting in her hair, while his other hand tore off her knickers. He was really going to do this, rape her. No way would the brother she’d grown up with, the one who’d protected her from being raped or molested in the foster homes, do this. This was a monster, not Brin, and it was that knowledge that gave Nico the strength to fight harder to do whatever she had to in order to survive this.

“Fucking you will be a pleasure. Not only will I be whole once more when I end your life, but you will suffer in the process like the whore you are, little Gabby.

  “Wh-what did you call me?”

“Oh, you might not remember but I certainly do, and I’m not about to take the time to fill you in when I could be fucking myself whole.” Her heart clenched and her stomach rolled. Hadn’t Noah called her something like that when they met? She couldn’t remember; it was all a bit fuzzy still.

Nico heard a zipper and her panic elevated, her vision growing dimmer by the second. If she didn’t get out of this now she wasn’t going to. She felt fingers probing her pussy.

  “A little dry.”

Nico cringed; although she now knew that this wasn’t Brin, it was still hard to get the image of her brother out of her head. What had happened to him? Had it been her fault? Would he have still been the brother she knew if she hadn’t made love with Noah? Oh God, had she caused this?

“Don’t you think I’m good enough for your angelic pussy? I could make you want me if I gave a shit, but since I don’t...” More probing.

Oh God. She closed her eyes, trying to draw in strength, hoping that she got a chance to use it. And when she did this foul creature that had killed her brother was going to die.

  ***

That had been the best timing the Angelic council ever had. Noah stood facing the sparkling white walls waiting for someone to say something. Nothing happened, no one spoke. He was just beginning to lose patience when the walls disintegrated and he found himself facing his worst nightmare. Nico was limply bent over a table, skirt around her waist while Brin... He didn’t need a fucking medical dictionary to tell him what Brin was about to do. He unsheathed his sword and charged the mother fucker. If he had even been one second later Nico would have been... No, he didn’t have time to worry over what could have been, he needed to kill, kill, kill. Maybe then he would stop seeing this red haze that had taken over his vision.

“If you kill me she will die.” The words registered right before Noah’s sword would have taken Brin’s head. Had it been a split second later his head would have been bouncing on the floor. That split second gave Brin the time to vanish.

Noah should have gone after him, but he couldn’t leave Nico. He picked her fragile body up and cradled her in his arms so that he could absorb the worst of her injuries. The rank bastard had shattered her cheek and jaw bones, her hip was fractured in two places and the internal bleeding had almost taken her life. If he’d been even any later he wouldn’t have been able to save her. His heart constricted at the thought of losing her. For the first time he could remember he prayed and thanked God for aiding him in saving her.

“Noah, is that you?” Her voice was weak and breathless but the sound was music to his ears.

“Yes, my love, you are safe now, just rest.” Noah took them to their safe haven so that he could bathe her and rid her skin of the stench that bastard had left on her. He didn’t want Nico to smell that when she became fully conscious.

“Did...did Brin...did he...” Her whole body trembled; twisting his gut
with the pain she must be feeling both physically and emotionally.

“No, he didn’t violate you, baby.” Noah felt rage boiling at the visual her words brought and again thanked God he had gotten there when he had. He couldn’t talk about this right now, needed to let go of the rage boiling within him, the rage that needed to tear something apart. Brin would be his first choice, but until he knew for sure that killing Brin wouldn’t kill Nico, he couldn’t do it.

  “Is he dead?”

“Sleep now. You will need your rest.” Her voice faded out and he placed her in a light sleep to stop her from trying to remember. She needed to regain her strength.

“I love you, Nico,” Noah said to her sleeping form. “I will never let that bastard near you again and together we will hunt him down.”

“I love you too.” Her words were breathy but they meant the world to him. As did the slight smile lifting her lips as she continued to sleep.

He vowed then that he wouldn’t rest until Nico was no longer in danger from Brin. What he would do to ensure that he had no idea, but he would think of something, he had to.
