Rapid Pulse: A Limited Edition Spicy Romance Collection Page 99

by Gina Kincade

"Sorry, Kane. With Logan not here, I am getting stretched pretty thin," Shawn Thames, Kane's polar bear beta and best friend, says.

Kane shakes himself out of his thoughts, and actually takes a closer look at his friend. Shawn, whose intense blue eyes normally have a twinkle in them. Like he has a secret that you must know. There is no twinkle now. His eyes are dull, he has bags under them, and it looks like he hasn't had a solid sleep or meal in a while. With how busy they have been with all the little attacks, none of them have been taking good care of themselves.

With an ache in the back of his throat and a pain in his chest, Kane realizes he is doing a shitty job as alpha lately. Thinking through his options, with his wolf finally agreeing, he says, "Don't worry about it, Shawn. Logan will hopefully be back soon."

Before he can finish, Shawn jumps in. "Have you heard from him?"

Worry creases his brow. Kane knows Shawn is trying to appear uninterested, but he can feel his emotions and they are jumping around.

"Not yet," Kane says, his eyes glowing with the power of his wolf. "Don't worry, though. You won't be stuck doing this forever."

With a slight twist of his lips, Shawn grins. "I know. Thanks for coming to help me out this afternoon, Kane. I appreciate it."

With a nod, Kane accepts his thanks, not wanting to delve too deep in to what Shawn's thoughts are. As Shawn turns to go, Kane calls out, "Hey, Shawn. Take the night off. Zoey made dinner. Eat and go to bed. That is an order."

Shawn turns around and looks to his best friend. "Yes, sir." With a fake solute and a smile stretching across his face, he turns to go while a little trail of laughter floats and reaches Kane's ears. Smiling, his is happy his beta is in a good mood and he sees some of the twinkle return to his eyes.

Gazing around the clearing, Kane spots some blood in the green grass. The smile now gone from his face, he realizes that it isn't fresh. Taking a deep breath, he lets his wolf figure out the scent.

"Damn it. You sure?" His wolf's answering growl is all he hears. "I get it. So this isn't the first time Shawn has been attacked like this."

Feeling his wolf's acknowledgment, they both vow to end this before his loved ones continue to get hurt. Pulling his shoulders back, he brings his wolf forward to howl, letting any wolves that are near know that this is his territory.

After sending a quick message to his pack to take the night off, he heads in to town to take over from Anthony at the bar so he can head out and have some time to relax.

With images in his mind of him running, knowing his wolf wants to run, he lets go and his wolf comes forward. A huge white wolf with blue eyes. Shaking off the shreds of clothing, he takes off in to the woods, scenting the prey that will have to wait to be caught another time.

First, he has to take care of his pack, but finding his mate may be the best option for them.

  Dez

Following the way her animals guide her, driving farther in to the trees, the nature envelops her. Driving in a serene bubble, Dez gazes around. The exact same view her animals gave her passes along. How did you guys know about this place? We have never been here before. I’m sure I would remember this.

A purring echoes across her mind, her animals loving the area just as much as she. A distant rumble of a truck breaks the serene bubble. In the distance, a light glow is appearing, breaking up the darkness of the late evening.

Up ahead, the town comes in to view. It is a nice town. Shops in pale pastel pink, yellow, or white dot the road. Nothing is too flashy, yet nothing looks like it is falling apart either. It reminds her of a movie or something, where everyone knows everyone, people are friendly, and your neighbors care. Still driving along, Dez can smell the area has shifters, but her animals still have no care so she pulls in the gravel drive of what appears to be the only thing still open. The bar.

Walking through the door, Dez's mouth drops open. Closing it rapidly as to not draw attention to herself, she gives a subtle peek around the bar. Everything about this bar seems normal—wooden stools up against a brass foot rail at a high counter, circular wooden tables throughout the bar, pool tables in the far corner, and an area that is a dance floor. None of that is what startled her. Throughout the room is little packets—some sitting along the beams across the roof of the place, some behind the bar, two right beside the door as she walked in. They are everywhere. No way! A scent secret bar.

Dez has heard of scent secret bars. It’s a place she always wanted to try, just to meet others without them scenting her, or trying to anyway. She isn't sure what is actually in the bags, but it is a potpourri type mix that makes heightened senses of smell essentially void.

Walking to the bar, the chatter and laughter of people and the music playing in the background drones on as she tries to scent those around her. Nothing. A small smile graces her lips, but she keeps her head down as she hops on to the stool, her hood drawn over her head. No matter how hard she tries, attention is always thrown at her.

Turning her head slightly, she glances at the other ladies at the bar. All thin, very pretty, wearing short skirts and crop tops. Her tiger growls slightly at the other girls, but it confuses her. Why are you growling? I mean, sure, I am jealous I have to hide, but to growl is a little much. Her tiger just huffs, plods away and sits, her tail flicking back and forth.

Shaking her head at herself, she absently taps her nails on the bar top, waiting for a drink. Without having to ask or look up, a beer is placed in front of her. Grabbing the cold glass, she takes a quick sip while always looking down and away. The bitter beer glides down her throat effortlessly. Exactly what she was look for. Dez raises her glass slightly and nods in the direction of the bartender.

She can feel his eyes on her. Not wanting any attention, she purposefully doesn’t engage in eye contact very often, but ignoring usually does more harm than good, and she doesn’t want to draw more eyes than necessary.

"Hey, darling. Anything else I can get for ya?" his voice, deep and sexy, asks.

The sound of a glass being rubbed is the only sound she tries to focus on. Her animals don’t take the hint. His voice is like water to those dehydrated animals, so determined they are to actually see the man behind a voice that makes them want to roll over and show him their bellies. What is wrong with you two?

"Nah. I'm good. Thanks." Just as she finishes talking, her stomach growls, reminding her why she came this way in the first place, and to prove she is a liar.

Chuckling, he says, "Mhmm. Food it is."

She can hear the grin in his voice, causing her body temperature to rise. Quickly, she knocks back her beer, ready to head out.

Just as she is about to stand up from the hard surface, a large basket of wings and fries get set in front of her. Without even thinking about, it she scarfs it down, her animals helping her demolish it all. Wiping her face, another beer appears in front of her.

Grabbing the cup again, this time she lifts her head, fully aware he will not see her hair nor her real eyes. Just the brown lenses of her contacts. She sends a nod and real smile in his direction. "Thank you."

  Kane

Kane has been working for a few hours already, fully aware that an attack could happen at any time. Still, he puts on a smile and greets all customers the same, whether they were shifter or human.

As soon as she sat at his bar, though, his wolf was intrigued. Here is a woman who is around five-foot-eight-inches tall, and yet, she is hiding. He can see it in her posture. If her black and leather outfit doesn’t intimidate you, her overall vibe is pretty noticeable.

Not one to ever follow someone else's lead, he dives right in, trying to get her to look at him. Kane and his wolf both have to see what she is hiding. Her voice alone is like silk sliding across his skin.

Grabbing the food for her—admittedly another table's order—when he saw her getting up may not have been the best move ever as a business owner, but she sure seemed pleased to be eating.

  Has she not eaten today?

&nb
sp; Dropping another beer off in front of her, Kane expects the same type of reply as last time. He grabs the bar cloth and sees her look up while she says thank you. Their eyes meet and it is like a shock runs through his system alighting every nerve in his body. His eyes dilate, and he can tell his wolf has come forward, wanting to see this woman that has captivated him so.

Palms sweating and heart racing, he pushes his wolf back. He noticed she had no glow to her eyes. Shifters’ eyes will glow a minuscule amount to identify each other. Hers did no such thing. Her eyes are beautiful, though, even if they don’t seem to suit her. Dark mocha brown against her light colored skin.

Knowing she isn't a shifter proves to not be an issue for his wolf. His wolf is showing him images that make his pulse sky rocket, and he knows if she is a shifter she will scent the need pouring off him.

Whatever is causing his wolf to act this way, he has no idea. Adjusting his growing cock in his pants as subtly as he can, he replies, "You are very welcome. I'm Kane. If you need anything just holler."

  "Thanks, Kane," she says.

With how his wolf is pacing, it is giving Kane a headache. Pushing his wolf back, and pushing the mysterious bar woman out of the way, he gets back to work. Maybe if I stay distracted, she won’t be a temptation and she will leave.

His wolf, always wanting the final say, just growls and huffs at him before going off to sit, his tail thumping. Shaking his head, he wanders off to the group of girls at the end of the bar.

  Dez

Desiree couldn't believe the hunk of man standing behind the bar. Not only is he muscular, everywhere, but his height allows her more of him to gaze at. Watching as he readjusts, himself she feels her own panties get wet. Her core clenching with need. His black hair, shaggier on top, off sets his dark eyebrows and some of the most mesmerizing blue eyes she has ever seen. Even if his wolf didn't come forward, they were the color of a spring river hurrying to the ocean—bright with swirls of lighter and darker shades mixed in. His angular jaw and Prince Charming smile sets butterflies off in her stomach.

Going from town to town has never left Dez with many opportunities to have relationships, but fucking is one way she burns off her excess energy. Especially since her animals never get to run anymore.

Sitting on the bar stool, running her finger across the top of the glass, Dez thinks back to the last time she had sex. Eyebrows drawn together, lips pursed, she hears her animals guffaw. No way. It hasn't been that long.

Thinking again, she pauses. It has been almost a year. No wonder why you guys have been so antsy.

  Think we can convince him?

Their vocal agreement echoes in her head, their excitement contagious. Laughing out loud, Dez slaps a hand over her mouth to not let any more out. Kane looks over, his eyes zeroing in on her mouth, no longer covered by her hand. His eyes glance up to meet hers. She bites her lip, dragging her teeth across the supple skin.

She hears his wolf growl. Having two animals definitely comes in handy for times like these. Double the senses is fantastic. Pretending to not hear it or smell the need and want pouring off him, she glances at his throat, seeing him repeatedly swallowing.

The girls at the end of the bar have been calling him over. As he moves closer to her, their eyes following the other, both overflowing with desire, she says, "Kane, the girls over there have been calling you."

She throws a smirk in his direction. A full growl comes from his chest. Whether that is him or his wolf, though, she isn't sure.

Watching him with the girls doesn't cause her to be jealous. If anything, the thought of making them watch does wonderful things to her body. Her wolf is all for a public fuck. Her tiger, on the other hand, would rather it be more secret. Smirking at their disagreement, she watches as Kane no longer has his carefree attitude. Answers are curt, his knuckles are white as they are grabbing at the counter tops, and cups are placed down roughly on the bar surface.

She knows he can smell her want and need, so she finishes her beer, knowing that he will be busy for a few minutes with a few more people now waiting for their drinks at the bar.

Walking away from the bar, she can feel his eyes on her. She adds a little extra sway in her step, hoping he will come join her. People now with some liquid courage occupy the dance floor, so she hops on and joins in. Swaying and moving; feeling the music through her. She knows if she takes off her jacket and sweater, she would be more attractive to look at, but she doesn't want the others to look at her. Just him.

  Kane

Kane can't keep his eyes off her. Since she has been on the dance floor, he has broken three glasses from his wolf being too close to the surface.

Raining him back, Kane manages to serve all his customers with some sort of smile or grimace on his face. It is hard to be sure when his wolf keeps growling and he tries to constantly keep it back as to not scare his human customers.

Glancing up, he sees a male come up behind his woman. His heart starts beating fast. Too fast. His fingers shift, so he keeps them below the counter. Turning around, he keeps his hands hidden and counts to ten. Too close.

Taking a deep breath, he looks to the dance floor, but she isn't there. His wolf is panicking, causing him to sweat and start pacing. He sees two members of his pack enter. Trevor Philips and Aria Battle. Blocking his emotions so his pack mates don't pick up on them, he glances around again, still not seeing her.

"Hey, boss," Trevor says, coming up behind him.

Kane jumps, his heart in his throat, and looks at Trevor with his raised eyebrow. Please don't ask questions. Please.

Trevor shrugs and continues before Kane can even think to say anything. "I know you said take the night off, but I’d rather work if that is cool. Aria would rather hang here than at the house by herself. Everyone is sleeping. That was cool of you, by the way. We all appreciate it."

With a nod, Kane clasps Trevor's shoulder. "Thank you. You are very welcome. Feel free to close early if you want."

Walking away, heart heavy that he missed his chance with the woman, he smiles as he hears Trevor chatting up the girls at the end of the bar.

"So that is why he wanted to work."

Kane smirks and walks in to the hall, heading to his office. Abruptly, he is yanked in to an empty storage closet. Besides a couple old boxes sitting in the corner, nothing is ever kept in here.

Snarling, he cuts off abruptly when he realizes who is standing there in the dark, leaning against the wall.

"About time you showed up. I was about to get myself off and leave."

Stepping up closer, he stops and takes in a deep breath. She wants him. Just as much as he wants her. "I was always taught to never leave a lady waiting." Bringing his wolf's vision forward, he sees her smile. A smile that lights up everything around her. Glancing down, he notices she already opened her jacket to reveal her boobs, took off her pants, yet left her hood on. Not able to focus on the last part too long with a naked woman in front of him, he growls, "Maybe I should apologize."

Without waiting for a reply, he steps forward, dominating her mouth with his. He breathes in her scent, and she does the same to him. She groans, the sound vibrating through him, going straight to his dick.

Not wasting any time, she kneels and pulls him out of his pants, his dick hard and thick in her warm hand. She gazes up at him, her mouth open, waiting. Then with a quirk to her lips, she puts all of him in to her mouth, so teasing, no playing, nothing.

  "Fuck," he groans.

  "Mmm."

The sound of her voice goes straight to his balls.

"Nope. No way I am not coming in your pussy. Against the wall." Staring intently, he catches the slight hitch in her breath, the shiver that runs through her body, and the desire that is shining from her eyes. "Ah. You like that idea, don't you?"

Her wide eyes stare at him while she nods.

"I need words, darling." His tone is gruff, his wolf close to the surface.

"Yes. I like that. Fuck me," she says, her husky vo
ice causing him to loosen his restraint. Kicking off his pants, he then glides up to her, her eyes tacking his every movement. He and his wolf are in agreement. This woman is fucking hot.

Kissing her again, Kane picks her up, wrapping her legs around his waist, his cock poised at her entrance. Before he can do anything, she drops down, impaling herself. They both pause, the moment too much.

He pushes her against the wall, fucking her. "Fuck. Your pussy is so tight," he growls, pushing deeper. As deep as he can possibly go.

"Yes. Fuck. Harder." Her cries spur him on. He fucks her harder still, both him and his wolf in agreement to do whatever she asks.

"Ahh..." Her strangled cry is all the warning he gets before she comes, hard. He continues pumping, even harder, positive people in the bar can hear them.

  "Come on, beautiful. One more."

Using an alpha command seems to do the trick. Pounding in to her, she comes again screaming in to his mouth. Her orgasm triggers his, burst after burst of semen leaving him. Each time, she shivers.

They stay that way for a little while, him rubbing her back and her burying her head in to his neck like a cat.

"Alright, beautiful. I will go grab us a quick drink and a cloth so we can clean you up." She pulls back to look at him, and a shadow passes across her eyes so fast he almost misses it. "You okay? I didn't hurt you, did I?"

Her musical laughs echo around the empty room. "Don't worry. You definitely didn't hurt me," she says, still smiling. Leaning forward, she gives him a kiss. A kiss full of so much meaning, yet he isn't sure what.

"I'll be right back. I promise."

  "I'll be waiting."

Kane leaves the room, grinning from ear to ear. He can't get over how perfect that was. No bull shit. No fake words. Looking at his wolf, he sees him lounging, telling him to hurry to get back to his woman. Don't get any ideas. You know a human would not fill the requirement.
