When they finally released each other, the fruit trees shook in the breeze, their leaves releasing a contented sigh that carried across the yard. Their branches had stretched out to fill in the void from the tree Rachel had removed. She almost couldn’t see the dark spot where the dirt had yet to dry from the remnant plum poison. It was the size of a pit now. Soon it would be nothing more than a story she told about how she got lost in Nowhere and found her way home.
