  ART GALLERIES

The following art galleries include original creature concept designs by the amazing Matt Frank, along with step-by-step art revealing how the Project Legion cover was created by the artist known as “Shark.” As always, there are several pages of amazing fan art. And if all of that wasn’t enough, there are also several preview pages from issue #1 of the Island 731 comic book (already available), co-written with Kane Gilmour and drawn by Jeff Zornow.

  MATT FRANK CREATURE DESIGNS

This first gallery includes the original creature concept designs for Nemesis and Hyperion’s new slimmer look, as well as the new Kaiju: the GUS, Neo-Prime, and Ashtaroth. The designs are by the always amazing Matt Frank, who has provided art for all five Nemesis books, and illustrated the Project Nemesis comic book. You might also recognize his work from many Godzilla comic books. As an added bonus, we’ve included all of Matt’s designs for the series in this gallery.

STEP BY STEP COVER CREATION BY “SHARK”

Since the release of Project Hyperion, the cover of which was designed by Liu Junwei (aka: “Shark”), I have had the pleasure of working with Shark on a few projects, including the cover for my new Kaiju Thriller, Unity, and now the cover of Project Legion. In both cases he went above and beyond, creating beautifully painted scenes far larger than necessary. I’m always impressed by his long process, from sketches to several drafts, and then his race toward a finished and mind-blowing final product. What follows is a few of the steps he took to create the cover for Project Legion. Check out his other work at: sharksden.deviantart.com.

  FAN ART GALLERY

When I kicked things off with Project Nemesis, it never really occurred to me that I would get fan art for the novel. I’ve written a lot of novels and have only a handful of drawings inspired by the stories, over ten years. So when I received my first piece of fan art, I was surprised and delighted. But it didn’t stop there. They kept on coming, and then I began finding them on Google, and DeviantArt and posted by people I didn’t know on Facebook. I quickly realized I would have enough for a fan art gallery, and with Project Maigo, it became a staple of the series, allowing fans to show off their skills and their love for Nemesis. As always, I’m impressed, inspired and honored by this year’s submissions. Thank you to everyone who has contributed over the years. You’ve made this endeavor even more fun.

  ISLAND 731 ISSUE #1 PREVIEW

  UNITY

  By Jeremy Robinson

Euphemia Williams, known to her few friends as Effie, and everyone else as Eff-Bomb, will punch you for looking at her funny, for using her full name or for noticing that she’s a genius. But when an elite global entity known as Unity takes note of her intelligence and offers her a chance to escape the hum-drum life of a foster-child, she signs up. At best, she expects her time abroad to be a vacation. At worst, an actual challenge. But what she finds, upon being swept up in a futuristic transport, is far, far worse.

En route to a secret location in the Pacific, a meteor punches through the atmosphere triggering an electromagnetic pulse that sends the transport plummeting to the ocean. While fighting to escape the crash and climb onto an island beach, the meteor slams into the sea. A tsunami races across the island, pursuing Effie and her fellow survivors deeper into the volcanic island’s lush jungle.

Beaten, terrified and abandoned, the small group discovers that they are not alone on the island. The locals are ruthless and well-trained. With the survivors looking to her for leadership, Effie struggles—and fails—to keep everyone alive as they fight for survival.

Along the way, Effie uncovers the island’s secrets. The parents she never knew were entangled with the island’s strange history. The island is home to far more than human survivors. And the meteor that sent them careening into the ocean, wasn’t a meteor at all. There are more—and one of them is headed their way.
