She rocked her hips with mine and I could feel her walls begin to tighten. She pulsated around my cock, and I slightly withdrew, and then slowly seated myself deep inside her, rubbing hard on her clit. And then it happened. She cried out and stilled her hips, biting down on my shoulder.

That’s all it took. I exploded inside her, letting out a groan of my own.

My body sagged onto hers and she wrapped her arms and legs around me. I knew she didn’t want me to move, so I lay there kissing up and down her neck.

“That was so good, Kade,” she mumbled against my neck.

I lifted up to look at her and smiled. “We should try that again sometime, huh?”

  “Definitely,” she giggled.

I leaned down and gave her a kiss as I slowly pulled out. I was still hard and could probably go for another round, but I knew she had to be sore. I had pounded her pretty hard.

As I pulled out, she tugged me to the side and started to get up. “Wait, beautiful, I’ll get a wash cloth.”

“No, it’s okay. I have to go to the bathroom anyway,” she said as she hopped out of the bed.

I chuckled as I watched her fast walk to the bathroom, cupping her pussy.

“Shut up, Kade! It’s running down my leg,” she laughed as she turned and looked at me with disgust.

I threw my head back and laughed as she closed the bathroom door. I loved that we could be playful with each other. I loved her and I wanted to tell her, but I knew it was too soon.

When she walked back out of the bathroom a few minutes later, she clicked the light off and crawled into bed beside me. I pulled her body into mine and wrapped my arm around her.

  “Good night, beautiful.”

  “Good night, Kade.”

I walked into the office the next morning with a huge smile on my face. I tried to act nonchalant, but my mind kept wandering to him, to the night and morning we shared. There was nothing better than waking up pressed against Kade. He woke me up with a hand between my legs and his hard-on rubbing against my ass.

After my delicious morning wakeup call, we decided to take a shower together to save some time, since I was already running late for work. That ended up not being the best idea; we only delayed ourselves some more.

I bit my lip to suppress the giggle that was dying to come out. I shook my head at myself for acting like such a lovesick high school girl.

“What are you all smiley about?” I heard Sam ask. “Does this have anything to do with so-and-so you couldn’t stop talking about yesterday?”

I looked up at Sam and smiled as I sat down at my desk. “Maybe.”

Yesterday, I came into work and told Sam all about what happened on Sunday with Kade, leaving out all of Kade’s secret life. And of course he laughed his ass off when I told him about Jules walking in and seeing Kade’s bare ass. Jules didn’t help either by doing a play-by-play of the situation for Sam. She said she wanted him to be able to picture the whole thing. I was mortified and I was sure my cheeks were blood red with embarrassment, but we must have laughed for a good fifteen minutes.

Sam was turning out to be a great friend. He was so easy to talk to and I loved his witty comebacks. He was like the brother I never had.

“Well, you can’t just leave it at that. You gotta tell me. I haven’t had any luck in the lady department lately, so I have to live vicariously through you,” he said as he rolled his chair over to my desk.

I laughed and shook my head at him. “Whatever! I highly doubt you have any problems in the lady department. Girls love an accent and you’re hot.”

“Aw, Scarlett, you sure do know how to make a guy blush,” he said sarcastically.

I rolled my eyes. “Yes, Kade came over last night.”

I booted up my computer and unlocked my desk to get my files out for the day.

  “Booty call?”

“What?” I looked at him with a furrowed brow. “No, not a booty call.”

Then my shoulders slumped as I thought about it. Would that have been considered a booty call? The idea had never crossed my mind. My relationship with Kade was different than it was with Trey, the ex who dated me while he was married. Or was it? Our relationship had to be kept secret until he said it was okay to come out in the open with it. Just as it was with Trey, except he always made excuses. Kade just flat out told me it had to be kept secret. Although these were two different situations, I couldn’t help but think about the similarities. Like Jules said, I had no idea how long it would have to be this way. Would I be okay to have a relationship like this for a couple weeks, months, possibly even years? The answer was no. I didn’t think I’d be able to handle it. He did tell me before he left this morning, that he was going to come by again tonight so we could talk, since we skipped the talk the night before and went straight to bed.

“Hey, you okay? I was only messing with you.”

I looked up at Sam and plastered a fake smile on my face. “Yeah, I’ve just got a lot on my mind.”

“Okay, well, I didn’t mean to knock that pretty smile off your face. Don’t listen to anything I say. I’m a twit.”

I laughed aloud. “A twit? Have I told you lately that I love your accent?”

“No,” he smiled. “I think it’s been a couple of hours.”

The ring of the door opening caught our attention and we both turned to see who it was. The laugh I had faded away along with my smile. I had forgotten that Jess was going to arrive. She was wearing a skirt that was way too short to be business appropriate, with a button-up shirt that strained to stay closed against her huge, fake boobs. It didn’t surprise me though.

I had to admit though, seeing her and knowing the truth about what happened that night, changed my attitude toward her. So I put a smile back on my face. There was no need to glower around her any longer. And what better way to get on someone’s nerves who didn’t like you, than to shower them with kindness.

“Hey, Jess,” I called out to her with a smile.

She had only glanced at me when she walked in, so when I said her name, she literally stopped walking and turned her head.

“Matt said you’d be coming in, so we made sure that desk right there,” I pointed to the desk in front of Sam’s, “was all set up for you. And this here is Sam,” I said pointing to him. “He just started a week ago along with Doug over there.” I pointed.

Doug turned and nodded his head at her while Sam stood up and offered his hand. “It’s nice to meet you, Jess.”

“It’s nice to meet you too,” she said as she shook his hand. I could tell her interest peaked as soon as Sam spoke. I knew it would. He’s good looking and he has an accent. “Maybe we could go to lunch later and you could show me around a little. I don’t have to meet my client until after three.” She batted her lashes at him. Was she for real?

Sam withdrew his hand and stuffed it into the pocket of his slacks. Shaking his head he made a tsking sound. “Sorry, but I’m meeting my partner for lunch today.”

I had to bite my lip so I wouldn’t bust out laughing. The look on Jess’s face was priceless.

“Oh, well … you have a fabulous lunch then. I should probably call my boyfriend on my break anyway.”

She turned and walked to the desk she’d be using for two days, while Sam turned to me and winked. I smiled at him and shook my head. I couldn’t believe he just told her he was gay. That was awesome.

At that point, Jules walked out of her office and headed toward my desk, blatantly ignoring Jess. “So dish it, what happened last night?”

She was talking louder than usual; I’m sure for Jess’s benefit. I shook my head and chuckled, “Oh you know, we just sat around and talked.”

I looked over at Jess and could tell she was listening. I knew what Jules was doing. She wanted Jess to know that I was back with Kade, and she wanted to rub it in her face. Obviously not remembering I told her that it was supposed to be a secret, but there was nothing I could do about it.

  “Oh, I’m sure there w
as talking. Kade likes to talk a lot,” she laughed.

I looked over at Sam who was laughing along with her. I swear these two must have just hit puberty.

“Seriously, Jules, you’re too much. How in the world would you know?”

She looked over at Sam and gave him a smile. Then she looked back at me and said, “I am the one who saw his ass flexing while he bumped and grinded into you on the couch the other night.”

I couldn’t help it, my mouth dropped open with a gasp, and then we all burst out laughing except for Jess who just sat there looking at us in shock.

“Okay, okay, back to work. I’ve got a phone meeting with Matt at ten thirty. You want to go to lunch after I’m done?”

“Sure, but Sam can’t go. He’s meeting his boy lover for lunch today.” I had to bite my lips together, again, so I wouldn’t laugh. But that didn’t stop Sam from spitting out his coffee as I said it.

Jules looked at Sam, and then back at me confused. “We’ll talk at lunch, Jules. Just come get me when you’re ready.”

She walked back to her office and I turned my chair back toward my desk. I snuck a glance at Jess as I picked up one of my files. She looked like she was lost in thought, staring at some papers. I heard her say she needed to call her boyfriend earlier and I wondered if she was just saying that or if she really did have one. If she did, I hoped he knew what he was getting into. I felt sorry for her sometimes and wondered if she really had any friends. Maybe she acted and did the things she did because she was lonely. But nobody would ever know because she was too much of a bitch to even get close to anyone; unless you were the opposite sex and you wouldn’t mind dropping your pants for the night.

Getting on with work, I picked up my phone and dialed in my voicemail code. I had a lot to do that day and I hoped the day would go by fast. Having Jess there no longer bothered me. I trusted what Kade told me and felt sorry for Jess that she felt compelled to lie about it. I couldn’t blame her for wanting him though. I couldn’t wait to see Kade again and have a repeat of the night before.

I arrived at Scarlett’s place a little after eight and sat in my car for a few minutes. I had so much shit on my mind. It was one fucking thing after another in my life. Aaron, the head of the label, called me earlier in the day and basically told me that if my personal affairs weren’t settle by the end of the year, he was going to drop me.

What do you fucking say to that? I had no words. There I was writing music, and then my day turned to shit. I dodged calls from the guys all day because I didn’t know what to say to them. I had to figure this shit out first. I felt like I couldn’t get a fucking break. Everything seemed to be going downhill, all except for reuniting with Scarlett. Out of everything, that was the best fucking thing that had happened so far.

I was ready for the shit to be over with. I still had no fucking idea how I was supposed to get the information that Kevin said I needed. Those files couldn’t be the only way to bring Frank down. There had to be another way.

I sent Kevin a text telling him that we needed to meet the next day. The last time we talked it sounded like he wanted me to figure this shit out on my own. But if he wanted me to get anything for him, then his ass would be on the line too.

I made my way up to Scarlett’s apartment and knocked on the door. She answered a few minutes later in a t-shirt and sleep shorts. I loved how she didn’t feel like she needed to make an effort to impress me. She looked sexy in everything she wore.

I walked up to her, wrapped my arms around her waist and pulled her close, bringing my lips down to hers. I gave her a soft kiss and smiled down at her. “Hey, beautiful.”

“Hi,” she said, smiling back at me. “Did you eat?” She pulled away from me and headed into the kitchen.

“Yeah, I had a little something before I left,” I lied as I stood at the bar looking into the kitchen.

She was loading the dishwasher and putting some food away.

“Okay, well, I made some chicken pasta if you get hungry. You are more than welcome to eat. I promise it tastes good.”

I laughed as she smiled at me. I knew she didn’t like to cook. “Thanks for letting me know.”

“Go ahead and take a seat in the living room. I’ll be there in just a minute. Do you want something to drink? I’ve got beer, soda, or water.”

  “Nah, I’m good.”

I watched her cleaning up as I backed away from the kitchen. My mind wandered to what could and would be once this Frank mess was finished. I would love to see her in my kitchen, both of us cooking together, and cleaning up together. Fuck, I just wanted her there, period.

I sat down on the couch and waited for her to join me. I had told her this morning that we needed to talk and she said she had some things she wanted to ask me as well.

I decided the other day that if we were going to make this work, I was going to be open and honest with her every step of the way. I knew she didn’t realize how much danger she could possibly be in and I was the asshole putting her there. Kevin was doing the same thing, which I planned to talk to him about too.

After a few more minutes, she came into the living room with a bottle of water. She set it down on the table and sat down beside me.

“So, how was your day?” I asked as I turned my body toward hers.

“Eh, it was okay,” she said, shrugging her shoulders. “How was your day?”

I blew out a breath and leaned forward. “Let’s just say I’m not having one of my best,” I turned and looked at her, “but being here with you is making it much better.”

She smiled at me and I leaned in to give her a kiss. Lifting her hands, she ran her fingers through my hair and moaned into my mouth. Just that one simple sound was enough to get my cock’s attention.

I slowly pulled away, not wanting to let things get out of hand before we were able to talk.

“So,” I said as I brushed strands of hair away from her face, “I told you this morning we’d talk tonight. You mentioned that you had some questions you wanted to ask.”

“Yeah,” she mumbled as she looked down and started playing with her fingers. Her eyebrows pinched together and she softly chuckled. “It’s going to sound stupid,” she said looking up at me, “but I want to know what happens now.”

  “What do you mean?”

“Exactly what I just said.” She shrugged her shoulder and threw her hands up in emphasis. “What happens now that we are together? How long exactly are we going to have to meet in secret? How long will it be before I can actually go out with you in public? I’m not experienced in dating, but I do know that I don’t want to be a booty call.”

Fuck me. These weren’t easy questions to answer, so I didn’t know what to tell her. I rubbed my hand down my face as I tried to think of what to say to her. There was nothing that I could say that would ease her mind. Except for that last comment. Where the fuck did that come from?

I turned my head to look at her. “First and foremost, you are not a booty call and don’t ever think that I would think that. As for the questions,” I let out a sigh, “I don’t know how to answer them. I don’t know how long this is going to take. I don’t like this situation any more than you do, but it’s the safest thing to do right now. Especially if I succeed in doing what Kevin needs me to do and I end up getting away with it, or worse, getting caught. As of right now, you are my weakness, beautiful. If they knew you moved here and that I was seeing you again, then they’d use you against me. Just like they did before.”

She flinched and closed her eyes. I could only imagine she was thinking about what had happened before.

“I get it.” She looked at me with sad eyes. “I told you it would sound stupid. I just … I’d say I want a normal relationship, but I know I can’t have that with you. Even without all the other stuff, you still have your career. But we could make it work. I want to make it work.”

I leaned back on the couch and pulled her into my lap. “We will make it work.” I pressed my forehead to hers.
I’m not going anywhere.”

I slid my fingers into her hair and brought her mouth down to mine. I wanted to pick her up, bring her back into her room, and toss her on the bed. I could feel the blood flowing south, but I didn’t want her to think that’s what I came here for.

I pulled away from the kiss just as my phone started to vibrate in my pocket.

Scarlett got up from my lap and sat back down next to me as I dug through my pocket and pulled out my phone. It was Paul.

I let out a sigh and looked at her. “I’ve got to take this,” I said as I answered the call. “Hello.”

“Yeah, you need to meet me down at Joe’s tattoo shop. We’ve got some field work to do tonight.”

  Fuck. “When?”

  “Now.”

  “Now?”

  “Yeah, now, what the fuck?”

I swear this fucker was going to be introduced to my fist very soon. “I’ll be there in twenty.”

“Make it fifteen. We’ve got somewhere we need to be.”

I ended the call and hung my head. His call ruined my fucking night. I didn’t know what the hell he had planned, but it took me away from what I’d rather be doing.

I looked over at Scarlett as she studied me. “Are you leaving?”

“Unfortunately, yes,” I huffed. “That was Paul. I have to go meet him. I’ll call you tomorrow.” I pulled her to me and captured her lips one last time before I left. Just the feel of her lips on mine were enough to weaken my now sour mood. “Remember what I said. We will make it work. So don’t think otherwise.”

She nodded her head and followed me to the door, giving me one more kiss before I left. She looked upset that I was leaving and I wasn’t too thrilled about it either.

Ten minutes later, I was at Joe’s, standing in the shop, waiting for Paul to come out from the back. It was a nice tattoo shop. They had a seating area with black leather couches and a stack of binders full of tattoo and piercing pictures. There was even a TV and some gaming consoles. Further back, past the reception desk, there were four separate rooms; one for each tattoo artist. It was decorated in greys, blacks, and reds; it was definitely one of the nicest tattoo shops I had ever seen.
